    FSM says to use a dial indicator and make sure the bell housing is parallel with the back of the engine and centered on the crank. One person who sells clutches says you can get early wear if you're off. FSM is available free on the forums.

    Rear main, and pan gasket. I hate leaks. Amsoil is fine, but in my experience Redline MTL feels as close to factory as you can get. On the plus side a guy can find Redline at some local parts stores. Just dump five quarts in. Slight over fill helps that front input bearing. I still run an nv4500, about to cross 300k. 5th gear backed off at 130k. I decided to rebuild it at 220k only because third gear syncro was tired. Transmission looked perfect otherwise.

    I should have done those gaskets when I had the trans. out, but I decided to save them for another time. Good info, I'll try and look for the Redline. Sounds like you have experienced good luck with that trans. Has been a dependable trans. for my truck.

    @@marktolman6037 I like the trans. Wish the 2-3 split wasn't so wide. If a guy drives with even a little common sense and changes the oil they will last a really long time. I've towed a little over 13K with it when that truck was my primary. Now the truck is semi retired, and more for nostalgia cruises.

    @@ShainAndrews Agreed. Seems like they hit a good combination with the Cummins diesel and the 5 speed. I usually take off in 2nd gear, 1st is quite low geared. I have 3:42 gears.

    @marktolman6037

    I've seen several upgraded clutches for the 6.5 diesel with the nv4500. Also, alot of stock replacements. If you have a gas engine, it may be a little harder to find one. I don't work on those enough to know from experience if a diesel clutch will fit a gas engine as well...I would imagine there are differences, but I can't be sure.

    Let me know how you make out with this fluid. My 91’ has an 4500 swap. I’ve had the truck exactly a year and was lucky to find a local dealer that carried the factory mopar trans fluid and changed mine just weeks after I bought the truck.

  • @marktolman6037

    @marktolman6037

    2 жыл бұрын

    If my memory serves me right, I believe the 47re has a shorter handle, and the nv4500 has a shorter linkage..they both have the 2 bolt bracket that bolts to the side of the trans. I believe you could make either work though. I do know the manual and auto transfer cases (np241hd) 47re is 23 spline, nv4500 is 29 spline...take a different input spline...but I believe the transfer case shifters both could fit...just need to modify different linkages a. It..
