    hahaha well first of all, the clean and jerk isnt a "crossfit" lift. dont know if you meant that but based on the context of your statement, thats what you implied. Secondly, it really isn't hard to master. thirdly, these people in exception of a few do not have the clean and jerk mastered hahahaha. That's why crossfit is given so much hate. The training methods are completely retarded, the rules are a joke, and the individuals that perform the lifts generally suck cock at them. Dont wanna be the one to break the bad news to you but crossfit is a joke..

    I always love how people hate on crossfit so much. If you don't like it don't do it but don't hate on people for wanting to get in shape. These elite crossfitters lift a shit ton of weight and have great cardio. It's about being an overall athlete not just being a specialist.

    7 years past and I still love the commentators saying these guys using the bounce is efficient and not a blatant 3 red lights in every other weightlifting event ever, Jason Khalifa is “so strong” but clearly failed 3 lifts, but Crossfit wants to know why it got the flack it got for years. At least some of the guys now can actually lift who lead the sport

    It got flack for years because of people simply not understanding what CrossFit actually is. The whole, that is illegal in weightlifting events is irrelevant, because it is not a weightlifting championship. Crossfit is and always has been about pushing the limits of what it means to be an athlete at the top of their game. It is why they do the kipping pull ups, because needing to do a pull up "properly" is much easier than Murph, or Atalanta is. Efficiency is super important in CrossFit, this is very clear to anyone who can see, with their eyes. Really all you have done is prove you are one of the people who just doesn't want to understand. My best piece of advice is maybe don't watch something you don't enjoy. Your life will be a lot less sad. Watch your weightlifting.

    +AceandScotch2 If they didn't call it the Clean and Jerk, then there'd be less of that. Problem is, CrossFit insist on calling this event a Clean and Jerk, but then allow any exercise that gets a barbell above someone's head, even if it isn't a Clean and Jerk.

  • @zaphod888

    @zaphod888

    No, they clean the bar up and raise it over their heads. Some of them jerk the bar, but some of them do not. It is acceptable for a competitor here to get the bar over their head through any combination of a jerk or a press, with or without carrying momentum from the clean. This isn't about their jerk form being bad, or wrong, it's about the fact that what some competitors are doing is not a jerk *at all*. Yes, this is an argument about semantics, but semantics are important. I'm not trying to say that CrossFitters should be held to the standard of Oly lifting, I'm saying that they shouldn't use the terminology of Oly lifting incorrectly.

  • @zaphod888

    @zaphod888

    I agree that it's not a big deal (I offered it more by way of explanation of why people care). The one potential problem of it is that mixing styles can be unsafe. Straightforwardly pressing rather than jerking is fine, but you see a few of these guys jerk, fail to hit lock-out and then press the bar the rest of the way, which can be seriously risky (which is the primary reason that it's banned in Oly competition). The *safe* thing to do if you try to jerk and miss the lockout is to intentionally fail the lift. I do worry about spectators watching competitors do things which aren't safe, having it ok'ed by CrossFit and therefore thinking it's ok. Yes, they should't be doing Oly lifts if they're not trained, but that won't actually stop people...
