CLERKS III Review- Kevin Smith's Best Film in a Decade
Ойын-сауық
Back in 1994, Kevin Smith's indie classic, Clerks, became the unsung hero of those working behind the counter and in customer service. It also inspired many young filmmakers to make movies of their own. I became an instant fan of the hockey jersey-wearing Smith, as well as his on-screen persona of "Silent Bob." And yes, I've appreciated much of what he brought to his later features. Still I was weary about Clerks III. Dante, Randal, Jay, and his wordless sidekick, Bob. How do you continue with the dick and fart jokes when all the original actors are well into middle age? It certainly doesn't hurt to borrow from real-life adulthood fears.
The result is easily Smith's best film in over a decade.
Lionsgate in partnership with Fathom Events will be releasing CLERKS III exclusively in theaters on September 13th and 15th.

I was 17 when I saw the first one, and instantly fell in love with it. At 45, this felt like welcoming an old friend from high school back into my life: appreciating the good times and simultaneously facing our own mortality. The "dream bigger" lines from Rosario were such heartfelt moments, I couldn't help but tear up while watching. Such a fitting end to a young filmmaker's dream.

Gimme the spoiler: Who dies? Then I can decide if I wanna watch it or not.
Kevin Smith has those moments in some of his films where most of us can relate. It’s almost like a timeout from the absurdity and just spits truth about life, growing older, and relationships. Hope there is some of that in his latest work.

This movie was just beautiful. It's sitting with me still after watching it a few days ago. I'm heartbroken AND inspired. The references to the REAL making of CLERKS (such as Jay Mewes needing everyone to leave set to do the dancing bit) was perfect for fans like me. And the ending got me. I watched it with my girlfriend and I just cried silently, jaw agape. So poetic and perfect.

Watching this and going back to the scene in II in jail when Randal says "You're my best friend, and I love you. Please man, don't leave me." Just...ugh! 😭😭

Ditto! I was really concerned, but then I was too when I heard he was making Clerks II back in the day and that film was awesome! If the third film is as good as many are saying it is, Clerks could be one of the most flawless film trilogy of all time! Up their with the Godfather, BTTF, the OG Star Wars, Indiana Jones (4&5 don’t exist IMHO), the three colours and LOTR.

I love the fact that the Clerks films evolve as the characters age. The first two really pushed the envelope with the crude sexual humour, but this one, while it still has the humour, it dials it back, yet it still has the personality and heart of its predecessors.
“Kevin Smith’s best film in a decade”. Why does that read like damning with faint praise.
Just saw this tonight on the Convenience Tour. The energy in the theater was amazing!
I bought tickets for an old school friend and I to see this next Wednesday. Both being HUGE Kevin Smith fans (we saw "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in theaters, and we both turned 40 this year.) So, what did you think of it? I just saw it tonight, and it had me laughing out loud at numerous scenes. And I was not prepared for the emotional heartbreak and loss that occurs in this movie. I love the meta angle, and this is so mature, compared to any of his previous work, with Chasing Amy a close second. I'd all but given up on Smith, after disasters like Yoga Hosers, and Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot. I hated those movies, but Clerks III more than makes up for them.

After getting out of the theater, I thought this score was asinine. But sitting with it for all these hours now… yeah, it makes sense. It may not be what I wanted in terms of humor or how exactly it was made, but this was exactly what the third Clerks movie needed to be. It’s a beautiful movie, warts and all.

In all seriousness, what did people find satisfying with the ending and where the characters ended up? Genuinely curious.
This was a VERY generous review. I thought the movie was such a huge let down, I plan on revisiting it one more time but man the entire 2nd act being dedicated to reshooting the original film. And dude the cameos from celebrities, you liked that?! My fucking word maybe the most jarring scene of the movie!
When is it released in the uk and where can I see it?
The problem with his last several movies is, unlike Clerks and Chasing Amy, they weren't really personal to him. He lived those two movies, and I believe that Clerks III will benefit from that as well. The trailer for Clerks III is the first Kevin Smith trailer since Tusk that actually made me want to watch the movie. And I say this as a huge Kevin Smith fan. He's amazing for Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma alone. Tusk wasn't great, but very different from Smith's earlier movies. Clerks III is Smith's most personal film since the original Clerks, and it looks like he's coming full circle again. I'm so tired of being fooled by good trailers for bad movies, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I'm very happy for Kevin Smith. He definitely deserves a comeback.

For someone who's worked at a gas station in his 20's, had aortic valve heart surgery before 40 and lost a wife before the age of 50, I can honestly relate to much of Dante's life. For all the haters of this movie, feel free to hate, but the emotional beats in it are real. The older you get, the more you see that life isn't forever. Live it while you can. I related to him feeling lost on the jail scene.. as crazy and over the top as he was. He was a decade more bitter. But I thought the jail scene have that alot more context. Feeling he was wasting time, losing his best friend. Was alot on him. I think clerks 3 went a bit further to dull those edges a bit more.. From the angry young man to the dispirited older guy who gets a second chance.
I watched this last night and it was an amazing film. It was very heartfelt, it was very funny and it was so well written. I want to watch it again and i will have this as one of the top Kevin Smith films, maybe even the best although i guess it helps there is near 30 years of references and history put in to the film. It is though not just constant obvious nods to previous films but it helps that it all links up and yeah as the review says this can get a bit teary and emotional near the end. As a 40 year old also and growing up with kevin smith films a lot of what is in it is getting very relatable now.

The reason why son many people hate this is because we are so used to the offensive funny all the time, comedy movies. But these movies where we can watch and be sad. Those are some good movies. Yes I do agree killing off becky and Dante kinda messed me up. But still a good movie. And hey this was going to be a lot darker with the early script having Dante shot to death to save his deaf daughter at a ranger danger event shootout, Becky still dies of a drunk driver, and quick stop gets flooded and destroyed, and many sadder things.
Such a great movie I laughed I cried and it brought me back to a different time where things were a lot simpler

The first 30 minutes felt like forced humor but after Randal had the heart attack it slowly got better. I was sad Dante is unalive now
I'm very apprehensive about the movie like a lot have said. But Mewes is my boy. I mean I idolized him. And did everything he did. I was able to get clean a little sooner than him. But idk how looking back. I'm just glad he's been able stay clean. And...glad he got his grill fixed. He didn't look like himself for a while.
Is it better than Reboot?
I am super excited for it
I absolutely and positively REFUSE to believe there is anyone who loved the first movie or the second movie could describe this turdpile as anything but horrific, let alone pretend its great. This was perhaps the biggest F you to the original fans of similar age to the characters I could imagine them doing if that was their only goal. I couldn't decide if I wished the writers had committed suicide instead or the characters. I will fully admit I didn't make it past the forty minute mark, by then I was at zero laughs, half a dozen eye rolls and a loudly delivered "you really did sell out Kevin you useless sack of shit" and totally out of patience.
i’m going to the d.c. show on saturday, can’t wait 🤘

Randall’s story in the movie is literally just exactly happened to Kevin smith in real life. The heart attack scene is literally almost word for word how Kevin has described his real life one in interviews and after that happened, he went on to make jay and silent bob reboot where he guilt trips a lot of cameos to come in. Its so crazy how divisive this film is among the Clerks fans. Some say its too depressing/too politically correct and nothing like the previous entries while others admire it for that very same reason and feel the series has matured in the message while keeping that familiar Clerks-style tone. While I haven't seen it yet personally, I'm inclined to admire a filmmaker who has shit to say straight from the heart.
The thing that makes no sense about this is Kevin Smith is actually In the ViewAskewnaverse so technically wouldn’t Clerks already exist?
Clerks III is the only Kevin Smith movie I've had any interest in seeing since Clerks II. I've sat through enough of Kevin Smith's other movies to understand that he's a one-trick pony, but I'd still give that pony another chance to do his one trick. (Though I'm still keeping my expectations LOW.) And I've got to say, I never realized how many people dislike him now. I remember a time when NOT liking his movies would be met with looks of disbelief and insults of the usual toxic-fanbase variety, but now it's the opposite. Same thing with M. Night Shyamalan, but he's pretty much been dismissed as an eyeroll-inducing joke while Kevin Smith stirs up outright hatred.
