“Looks like a bug that’s running away with salmon egg, and it pisses the salmon off” 😂😂 I like it.
Great video thanks
Good lure choice but I would like to add one more. The Mepps Aglia original with the silver blade and the red/yellow body in #5. I have caught more coho on that lure than any other lure I've tried. Also, I discovered a technique that worked really well for me last year in Alaska. Cast upstream and then reel the lure quickly downstream. Right after the lure passes your position turn your rod tip back upstream and slow your retrieve so that the lure swings in a big arch in the river. I caught many fish last year using this technique and in many cases it was the only thing that got them to bite.

This is good intel for the Coho Secret-Techniques video....Sounds like you had a great time up there. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience!
Rooster tails and twitching jigs have been good to me. A lot of people around here run those blue fox spinners, but I never have any luck with them.

Yeah I’ve never caught anything on the Blue Foxes haha. They work for other people though…I guess those skirted spinners work great which is pretty much just a plastic rooster tail. I’ll have to order up some roosters for next season.

Thank you so much for actually listing size/weights! I appreciate the thoroughness on the descriptions all around. The number of guide video's that just say "I'm using a Mepp's" with no mention of color, size, model, etc. is infuriating. I've only ever fished Atlantic salmon, down rigging in a stocked lake with the trusty dare devil spoons in red/white and the salmon egg print or the chartreuse Syclops , so I'm hoping your tips help when I actually get on that Alaska trip.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving feedback. Dare devil spoons are great, we used them on Steelhead growing up. Good luck on that Alaska trip!
hello my best friend, greetings to one hobby, this is very helpful and very useful for fishing hobbyists, always success👍👍👍

Yeah, Mepp's flying C's up in Alaska are coho crushers. The 5/8oz pink silver blade #1, then the fire tiger, followed by the chartreuse silver blade. Every few years or so the orange silver blade would produce, don't know why, but nobody in our group would catch any on orange on those off years.
The bear: hey hows it going catching anything? Them: hey bear hey bear. Bear: Ok then i guess so? Cya.
North Fork Lures are hands down the best lure for Coho!
I see that you use a lot of spinners. I fish lake Michigan here in northwest Indiana, and spoons have worked the best for me. Top 3 colors were orange and brass, chartreuse and brass, and hammered nickel and blue. Little Cleos and K.O. Wobbers were the top 2 brands. 2/3 and 3/5 were the best weights..
Thanks for the great recommendations. I’ll be taking this gear to Alaska soon. Excited to try it out. Do you put scent on your blades?
Steel ees are by far the no. 1 choice for me. They always out fish blue foxes or any other lure I have used on coho. I call them coho killers.
Nice video, my personal favorite is the Blue Fox Vibrax, I caught a ton of Cohos this year in Alaska with them. I had Mepps spinners too but I couldn't get them to spin as consistently and I didn't have as much luck with them. I've never been able to catch a Coho with a spoon before so I think spinners are probably better.

Blue Fox lures are total crap and foreign made. Try a North Fork lures American Made and hands down the best lure on the market!
I live in Alaska and pretty much live on the Lower Kenai all late summer. Pixee 1/4-1/2 oz depending of current and Panther Martin Willow Strike on Sampo black swivels are KILLER and I would say a must try for Silvers.

@@CastFromTheHip When I lived in Oregon I had some in my box and thought I would give them a try. They haven't let me down and it's my go to with a red bead on top. Oh, forgot to mention Willow Strike fly, gold.

I live here in Alaska, screw that combat road system of the Kenai, I will take Kodiak island or Cordova, Yakutat anyday! Plus those places have the largest average size silvers on earth, and no crowds!
Present, friends, greetings hobby fishing mania. The river is great. Nice vidio. Always good. Dont forget to stop by for coffee
Mepps are great lures

They’re my favorite.
Great list, but you forgot to mention the Super Duper which is the #1 salmon and trout catching lure when it comes to spoon/spinner type lures.
Try Alaska, bring extra shorts! Vibrax size # 4 or 5! Fishing with Kodiak brown bears! Priceless!
Awesome, to the point video. Have any that are specific for beginnings... like "HOW to Coho Set Up: Rod, Reel, line, ...etc.." :) Just curious.

I should make a video...but a basic starter rig would be 15lb monofilament line on the spool of a 3500 to 4500 size reel. Run the line through a 7ft medium action spinning rod and tie the line off to a small metal swivel. The metal swivel will make lures swaps quick and easy and prevent line twist due to a spinning lure in the water. Thanks for stopping by!
caught my first coho last year on a blue box spinner. Do you put any scent on your lures. Also if you do, which ones and how do you clean the scent off
Is it you on the mepps catalog front cover? Lol

Haha nah, I did submit a picture to them though while making this video so we’ll see if I make the next catalog….
I have plenty of lures that have never caught fish. My local academy has too many options to choose from.

what thickness of fluorocarbon do you use for coho salmon?
@CastFromTheHip

You can use 12 or 15lb. They don't chew up line like other fish.
I’m new to this, what colours should I use at night??
@jaylou9598

At night, we used a glow in the dark spoon or rat-l-trap. Just hit em with your cell phone flashlight. Little Cleo and Krokodile we the brand of spoons..usually use 2/3 or 3/5 weight.
Crocs and crocodile half Oz sise hammered brass or copper surprised you didn't mention them .
