    Liandrin actress is perfect, I'm ready to admire her image of Liandrin forever. Her concern about how Seanchan treat women who can channel and the way she said "kneel to me" made me be on her side and angry at Suroth for being rude to Liandrin first

    This shows how many joined the Dark One for different reasons, but the cultures the Darkfriends were born and raised in divide them. Also, Liandrin and Suroth's rivalry reminds me of how Ishamael joined the Dark One to break the Wheel entirely while the rest of the Forsaken joined for power and petty reasons.

    Liandrin never realised that she could have collapsed Seanchan society or at least caused a great deal of trouble by shouting out loud that the Sul'dam are also natural born channelers who can channel by themselves rather than thru Damane, ie they are no different from the Damane

  • @kainschild

    @kainschild

    It wouldn't have worked. In the books they did a good job of explaining how much of a mark of shame that having the power was to their society as a whole. So no one would have believed her. And if for some reason one or two people would have well they would have been killed quickly. The Seanchan were brutal in the books. Have not watched the show still a little disappointed that the final arc in the novels never got written. Robert Jordan had said that he would end series or have a trilogy after the main story with the Seanchan arc being dealt with. He was kind of vague on the details and from what I understand that was left out of his notes, transcriptions and interviews for Sanderson to finish it.

    If you read the books (at least the second) this episode does a great job of bringing this section to life. Small gripe but I don't want to give spoilers. The addition of the forsaken this early isn't bad and doesn't take away from the episode even tho they on Rand so much and don't give as much screen time to the 2 novices and accepted but it's also the best part of the episode so I'm conflicted over it. Still liked it. I hope they don't rush the damami. Hated them in the book and you need a peripheral villain that impossible to like but overshadows the dark one for the moment to make it the stakes real. Best episode of the season so far

    They’re a different nation from across the sea who want to reclaim ‘their’ land. Their customs are very different. High Lady Suroth (bald woman) is shown to be working with Ishamael, and her conversation with Liandrin indicates they are both allied with the Shadow. However, you will see that the Seanchan empire are not a nation of darkfriends collectively, but they do pose a threat for other reasons.

  • @Verhen_n

    An easy analogy is Seanchan are like second world war Japan with aspirations to conquer Korea and China. I always viewed them in this way. They are like Roman Empire with culture and aspirations of Japan and geography of Indonesia. Robert Jordan combined different historical aspects to one character or one in nation like Artur Hawking is part King Arthur Pendragon, part Alexander the great in the way he conquers all known land at such young age and part Charlemagne in way he mimicked his rift with clergy despite doing their job.

    The script worked in the books, but on screen, it just doesn't feel right for Liandrin to be patient enough to hear everything Suroth had to say. Anyway, I don't mind the hairstyle, pretty book accurate, but the actress probably has a lot of hair, so after hiding the hair under prosthetic scalp and makeup, her head is awfully big. This will probably trigger a lot of ranting from bookcloaks even though book accurate is exactly what they have been screaming for.

    Omg! Bleh! On the one positive hand they show a little bit of lesser known knowledge about Ishamael and one of the Dooms he sent in motion (The Seanchan's corrupted prophecy, the leashes, and Hawkwings hatred of the Aes Sedai). On the other hand, this is shot so badly, the lighting is wrong, the editing is really bad, there's way too much silence. The girls are just lying there why? They should be leashed already, right? And they're speaking about their Master out in the open as if the whole of the Seanchan empire are down with the Dark One! Which by the way gives a clue to a future plotline possibly being completely removed (Demandred and the Sharans). Because yeah sure, in book, Suroth is a darkfriend but they Liandrinn and Suroth met in secret, because no one is supposed to know you're a darkfriend, right? But in show, Ishy is chilling, out in the open, with the Seanchan. And here we are, Liandrinn and Suroth talking about their Master? Suroth has no Master other than the Empress, may she live forever.... Out in the open, right? WTF!!! What are they effing doing?

    in books liandian and suroth dont meet in some secret one on one. There are literally atleast 50+ as written in books. Reference para 3 chapter 40 TGH. They literally say those exact lines also about their master .

    Dude, read the books. These lines about their Master are lifted word for word from the books, and there are at least 50 Seanchan in attendance during this meeting. This show is flawed, there are a lot of problems, but seriously? Your going to complain about what's actually IN THE BOOKS??

    @@Jrdn357 I'm pretty convinced the clowns that hate on the show the most never actually read the books.

    This darkfiend rafe version is a fan-enemy 1984 style adaptation with large doses of hatred for the author, Robert Jordan.
