I also really like how this episode started by quickly establishing that the Dreadnoks weren’t to be fucked around with, Ripper shooting a guy in the stomach just to get the other Dreadnoks attention, and yet by the end of the issue they've met their match and been completely outclassed. And i really like the relationship with Nemesis Enforcer, who has a duty to protect him, but by this point clearly hates him. "Wherever you are Commander I hope you are in pain" is ice cold hate.

I liked that, too. Between issue two and this one, they really set up the Dreadnoks as a formidable gang of thugs, and then they show how Cobra Commander is above them on the food chain. And yeah, I'm digging the stuff with Nemesis Enforcer as well. Their antagonistic relationship is great, and the Enforcer is just this unstoppable force. Love it! And it makes me want to see Nemesis Enforcer take on a Transformer...

Yeah, this was a fun one to read. That smiley face on CC is an image that’ll stick with me for a while

I got a feeling that with him looking for Energon, he'll ultimately find it and try to stock it all up which leads to the Decepticons to tracking him down and finding Megatron or more likely, Megatron being fueled up again by the Energon for a team up with Cobra Commander.

Dude, as much as I wanna see that, he was abusing Megatron in Cobra-la, and something tells me when he gets free Megatron is gonna want some serious payback. Either way, how great has the Energon Universe been? Everyone I know who's reading it is talking about it non-stop. :)

I'm definitely enjoying it! I think you raise a good point though - even if there is some kind of mutual alliance, it seems really likely that Megatron's going to want payback eventually.

the smile done on Cobra Commander visor reminds me of the 2012 film Smiley. I like to think that Cobra commander was augmented by the life saving surgery in the first issues to withstand intended pain/trauma as apart of his mission. Kinda interesting a bunch of low lives like the Dreadnoks were able to properly take advantage of Energon beef M.A.R.S., U.S. Government and everybody else. The Dreadnoks base themselves right next to a natural occurring well of the stuff but with few exception non of them have advances scientific know to engineer a whole new type of fuel. Cobra Commander made a good first showing of the "leadership" skills he will no doubt put to use in running Cobra

I think you're right - we're definitely getting a sense for how this guy is going to lead Cobra and why he's capable. And yeah, it is interesting that the Dreadnoks seem to have gotten to the Energon first, considering the other interested parties will no doubt make better use of it once they get ahold of it. CC being augmented is a pretty solid theory...one that I never considered! It could have specifically been the surgery like you said, or it could have also just been Cobra-La science at work. Maybe he was modified/enhanced when Golobulus took him in? Whatever the case, it's an interesting thought! Thanks. Lastly, good catch on Smiley. I wasn't familiar with the movie until you mentioned it, but the style of the face does look really similar!

Thought this was a fun issue, the smile on the helmet and the nemesis enforcer splash reveal were the highlights for me. I’m curious to see what sort of climax this takes in the next two issues.

Yeah, I'm very curious how it'll shape up and whether or not Megatron's going to be part of it...

Loved it. I have no idea how G.I. Joe are even gonna be able to deal with this guy, he's on another level of sadism and manipulation. And when the crossover becomes more explicit, this Cobra Commander feels like he could be the first human opponent, maybe in the entirety of Transformers media, who would pose a real threat to them.

Yeah, this issue has me very excited to see where they're taking the character and how he's going to be interacting with G.I. Joe and the Transformers! They're setting him up as a serious threat...give him an army and Energon, and I think you're right - he'll be giving his opponents a run for their money.

Megatron is my favorite villain in the Energon Universe so far - he did the same thing to the Commander that the Commander did o the Dreadnoks.

@@Moonbase3 Now, to expand on why Megatrion, who's been in maybe 5 panels total so far in the Energon Universe, is because he's driving many of the events with his absence. Starscream's excesses, Cobra Commander's quest - even Duke's pursuit could (arguably) only happen with Megatron not being around. When he gets out of Cobra-La, it's going to be glorious. he could very well be the end of Cobra-La were he whole, which is likely why the story has him with no arms.

Cobra is is crazy good, i luv him.

I agree, before this series, I had no interest in GI Joe much less Cobra Commander but this series makes him so awesome. I have to say my favorite characters in the Energon Universe so far are Optimus, Cobra Commander, and Solila. It's a slow burn but it's cooking so damn good.

That's a good list! That might actually be what mine would look like as well, though I might add Carly. And even though we just saw him for the first time, I think Proximus has the potential to make the list...but we'll see.

I find it amusing that in the letters pages, they basically admitted they never had any intention of making the readers think that CC's mysterious bodyguard was Robert "Grunt" Graves. Go figure huh? Anyway, not much I can say here. This issue was pretty straightforward. Going back to that concern I had voiced back in Transformers Number 5, I hope all the named Dreadnoks survive this.

Yeah, that surprised me about how they really didn't anticipate that people would think that! And like I said - I'd be surprised if they killed the named Dreadnoks so early...but this *is* the Energon Universe we're talking about here, so who knows... Like you, though, I hope they survive.

Just read this today. Skybounds transformers and G.i. Joe titles are just what the franchises needed. It feels so much like the original material from the 80s but it's matured like fine wine. I'm all in for this ride. I have a feeling Megatron actually respects Cobra Commander in a way and once he has enough energon in Cobrala he will be able to regenerate himself and possibly work with Cobra Commander. Alternatively he may show Cobrala why trying to imprison the true leader if the Decepticons is basically you signing your own death warrant.

Or both. I agree, I think Megatron will end up with some respect for Cobra Commander and maybe work with him towards a common goal...but that doesn't mean he won't try to squish CC and/or burn Cobra-La to the ground eventually! I'm excited to see which way they go here.

@Moonbase3 So far so good. I grew up with Gi-Joe loved the image, Idw & DDP comic runs. Firefly, Storm Shadow, NightCreepers & Quick Kick are my favorites.

Yesterday i literally finished rereading through what we have of the transformers comic so far (transformers issue six was so good dude) when i found out about void rivals, then after reading all of what we have so far of void rivals i went to duke and then i went to cobra commander, dude these comics are so good- ive been into transformers comics before but this is the first one ive genuinely kept up to date on, all the others were either already finished or had so much to read through i couldnt bother. Safe to say i had a lot of fun binging all of the energon universe yesterday 😅

I think it would be really cool if skybound established cobra-la is responsible for the existence of beastformers. Maybe take some cues from the pack-in comics that came with the early beast wars figures and lean into the cyberpunk nature of biomechanical robot beasts. I mean the fact that megatron's earliest beast mode was an aligator, it seems perfect for everything skybound is working towards here. They could even bring in those early beast wars figures as new characters in this continuity. "Megaligator-tron" could be set up as some kind of bastard clone of the real deal megatron, the bat version of optimus primal could be created by the Joes in response. Just thinking out loud.

@@Moonbase3 Doomsday Clock by Geoff Johns. Basically, in 1992 America and Russia start a nuclear war after finding out the psychic squid attack from 1985 was a false flag. Right before New York gets destroyed, Ozymandias, some guy claiming to be Rorschach and the Mime and the Marionette (a husband and wife crime duo from the Watchmen universe) travel to the DC universe in a modified Owl Ship to search for Dr. Manhattan. People either love or hate this book.

Basically Cobra Commander in this issue “Thank you sir, may I have some more.” The fact this comic went out of the way to highlight CC as an inhuman creature, despite being one of the only human of Cobra-La is peak irony.

You know what would be messed up is if Nemesis Enforcer did kill all the Dreadnoks, but Cobra-La has resurrection technology and keeps bringing them back (with intact memories of their deaths) as a form of punishment for the Commander's torture.

Each title is relatively self-contained, but they do connect in certain ways. They're all part of a shared universe, so it seems likely that they'll start to crossover to a greater degree the further into it we get.

If I hade to guess, it must take a long time for Energon to take effect on biological organism, across generations. The Dreadnoks only just found it so they safe from possible Energon mutations...but not safe from Nemesis Enforcer.
