Hi, I have cml for the last 21 years. I have been prescribed with Glivex Imatinib for the last 19 years. The side effects of this medicine is limited to nausea, dry skin. For the last 2 years my bcr-abl is less than 1 or 0. Doctors are considering for stopping the medicine. I feel that my body has adjusted during these long years , with the medicine. How safe would it be to stop the medicine now and what are the chances of reoccurring. Secondly, I am taking only this medicine to tackle CML , and never heard about other medicines as you mentioned under 2nd and 3rd generations, is there any need to discuss about these medications with my doctor for any switch over. I would also need to know if in case i stop my only medicine for CML, what safeguards and precautions or any supplement should i consider apart from monitoring my CML regularly.

Thank you for your comment and being a subscriber. That is great to hear that your bcr-abl is at 0%. You should be able to try gonig off the medicine, but will just need to be tested every one or two months for the first year. The first 6 to 12 months are the most important with stopping treatment. Here are some videos we did on stopping treatment: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4icpZWJkcazg7w.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/dqmEx5etoczMmJs.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6l7w9uOYaqWiNY.html As for safeguards and precautions, the most important thing is to get tested frequently, especially the first year. In addition, it is always good to live a healthly life by eating well, exercising, and having good headspace and lifestyle. Stephen

Thank you for your comment. You will need to talk to your doctor, but if your bcr-abl can stay at 0% for more than two years, it may be possible to stop taking your medicine. Please see this video for more information: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4icpZWJkcazg7w.html Stephen
