Jay and Silent Bob: A Look Back at the Greatest Duo in Entertainment
Ойын-сауық
A chronological look at every appearance made by Jay and Silent Bob over the last 30 years.
Jay and Silent Bob were introduced in "Clerks" (1994), and once the film landed on home video - the duo became a quick fan favorite. They continued to appear in nearly every Kevin Smith directed film (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks II, Jay and Silent Bob's Groovy Cartoon Movie, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and Clerks III). But the duo has made appearances in countless TV shows, music videos, video games, and more.
Huge thanks to anyone who uploaded "lost media" such as the Mallrats Premiere Party, unaired Clerks pilot, Jay and Silent Bob's Video Stash, and the "I Love the 90s" episodes.

I may as well be the 100th person to mention this, but just in case: 28:00 : This scene is actually a parody of a scene from "The Shining", where a door is open and we see one guy in a dog suit, presumably giving the guy on the bed 'intimate attention' 🤣 kzread.info/dash/bejne/X66MpKSypdrAdrw.html

Jason Mewes was in a Canadian show "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil". He was playing a Janitor and was a regular side character. I'm not sure if that fits your criteria as "appeared but didn't actually play J&SB".

Silent bob speaks on 2 separate occasions in Dogma too. He says "no tickets" when throwing Ben Affleck off the train, then later he says "thanks" when Chris Rock says if they clean up their language he'll put a good word in for them with Jesus.
Jason mews' story is super inspiring. The spinning image of a zero to hero. Nothing but respect for that man, and I wish him the best in his journey to sobriety

There's certain interviews where you get the distinct feeling Kevin sort of pushed Jason Mewes forward or put pressure on him to change his ways when he got too far into his addiction.
i haven't read all the comics, but there was one called Chasing Dogma which bridges their adventure between Chasing Amy and Dogma and i really enjoyed it

Dogma is one of my favourite films. It's one of two I've only bought.
I met Jason Mews shortly after he done the movie Big money rustlers, talked with him for about 15 minutes and he was super awesome.

I've heard the same from many who've met him.
Not even gonna lie, Bob's monologue at the end of Chasing Amy changed my outlook on relationships and made me reflect on my insecurities as a young teen. It hands down made me a better person.
In Dogma, Silent Bob also speaks on two separate occasions. He says "No ticket" on the train and "Thanks" to Rufus / God for considering letting them into Heaven.
Clerk's came out on video in 95 my Rookie year as a law enforcement officer and I am five other young officers and our one older officer who was 55 got together and watched the movie and every one of us except our old cop buddy loved it, we were a very small town department. I was hooked and have been a fan ever since.

Honestly, I highly respect cops, you are the people who run into all kinds of unknowns to help people in need. The only grudge I have is with drug laws, as I believe a person should have the freedom over his body to choose what they consume, even if it is harmful. Its a healthcare problem if anything, making it a criminal problem helps nobody. But of course cops are enforcers of laws, they dont write them, so I guess as long as they dont actively seek out to ruin lives I have no problems with them. Its a standard rule of life: “dont be a dick”

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back... Legendary
Jay and silent bob strike back is a classic movie. One of my favourites
Huge fan, thanks for covering the last comedy film duo. My Jay and Silent Bob collection of DVDs got stolen, and I watched them all monthly. (got my sub bro!)
I saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on pay per view back in 2001/2002 when the movie was going to home video. I had no idea, either, what the universe of their characters was about. I do remember seeing Dogma on like HBO or Starz when I was like 12 and was dumbfounded by what I was watching.
Their Scream 3 cameo kinda fits with the Miramax Studio scene from Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back .
thanks for the video man !! i really wanted to know more about those 2 . Was a good review through the years

Great compilation- I've wanted this for a while. You rarely got to see enough of them in the movies, so this is very gratifying. Good narration, and insight. 5 ⭐️ s.
One of your best videos and a great way to end the year. This dude has gotten me bingeing the view askewniverse since his mallratz vid. And it's great to have the whole Jay and Bob story in one organized video. KZread needs to pick this video up! fingers crossed! As always stay cool man B)

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is one of my favorites. I love that Jason Lee is the one that warns them about their comic book being made into a Movie and he also plays the guy who stole it. Plus it has one of my favorite lines. When Ben Aflfeck talks about the order of how you do a movie.... You're like a child. What've I been telling you? You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture. But then sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him. That stare at Kevin Smith is priceless.

This video came up in my recommended and I’ll admit it got me interested in checking them out. So today I got to watch clerks and it was pretty cool! I was too young to watch it when it came out and I became aware of J&SB when I saw trailers for strike back in 2001. Love these guys! Ever since I first watched Mallrats at 14. I never heard of Clerks and knew nothing about Mallrats but it was advertised in every one of my comic books for MONTHS so I was intrigued. I have to agree with you, aside from Brody's opening monologue about his cousin Walter, that first scene where they reference X-Men gets me every time. That's when i knew I found something special 💚!

Also, strike back was my first askew flick as well, my friend told me I wouldn't get it it's packed with references I need to understand to find it funny and I'd probably hate it, but I watched it with him anyway and loved it. Now knowing what I know it's even better, but as you said it was already a great comedy flick I enjoyed immensely. Weirdly enough I saw that someone made a video essay on that show about 2 weeks ago, here on KZread. I scrolled by it when I was searching for clips of the show.
Not 100% in line with what you're talking about, but Kevin Smith made a couple appearances on the Big Bang Theory, one as a guest on Wil Wheaton's podcast, where he offered "Penny" a role in Clerks 3. He's not Silent Bob, but the acknowledgement is there. Also the joke before he offered the role was "This movie is something completely different than anything I have done before, it's called Clerks 3!"
I'm so excited I get to meet them both this year!!!!

I don't know what you're talking about I love Jay and silent Bob the first time I watch this film. And couldn't wait to see him back in action again
Absolutely love Jay and Silent Bob, who are clearly the R2 and 3PO of the Askewniverse. Cannot wait for Mallrats II, and hope and pray for a Dogma reissue and sequel.
I also used to love the weekenders! Oh my goodness I had forgotten about that one. So good
I used to watch Soap and Bizarre in the late 70's and early 80's that weren't age-appropriate for me, and I'm so very glad you did the same thing with the Jay and Silent Bob/View Askew-iverse.
I got to meet Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson at the St Louis Mighty Con. It was surreal. I told them what a huge deal this film was when it came out, and that I purchased a VHS copy and showed the film to all of my friends individually. They seemed like normal dowm to earth guys. I did not tell them that Clerks 3 should not have been made...
Dogma was my first moving seeing them and they were great
"And a guy named Matt Damon" Where did he have to be rescued from this time? ^^ Jay and silent Bob are absolutely legendary. Comedy wouldn't be the same without them.

27:59 - J&SB parodying The Shining is something that I'll now never unsee.
This is an excellent video. I just wanted to point out that in the Nova Rockefeller music video, the scene with jay and Bob wasn’t just them getting it on, it was a reference to the ending of the 1980 film The Shining. It sounded like you were not aware of it, so I just wanted to let you know.
@MediaPastimes
Жыл бұрын
Someone else told me the reference personally after I uploaded the video, it’s been a while since I watched the shining but I probably still wouldn’t have made the connection 😅
Clerks animated is CRITICALLY underated.
"Noise noise noise" that song pops into my head consistently every few months since that film came out XD
I am enjoying this reminds me of the 70s thank u
Dude you must be young, as I said in a earlier comment I have been a fan since the beginning going back to 1995 , I really feel old now.

Yeah this video will become more and more dated as time goes by. That theater had only been open for like two months by the time I made this.
When I was a kid I had Clerks, the Clerks animated series, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob strikes back and Clerks 2 on DVD. I literally would just watch them over and over ive probably seen all of those 50 times MINIMUM.
Went to see Clerks due to Corrosion of Confomity being on the soundtrack. So glad i did. Smith writes amazing dialog with great characters
Great video, there were a few bits there I had no idea about, and I've been following Smith's career since 95! Clerks Animated might be my favourite out of all the View Askewverse, but I've generally enjoyed everything except the Super Groovy Cartoon Movie which I found unwatchable.
For your clip of the TV edit of Mallrats i wish you'd used the "fast karate punch" line that's my favorite cleaned up line ever
I'm pretty sure I first witnessed this duo in Dogma until years later my Faja introduced me to Clerks and clerks 2 to this very day clerks 1 and 2 take a easy first place truly amazing films

Silent Bob’s spoke in two separate occasions in dogma he said thanks when they were promised a spot in heaven, and three separate occasions in strike back (although they put the line in somewhere without syncing it to smiths voice) correcting jay on purple rain
jay and bob doing shining way an unexpected plus
I met Jason mewes at a party once... he was cool, he signed my hat "snootch to tha nootch"..... cool f*in guy

Also technically though silent Bob speaks for a LONG LONG time in Chasing Amy, it is but in one scene, it almost counts as two times since he has long breaks, especially by the end of said scene talking baout "Chasing Amy"...technically. In Dogma he speaks at least twice, and of course twice in Jay and SIlent Bobh strike back.
Wow this was done very well. One little thing, Jason did not allways relapse after the shoots. You can tell he is high in some scenes in dogma and he even mentioned once falling asleep from being too high on set. So for that one I know for sure he was not sober throughout the shoot, and I have my doubts for other movies.
17:14 oh man.. i love the weekenders! Thank you for reminding me

Lots of good memories in here. Kevin Smith also had a View Askew Message Board where fans could interact with many of the actors and friends. Kevin's wife Jen had a room of her own to chat in as well. Sadly, Bryan Johnson got it shut down in a moment of insecurity. Also, The Shining is the new Navy Seals reference after this video commentary. 🤣
My Jersey Boys. My hometown Matawan is about 20 minutes from the Highlands and me and my friends would go to the Quick Stop all the time
I'm from NJ but as a 24 yr old went to Illinois to visit my friend and kept telling me "You gotta see this movie!" So he pops in the VHS tape and right at the very beginning of "Clerks" they show a shot of a newspaper machine getting ripped off & that's when I got all excited. I was like "Hey, that's the Asbury Park Press! That's the paper I used to deliver when I was a kid!". Now I was super interested in the film and thought it was hilarious. Then once the dialogue kicked in and saw how everyone was pretty much a dick I thought "Yep, that's about right for NJ.".
It was Alanis Morissette's song "You Oughta Know" that Jay was referring to, not "Head Over Feet"
Silent Bob also speaks in two seperate okations on Dogma. Aside from saying "No tickets" he also says "Thanks" in the end to Rufus
I dunno about the best duo of all time but they're definitely awesome and one of the funnier ones! There are just so many duos that work well. Make a video on great duos!😊
Omg the weekenders was my favorite cartoon back in the day
Someone has probably already mentioned this, but, the bed scene in Nova Rockafella’s video is a homage to/parody of a visual from Kubrick’s The Shining.
Think you should have tipped a nod to Jason Mewes movie "Madness in the Method". It's odd, not great, but showed some potential with his own creative process.
