But low key I love that MJF got cheered in his hometown. He’s been putting in work, kid deserves it. Punk is a genius.

Was part of this crowd, love punk but it was just so fun to boo him there and cheer MJF. Was absolutely the most fun I’ve had at a show...whole crowd from what I knew loves Punk, but we were having tons of fun feeding into the act. ^^

This is so well done. It really puts over MJF even more than he already was. He legitimizes him in front of his hometown crowd as someone who can be cheered. It adds some dynamism to the feud and Punk is believable in this role and is the perfect guy to work with MJF who is on the precipice of greatness, and really coming into his own as a talent.

Being in the audience for this was hysterical.

This had Heel Punk written all over it even though he's not technically a heel. I love how he didn't just play straight with things and just continued to be a babyface, but he just went along and played it all beautifully.

The crowd was awesome....they played along and Made Punk the Heel Brilliant! Love AEW

You can tell Punk was having fun playing “heel “ Punk has reached the level where at best he will get a mixed reaction he tried but the crowd was conflicted & enjoying themselves laughing

I had to laugh at when C.M. Punk mentioned his dog, Larry around 7:13-7:19. I didn't know that Larry was even "fixed", either...

Being there live as soon as Punk came out to MJF's theme he got demolished by the crowd. I was laughing my ass off for the first 5 minutes.

Maybe so, but his Dark Order brethren went to his hometown, got encouragement from the Mrs. Huber and Negative 1 and they f'ing won in tribute to him. And they also reconcile the same night. The spirit of the Exalted One will never die.

This was booked perfectly. Punk is a master at trolling the crowd and setting up a monster pop for MJF's entrance right after this. Excellent as always!

This was wonderful! If you noticed, when MJFs music hit, there were cheers but they weren't loud. Punk came out and the reaction was mixed. But once Punk, masterfully played the crowd, when MJF finally arrived, he was thunderously cheered. Punk...*Chefs Kiss*... well done.

That was classic heel Punk. Constantly crapping on Long Island throughout the promo, but getting in his own points about MJF running and hiding.

CM Punk pointed out the fact that Long Island is a heel and destroyed that crowd. I almost feel sorry for them, almost.

One of my first wrestling moments was being in the Nassau Coliseum at a live event during the height of the Ryder Revolution. This gives me that energy. LI truly one of the most underrated crowds in wrestling

I loved this so much. This is wrestling. He skewered the crowd without having to change one iota. They didn't ignore the boos, they embraced them. And next week, everyone will cheer him all the more and boo MJF all the more.

After peoples obsession with the idea that MJF should've done this during punks debut this was a great play on expectations.

I love what Punk did here. He didn't need to force being a babyface. He knew MJF was going to get cheered so why not lean into that? He knew how to play the crowd just like Bryan Danielson has been doing lately.

Punk looks like he was having a lot of fun in this segment

I've been watching wrestling in some form or fashion for more than thirty years, and I've never seen a crowd so utterly joyful at the idea of being run down on national television. Between this and nearly bringing MJF to tears in the next segment, LI's fans were absolutely killing it.

It’s not about heel or face, it’s getting a reaction and telling the story no matter where you are.

Now that is great mic work! Punk knew what he was getting in to, he worked the crowd, said exactly what he needed to to get the reaction he wanted. Love it!

Great segment and brilliant move by AEW for letting Punk come out to MJF's music and talking smack to the crowd.

I absolutely love that CM Punk/MJF totally flip Heel/Babyface based on location. Reminds me of when the Hart Foundation was a Heel in USA & Babyface in Canada in like 1996/1997.

For those jeering him for being "Happy Punk," well, here's a preview of how incredible heel Punk can still be. And this is why he's so good. He can get a reaction as either a face or heel, unlike some tribal chief out there that can really only get over as a heel.

uh he was a good babyface, the crowd were smarks who were pissed at a good looking dude getting over.

As a fellow Chicagoan and Hawks fan, this is fucking legendary! He absolutely knows how to feed off the crowd!

I love Punk so much, he can read and adapt to any crowd. He knew he wasn't going to get the hero reaction, so he turns up the heat and goes off on the crowd. Brilliant heel work while still being a baby face. He turned the city heel.

So damn good. The way Punk can control a crowd and take them in whatever direction he wants is masterful.

Helps that AEW crowds don't mind staying in character. They won't start chanting "this is awesome" for someone trying to make them boo. Or just sit on their hands, because the promo's going for some cheap heat.

I was there live. Holy shit the place EXPLODED for this shit. The place was so divided and it was such a wild experience
