Thank you for bringing us along on your hike! The mushrooms at 4:57 are actually a plant called Monotropa uniflora, in English the common name Is Ghost Pipe and google says in Japanese it's ギンリョウソウ (銀竜草) [Ginryōsō] They're parasitic to fungi so they don't need to photosynthesize, which is why they don't have chlorophyll. You were lucky to see them, each plant only blooms one week a year.

@@taijiskitchen Yes, but it is not very common, or not as common as it was in the passed😊 I live in a small town in the Faroe Islands and we have a box attached to our fence, facing the main road past our house, where we put egg from our chicken in every evening. The price is written on a small bord and a little piggy bank sits inside the box, beside the eggs, where people leave the money when taking eggs. We usually empty the piggy bank every morning 😊 We have been doing it for 5 + years and never had problems with anyone stealing in any way. It happens that people not have enough money on them, but they always return within a short yime a put what they owed in the piggy bank.

What an incredible hike! It reminds me of the rocky mountains or the BC rainforest in Canada. The alpine plants in Japan are amazing as well! The white looking plants you said were "strange looking" are called Indian Ghost in English. It's actually a parasitic flower, not a mushroom. The latin name is Monotropa uniflora.

I was thinking of walking the kumano kodo, Nakahechi trail over 6 days. Any advice? Is this a good hike to do? I’m looking for peace and solitude. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mate. Billy
