As soon as you spend about one week with a car with a fridge you won't want to live without it. I used to think like Brian about that until I bought a Land Cruiser Prado that comes with one, and I can tell you it's really cool that you can throw a soda, water, a chocolate bar and even some juice and keep it in there for a few days without having to take it out as soon as you get home, it keeps cool thru the night and in 15 minutes of driving you can cool down a beer to it's "drinkable" temperature (at least on this side of the globe).

I just love it when every once in a while a serious auto maker like Benz comes along and throws in everything they have and their unique selling point for this car is ... you should buy one just because you CAN. The hell with trunk practicality ... true the fridge eats up a lot of room in the trunk, however, it seems the guys at Cnet dont have a clue on how Maybach clients travel. There will probably be a convoy of Range Rovers following this car with all the luggage, admin staff, help staff and occasionally full security detail, so trunk space is never an issue. In fact most Maybach owners probably dont know what the inside of their trunk looks like. As a matter of fact they probably will never spend in the car more than 2 hours in a single trip, because any trip that requires more than 2 hours will be shortened using the private Jet ... One thing I think Cnet missed is the back seat techs ... like massage, seat temperature, ventilation, how many ways it moves, corner bracing where the whole seat tilts to maintain a normal resultant on its occupants during cornering and not disturb them ... so on and so forth. When it comes to Maybach, dont mention practicality ... if you want practical, get a Lexus. Also if you truly love the car, you will get your Engineering degree and you will know how to navigate all the options (or you will assign someone to do that for you), if you want simple, get a Rolls

I'm not sure you can list the BMW i series vehicles as compliance cars. First off the i8 is a PHEV not a full EV in any trim. The i3 is available as a full EV and was designed as a full EV from the ground up. Neither car is a warmed over version of anything else BMW makes. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV also falls into that category. Everything else on that list is unavailable in regions that don't have a ZEV mandate. (Aside from the Ford Focus Electric that's available in Chicago by special order only no test drives :) )

That fridge thing is awesome. So awesome, that I'm thinking of getting an aftermarket one, decent ones go for around $500. The one great thing my car has that Maybachs don't is space between the front console and the rear seat for things like fridges, trash cans, or cargo nets. I'll probably stuff it full of sushi just like the one in the video, but behind those sushi boxes there would be Coke cans, something you won't see in a Maybach. What can I say, I like Coke (no, not that Coke, I don't drive a Maybach you know), and last time I tried Champagne I didn't particularly care for it. The combination of fizziness and alcohol just seemed weird. I'm not particularly poor and I'm pretty satisfied, but yeah I'll probably never own a Maybach. Well actually maybe I will, the good news is its a German car, so in 5 years I'll be able to buy one for less than a used Kia. You know what they say about Mercedes, you know its out of oil when it stops leaking. Seriously, what happened to the Mercedes and BMW of 20 years ago that just worked and basically lasted forever? Well, this has been an interesting insomnia fueled incoherent rant.

cristiandemirel1918 Except for the dual-view screen and shaded sunroof (which BTW, should not be worth $5000), a lot of the features in this car can be found in others that are less than half the price. On top of that, such competing cars (such as the new Cadillac Escalade) can seat more, drive safely in harsh weather, and is easier on fuel consumption. Overall, I'd say the Merc is better, but not for the price.

Check out the EngineeringExplained review of it. I was impressed by how much Cadillac accomplished for the price point. Like I said, still not as nice as the Merc, but pretty damn close.

Peter Schmidt I really like the new Escalade! It's a class above, in terms of luxury, compared with the previous model, but let's not get carried away! They don't even address to the same market. I don't understand the negative parts of this review. It seemed to be expecting too much. I love my Mercedes automobiles but, then again, if I was looking for one with a driver i would have to think long and hard about choosing this over a Rolls Royce Phantom with an extended wheelbase. Still, the S600 Maybach is a lovely automobile.

bikeboy0012 And also I'd like to know if they're gonna build a straight S600 coupé? Such an exquisite design deserves a whisper quiet V12 without the gaudy kit and obtrusive sound on the S65 AMG.
