This is a perfect engine to show off some useful approaches to cleaning up an old engine that is intact. I see alot of engines that are just painted instead of cleaning properly and leaving the natural aluminum finish in place. I'll remove all the spray paint and show how to get some shine back to the old aluminum parts.

Maybe some more aggressive media like iron oxide or glass bead. The original paint may be a challenge. My tip is bring your parts to a powdercoat shop and pay them to blast down to bare metal all the painted parts and then you or a paint shop epoxy seal the metal quickly to prevent flash rusting from humidity. Blasting is usually a $80-100 fee and well worth the charge imo

I am sure glad you time to mess around. They make brass wheels and scuffing wheels in adult sizes as well! They would get this done in a half hour to an hour. Your playing around with tools for models and clay? Buy a high speed drill and some real paint removing tools. The acid is for after you have done everything else. The soap got most of the dirt and oil now get the rest of it with the right tools. a Dremal is for small jobs in tight things like that. Remember the right tool for the job! Christ how much time do you have? If you want Chemical paint remover to work fast! Set it in the sun for 15 -30 min. wash and recoat as necessary. But myself most of them are a waste of time. Soda blaster's are something I have never tried most reviewers say they are a waste of time as well. You could have sand blasted with a light to medium abrasive to start with then to real polishing tools and finished with the Dremal and it would have been done before the sun down the first day.
