Coffee, pastries, and street smarts | Showing a filmmaker around the UWS on skates
@kriswarwick hit me up on Instagram earlier this summer and said he wanted to film me skating in New York City. I told him yes, but secretly I wanted a chance to hold some very expensive camera gear while wearing my rollerblades. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to do that in this video.

Join me as I grab a coffee and waffle from my go-to coffee shop, cruise around the Upper West Side, try to articulate some of my calculus in navigating traffic on the hectic streets, and even sneak in a few lines at the skatepark.
Few more notes:
I believe this was shot on some kind of cinematic Sony camera in LOG, all shots are handheld so they have some character - no gimbal.
I'm just learning how to edit and have zero clue how to color correct, so I just used a LUT. It's probably a bit off.

Yeah I don't imagine the cartels would approve of a 360 selfie stick.
Living in Texas, I can't skate without being completely soaked in sweat, which limits how comfortable I am commuting to any shops or anything. The other day, after a session, I had a steady stream of sweat coming from my forehead and I was able to wring out my t-shirt. In a two-hour session I think I sweat out at least two liters of water.
I love that your videos are uploaded on tuesdays 🥰 it‘s always a motivation for me to skate at the TNS in Frankfurt ❤️

when Kris would stop or get stuck it was a cool illustration of the level of understanding in navigating traffic in the worst city in the world. Very cool perspective to change it up from the usual heart-pounding 360 sweaty palm fest, for me.... 😆

There is a lot of order on that seemingly "hectic" traffic, if you really want to experience something nearly impossible to understand, drive any vehicle in Hanoi, Vietnam.

I enjoyed hearing the explanations. I do think stabilization on the camera would have been nice. A little too shaky for me.

I agree with you. This was filmed with the intention of using it in a mini doc, so handheld was the preferred choice 🙌🏻
Flowing with traffic and obstacles is true bird brain physics. Love it!
@thestutteringskater can you recommend some wheels and bearings? I just got a new pair of blades but i need some wheels and bearings but im not sure what is good Dont wanna waste money ya know

I love your videos, BUT please shave a few dB's off your music tracks so that the volume of the speech / music parts are more normalized :) I always have to turn down the volume on the music parts of your videos. Great music choices though :) keep up the great work!

Thank you for the feedback, this one was tricky because the Mic used picked up a lot and I'm still trying to navigate that stuff. Will be better about it going forward!

Perhaps the skate park wasn't the right choice as a location, it doesn't fit right with the music and moves.
You can see the warp stabilizer on the shots you took, takes a bit of practice to hold steady the camera. The movement might seem insignificant in your hand depending on the lens, one moment you are shooting your subject, the next you are filming what is happening in another dimension. Good first try keep it up.
