Coast. Surfskating Vancouver Island.
Спорт
What if there was a place that was rich in history, even richer in beauty, and richest in skate spots for a creative minded surfskater? Welcome to Vancouver Island and the Greater Victoria metropolitan area. Where mountains meet the sea, home of the Coast Salish peoples, and now home to some epic skate parks.
Since everyone always asks about my setups on these destination films, I decided to introduce my gear up front. Go to 0:56 to skip right to the riding.
Thank you to Whitetail Skateboards, Qwiktruks, Solride, and Surfskate Love for the gear that made this riding possible.

Thanks for watching.

These lands have existed under the stewardship of the Lekwungen People for many thousands of years. I acknowledge with respect the beautiful unceded and traditional territories of the Lekwungen People, who are now known as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. Please rest assured that although I skated hard to the best of my abilities, I left all the spots cleaner than they were when I arrived.

Nice video Mark showing a range of tricks possible when combining the Whitetail with a good dose of creativity! Like the off-road in particular. Keep on pushing it!!!!
Great video The rainbow pipe at 1:40 is a yummy concrete wave
Thanks for another wonderful video!!
Love it, as always, Mark. And I sure hope you can find a way to support your channel because the surfskate world needs you. ❤️👊

Long Island, Carver, Solride, even to a small extent YOW are starting to sneak in some of my style riding to their feeds. Younger, better looking, and more skilled riders will carry the torch so I can stop beating up my aging body to push the boundaries. The true surfskate OGs will remember me as an asterisk in the history of surfskate progression. Those who want a headstart can catch me soon with tutorials and other content on Patreon.
Truly beautiful and creative angles / cuts / edit!
The jitters of a second cup of Matcha was all worth it, or maybe it’s the high of the movie ; I rarely felt as many different emotions in a 5 minutes skate film! The richness of landscapes and variety of skills you presented is just out of this world ! The off-road shots on the mountain trails were delicious. Thanks for skateboarding outside the box and showing us a different perspective on what’s possible.
Great work man
Awesome!

Hahah I recognize and share your stoke Mark (Nelson) Mark (Landlockedsurfer) blows my mind on a regular basis, and this movie isn’t an exception. Now I’m wondering, how far can this guy push the limits of surfskating? It’s just insane

At first I threw it in the timeline as a joke and then instantly I was like "whoa this actually works" and it stuck even after I tried a few other options.
Rock on man. I found surfskate Love 70 mm 81 a wheel to be the bomb for my Urban Street surfskate adventures. It handled the transitions of all the various pavements quite well. Almost the exact same setup I want to try with the SolRide system, I want the green Dragons though, and I thought maybe the Andy Anderson egg-shaped Flight Deck.

That sounds like a great setup - should be super light for a surfskate.
Jay the Surfskater 3 days ago Thanks so much Mark for visiting Victoria located in Beautiful British Columbia and acknowledging our Indigenous Peoples and First Nations, Tribes and Lands...now you know why it's Called "Beautiful British Columbia". You sure picked some nice spots to show-off even though you were only on Vancouver Island which has very few skateparks compared to the mainland [Vancouver] which has about 20 all within a 40 minute drive from each other. The quick change truck bracket worked great for you on this trip switching from different terrains and styles and made optimizing your ride on the fly so much easier. Great style as always and you sure left your signature on all the spots you skated. All I can say is "Booyaka Booyaka" - "Booyaka Booyaka"
Awesome, the opening trick and the closing trick are truly next level. 🤘

Thanks! Yeah those plus the bluntslides are 3 things I haven't seen done on surfskates before but man did they feel good. Thanks for watching!

@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer yep, the blunt was also amazing. I’ve never even attempted to try one on a regular skateboard, let alone on a surfskate…
You’re so cool 🫡

@@whitetailskateboards Yes, I really enjoy Marks style for Movie Making and Story Telling...He's very captivating and unique with a pioneering spirit. I can envision Mark doing a two-hour special one day on Surf Skating in Canada. What a shame we won't be seeing much of him in 2023. I'll be back riding and filming soon in the next couple weeks, I know you will too. So, I guess you and I are the only other two Canadians left to promote Canada, so 2023 here we come !!
You need to buy a mountainbike for that off-road stuff 😁

This trail said no bikes - I found a loophole! Board was easier to bring on the plane too!
Hella sweet video Mark, smooth, flowy & technical. Not sure, seems like you're filming while riding which is sick. I got the Solride trucks recently, like how low & light they are, just have to test drive it outdoors when it is nicer. Any plans on a surfskate trip to TO this summer?

Yep, entirely self filmed as I was traveling solo for work! I'll also be in Toronto for work around October if not sooner and a surfskate always comes along.

@@MarktheLandlockedSurfer Props for filming while riding, that's impressive camera work. I'll be in TO till Sept. it'll be nice if I can film you in the 416.
Were you were able to get you board back? The IG story made it look REALLY far out of reach.

It was awkward but I managed to climb down and my ape arms let me reach it without having to lay in the water
