Sonds like a bearing or bushing is bad, it should not be rattling like that, I'm no expert, but Scuttlebutt says that if you have to replace your clutch on a Polaris, pay a little more and get the EPI, or the SLP performance clutch, and the heavy duty belt. Sorry, I can't help you anymore than that... good luck, and I hope you get back on the trails soon!!

These clutches really need to be rebuilt like every 800 miles or so. And I know 800 miles doesn't sound like a lot but it really is on an ATV. Especially if you have swamped it and you've ever gotten water or mud in the clutch. My sportsman 570 has about 400 mi on it and I have sucked muddy water in my CVT and my clutch is getting rebuilt before it even causes an issue.

Had the same issue. Removed clutch. Started the mule back up,noise gone. Replaced with new clutch, the noise came back. Took the vehicle to the dealership,45 minutes later it was solved. They replaced a defective spark plug wire. Now I have a spare clutch.

this happened to me when I installed new clutch. There is a one-way bearing behind the primery clutch and when this bearing is damaged this sound occures. And also the bearing has to be installed of course in the correct direction. (first time I somehow succeded to install it wrong). After I turned the one-way bearing in the correct direction everything turned perfect. The first sign of damaged one-way bearing is that the clutch runs all the time even without throttle. Normally when everything works well when the throttle is not pushed then the clutch shouldnt rotate.

Steven Bunker It's all good bro. How many miles are on the ATV? Apparently every 1000 miles it needs to be serviced and the spring replaced. Sometimes the weights depending on how they look. Doesn't hurt to take it off and have the dealer look at it. It was only like $30 for them to take it apart and tell me what's wrong. They will also have a quote on parts. I ended up on buying a new one since nobody had a used one for my machine so I put a clutch kit in it. Cost me about $800 but it's new and the kit is nice.

This had like 1400 miles on it or so. Maintenance should be done every 1000 miles. At this point the whole thing had to either be rebuilt or a new one. I went with new just in case and kept the old as parts. I also went with new so I can use custom springs and weights. Luckily for me the secondary is the updated one. Lessons learned so now I know when to check!

Dave L i hear you, i have reviewed various videos on rebuilding, after seeing your video again i would said it looks like the primary bearing was not spinning and allowing the belt to slide, thus causing the secondary to also spin putting pressure on the gears - regardless, well done, all new and like you said you have some parts, thats always a good thing, enjoy and ride on brother - be safe

C Gonzalez flat metal plates that prevents a bearing from rubbing against the back of the clutch. If the shims wear out then the expensive bearing wears out. Which caused this. So it's important to make sure they get replaced.
