I thought the same. But I've since read 3 of the books and they butchered it. They gave all the male parts to the females. And destroyed the story. So sad. Wokeness has destroyed what could of been a masterpiece. Cause the books are amazing!

@@user.0704 they had trouble filming much of the ending of series 1 due to covid. So they had to retcon the end where Rand destroys the army, to the aes sedai doing it. Not much else they could have done unfortunately.

@@Damodred_Heiress I've read the books before the show (I had read all there is phase) and I prefer the show. But I have never been a sick to the source material kind of watcher.

As someone who loves the books, this show has been a rollercoaster ride for me. There's so much that's different, but at the same time I can see why they changed it. Such as Nynaeve catching up with the group after being taken by trollocs, rather than her just deciding to abandon the village that she's responsible for as Wisdom, that's still rebuilding from the trolloc raid, just so she can keep the four youths who consented to leave with Moiraine safe. (Also she already has a thing for Lan at this point too.)

Let's be real they were never going to be able to do an adaptation that could cover a majority of what's in the books the proper way because the books are so damn big and detailed they had to compress it into a story that would fit for the screen I think they're doing pretty good

Book reader here and loving the show. Jordan is super epic with a ton of characters not an easy show to make by any means but I'm having fun so far❤️

I like how they essentially explain how the only power has it's limits and if you want to avoid... well... kill yourself from burning of so much power you got to be careful. They mention that the girl in the middle was never a fully grown ae sedai, probably she was weaker than usual. Sho she knew about linking but not about how to actually control all that power.

But no one could have separate from her and how come they didn't die all at once. And how the healer who is consider the most powerful not overtake her or stop her.

⁠​⁠@@ActDeedWay the healer who is Nynaeve is still inexperienced at this point including Egwene (the one she healed). You burn from using the one power so much, killing the weaver in the process. They didn't die at once because some of them are stronger and can hold a lot of power at once, you can see it in the weaves, the more weaves they hold the more powerful they are.

​​​​​@@ActDeedWay this may assist. Varying power is displayed by how much of the one power you can draw on. The more power the more you can weave and command. The weave must then be fashioned, channelled, you are it's catalyst, the conduit. She asked the women to open themselves and allowed her in, so she could use them as conduits and herself as a catalyst. They are like batteries and she is the rod. If you notice, before the spell even finishes completion, one of the women (far right) has already collapsed. Her ability to draw on weave is minimal, no training, small experience. Her own energy, her self burns in place. The older lady has experience, but her ability to draw on that much weave was far exceeded and she burned at the climax. The main channeler states that she cannot let go. Drawing on the one power is like a vacuum and it had to return. The main channeler quite literally can't let go, she can't end it because she has become it that catalyst and she does not have the strength to stop it. She drew more on the one power from the two main characters than she had any ability to control. She had the training to understand weaving, but she outreaches herself. The entire culmination of that immense power seized her in the moment and she unravelled to it. The ecstatic feeling she has is because all control is lost, and she had nothing more to do than fall apart, taken by the one power. Edit: the two main characters cannot stop it despite having the ability to draw on more of the one power. They are just as beheld to it as her, they are already channeleing all the one power they can at that moment. Its a perfect scene that shows the consequences of exceeding limitations with magic, the arrogance and the consequence.

The Nynaeve actress is the best part of the show, amazing

The creators of the show clearly liked nynaeve more than rand and probably resented that he was the dragon

The actress playing Nynaeve is doing a great job. I am not sure I like this feral explosive channeling style she has in the show. In the books Nynaeve is an extremely skilled and powerful channeller, she is a cautious strategic thinker. It is true she can only channel when angry, but that leads to some truly epic ‘you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry’ moments.

The show made me want to reread the series. By book 11 she is somewhat skilled in healing and everything else she is just reactive, even when she gains control over the ability to channel at will. Still my favorite character, but she never really matures emotionally and is never cautious. Egwene has the better storyline by far.

Dude in the books Nynaeve never even did half this shit she could channel yes but only while angry and not at this level at all. plus the end fight was all dont by rand when he awakens his power while Nynaeve and Eeguan and the rest our all hiding from the forsaken at the eye of the world.

@@leandrodelmistro2238 I read the whole series from Christmas and just finished the series. Amazon did the books dirty, but the last three also suffered once Jordan died. But even in the last chapters Nynaeve is still impulsive and temperamental, she still has a long way to go but definitely has potential.

I'm interested to see where the season takes us.

I think at the end we see her power her love for her saved nynaeve from being dead

@@JP0411 Well in the books she gets chased by a rhino as she screams at it to go away. She also gets lifted up in the air multiple times, twirled and turned upside down, desperately keeping her skirt down. And she wanted to pass a message to an Aes Sedai... through a bond... through sex.

Fun fact: You CAN'T be made to draw on too much power when in a circle. You can't burn out your ability to channel. Also, when you sear your ability to channel, you dont physically burn and it doesn't kill you.

I have a feeling somewhere these 5 will link up someone and Rand will be the main channel and Nynaeve and Egwene will power him up through a link to kill everyone of the bad guys.

I get it. You like the show and I'm glad for that. I first read the series in 6th grade and if I said I had read it 50 times since, I'd be underselling it. To wait for 20 years to see something I loved and knew so well get not just changed but chopped apart and sewn together like Frankensteins monster after he's been through a wood chipper is horrifying and disappointing. Just a shame from start to finish.

Second, I learned an important lesson at SIX years old when I watched sleeping beauty on screen… written work is more often than not very DIFFERENT from screen adaptations for a few reasons: 1. You are not the audience they are trying to appeal to. You are a TINY part of it. DASSIT. They want folks who have never even looked at the books to watch the show, and that means making something they can understand and enjoy, THAT MEANS changes 2. They don’t Have an unlimited budget like a writer does 3. Some things DO NOT work on screen 4. Most folks do NOT wanna watch EXACTLY what they read. What would be the point of that? Y’all need to pipe down and quit acting brand new. Lord of the Rings had A LOT of changes and it won 9 Oscars. GOT was very different from ASOIAF and even with the backlash from season 8 it had record viewership and the millions who did like the final season outweigh the total viewership for most shows. This show has been successful too, and most of that success comes from viewers who have not read the books. Go pout elsewhere, maybe have a talk with whoever raised you and didn’t teach you that important lesson. I got lucky, not only is my Daddy a professor, Education was taken seriously at my house. My family did NOT play when it came to school. I’m sorry you didn’t learn the lessons I was taught at a young age, it would of saved you a lot of whining and embarrassment 💁🏾‍♀️

Fun facts for the non-book readers. In the books Nynaeve has an anger block which makes her difficult to channel. In the show they made her supernova every time and it is getting tiresome. Rand should be the real powerhouse in this show but it is not the case.

She seemed pretty angry saving Lan and while Black Wind was talking shit to her. Can't really explain the last scene though, I don't really understand the fake-out death and that's my only real issue. I would've liked to see Rand destroy the army as well, but hopefully we get a lot more Rand next year since he's on his own.

You missed a few o's. This show is very, very, very, very, very, very loosely based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. In fact I'm fairly certain that the writers only read a summary of the books written by someone who only ever read the spark notes.

@@mistercat5300 First, you are mistaken, the first season “covers” only book one of a 14 book series. Second, I agree and completely understand that a book to picture adaptation needs to incorporate lots of little changes as well as some major ones. However, no matter how I look at it the changes that were made were done so not to improve the transition between media formats but for two completely unnecessary reasons. One being an SJW agenda that isn’t done subtly it is crammed down our throats from the first episode, and quite unnecessarily because the books were full of diverse cultures, people, and matriarchal society’s. The second being that Rafe Judkins thinks that he is a better writer than Robert Jordan. He has said things like “It’s a very fundamental change actually to make to the book series, and it has a lot of ripple effects, and we’ll continue to do things like that I think are more reflective of what hopefully Robert Jordan would be writing if he was writing today.” That is clearly not what Jordan would have wanted, he was protective of his work saying things like "It's my story, guys. If you have ideas, write your own stories." and ".... if you write erotica using my characters and post it, I WILL find you, and I will come down on you like the Hammer of God ..." If you think that I’m wrong and want to use the claims of time constraints and budgetary excuses. Remember that GOT spent 50-60 million for season one and got 10 high quality episodes, sticking close but not exactly to the source material. WOT spent 92 million for season one and only got 8 episodes and a lot of bad CGI. As far as the time excuse goes and fitting a large book into 8 episodes, I counter with the following question. Why if they were having trouble fitting the book into 8 episodes did, they spend fully 2 whole episodes on characters and content that were either entirely fabricated or expanded beyond anything written in the books? I hold “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy up as a paragon of how to do a book to movie adaptation. They made many, many changes some of them to even the characters personalities to make the transition between mediums work, but they held true to the lore of the world, and they respected Tolkien’s work. Rafe Judkins has done the exact opposite; he has completely disregarded the lore and very nearly flat out claimed to be a better writer than Robert Jordan.

While I would've loved to Rand destroy the army at Tarwin's Gap, I'm ok with the change they made here - my only issue is the way they made Egwene heal Nynaeve after burning out: - channelling can't heal death, and Nynaeve was very dead looking here - assuming she wasn't dead (or she was but they retconned the healing thing), Egwene shouldn't have been able to heal her. Healing is supposed to take a lot of skill, and Nynaeve being able to heal the way she does is supposed to be an exception, but without any training Egwene shouldn't have been able to heal something that catastrophic

She is and that is consistent with the books but the sexual/romantic relationship isn't to spite Moiraine at all. She hates Moiraine because she sees her as taking their innocence and civilian life away. Now they must fight demons and learn to tap into the One Power. They were all simple village folk, in the books Nynaeve actually goes to the Tower and wants to learn to become Aes Sedai to get revenge on Moiraine lololol. Anyways season 2 is out Sep 1, LETS WATCH SOME MORE and FORM NEW OPINONS?

Can’t think of anything in the books that would preclude her from being black, in fact I think she’s pretty consistently described as being darker in coloring than the other main female characters. The book series as a whole also has a ton of black and brown characters, but apparently because that was years ago and you hadn’t yet been told to be mad at people of color being depicted in media it just didn’t bother you? Maybe the show is just badly written, and it being bad doesn’t have shit to do with the casting. But also maybe, and stay with me here, being a big douche about it because one of the characters isn’t as lilly-white as you pictured her is the disease. The character, as presented by the TV show, was pretty annoying and made some real dumb decisions, but she still came off wiser that you do after running that mouth. At least she’s fictional.
