    If anyone is going to critique, critique the form. Stop dissing the athletes for the weight. This isn't the olympics, it doesn't say that.

    Okay I'm not pro crossfit or anything, I weightlift but let me tell you this in regards of the "lack of form comments" etc. Crossfit is not bodybuilding, they are not trying to target a certain muscle or whatever with their excercise so they can look the best. They have techniques to be able to do as many reps as possible in a certain time period. Saying a crossfitter's form is terrible is like telling a strongman's form is terrible when he tries to lift one of those heavy ass balls on a platform for example. They don't care, it's about getting it done.

    BlackSchaap bad form leads to injuries. Compound excercises under time constraint lead to injuries. Is that so hard to get?

    I admire these guys a lot, ultra fit and obviously strong too, What amazes me is that a stadium full of people come to watch this, it doesn't strike me as a particularly fun 'spectator sport'.

    ok..for people who complain here are some actual stats for you. The average "listed weight of the crossfit competitors in this video is right around 195lbs. As it can be assumed that most people are not 100% honest on their reported weights you can assume these men are in the 200-210 range realistically.. this puts them in the 94kilo class for Olympic Lifting (206.8lbs). The WORLD RECORD for max lifts in this class in a competition setting (3 attempts at the clean and jerk) is 512.6lbs (233kg) set by Illya Illyn in the 2012 olympics. The highest weight clean and jerked successfully is 345lbs (156.8kg). The average of successful weight of the higher ladder is 325lbs (147.72kg). This means the average competitor in this video is reaching 63% of the highest weight ever recorded in competition by this class and the highest score in this event is 67%. These numbers are interesting for a few reasons.. The first is that as previously stated, these competitors are doing these events with 90second intervals in between lifts. Since 325lbs is the 5th ring of the ladder, they have moved 1,525 total lbs (693kg) in a total of 7:05. This is far less than the time spent by many pure Olympic lifters during their "warm up" with these weights as previously stated by people. This event is not to show a pure "fresh" 1RM (Rich Froning has a documented 1RM of 370lbs (168kg). This is to show a max effort under physical duress, not only in this event, but after the culmination of the events prior in the weekend. This is only to show that these competitors, who do not solely train in movements to build the Olympic lifts, are putting up numbers that are statistically significant compared to the world record in said event. They are doing it with far less specified training in the respective movement compared to a "World Class" Olympic Lifter or even some high level amateur "Pure Oly" lifters. Just take the above numbers into consideration. Also, For those of you who cite "Bad form", while some of these competitors are displaying less than perfect form while working on high loads for them, many work with the same coaches and high level Pure lifters. A very short list of Pure lifters that have publicly praised or are highly involved in the crossfit world (may be misspelling some names): Dimitry Klokov Justin Thacker John North Mike Burgener Glenn Pendlay Kendrick Farris Also, to the person who said "chinese women clean and jerk over 400lbs consistently" The WORLD RECORD in competiton for the 75+kg female(165+lbs) is 411.4lbs (187kg) set by Zhou Lulu in 2012 Olympics. What makes that interesting is that she has a reported weight of 293lbs (133kg). For those of you keeping track of simple math, that means she outweighs the average male competitor in this competition by 88lbs (40kg). That is multiple weight classes higher. Truly read the facts and be willing to post them before you give greif to athletes who can do more than any of us posting will likely ever be able to. Also, as a final note, Crossfit is probably not completely clean of steroids; however, every games athlete is tested prior to the games. Yes, there are ways they could probably get around the tests (if they have the money). It is also very well known that not every Olympic Pure lifter is clean. Not all countries have an agency as strict as USADA governing athletes. Just some food for thought.

    Lucas Parker has some good Joints, he probably warm real real and I mean real good on this event, I know he does like to warm real good when it comes to Oly Lifting sometimes it takes 2 long hours of warm, stretch warm up again and restretch again lol . I mean come on, no knee wrist straps or even a belt, no nothing, sure it is warming up real good to perform at full power with nothing on, it works. It's just patience people don't like to warm up or stretch for no more than 30 minutes and relies on knee, wrist straps, belt and more.... The only athlete that clean and jerk so clean. nice work Lucas P. working on this event with nothing on.

    You'll be waiting for quite some time, my friend. Crossfit is only increasing in popularity. Those that dislike crossfit either know nothing about it or have had a bad experience with it. Crossfit isn't simply "working out." With crossfit you get community, comradery and a support system of people that are rooting you on just as much as they are rooting for themselves. Besides, if you hate crossfit so much, don't waste your time watching and commenting!

    Joseph Suh well since it's a hypothetical bet i'll bet .........a millions gazillion quajillion dollars. AP's teammates say he squats more then anyone on his team that's including O and D line and in general they say he's an overall a crazy gym freak with mad strength. you know his conditioning is there. and if youve seem him run he's one of the fastest more agile RB's in the league if you gave him some train up let's say a year, hopefully he can handstand, yeah i'll take that bet. why would he not be able to? is there some kind of weird skill or secret to crossfit? it professional workouts and the person with best strength and fitness wins. AP has that. i'll bet you another thing. Rich froning (and i like and respect rich) could never run the rock like AP or probably make it to an nfl training camp. as a matter of fact i bet there are at least a dozen or more other athletes in the NFL if they decided to quit football and go crossfit they would dominate this tournament

  • @jsuh38b

    @jsuh38b

    10 жыл бұрын

    Well, I'd argue that if a buncha crossfitters quit CrossFit, they could make it big in the NFL... same with Oly Weightlifters (or any other Oly-level athlete). Thing is, you never know. Usain Bolt tried out for football but he supposedly failed - miserably. Simultaneously though, how many NFL players do you know who can run 100 meters in 9 and a half seconds?

    Joseph Suh exactly usain bolt tried out for nfl and nothing. but i bet theres a hand full of nfl players if they went track instead of football would be top ten track athletes. desean jackson, chris johnson, just to name a couple. it all boils down to where the money's at. the best athletes play for the biggest prize

BECAUSE IN THE SLIGHT CHANCE THAT YOU WIN, YOU'VE DEFINITELY PROVEN YOURSELF TO BE THE BEST OF THE BEST. REMEMBER THESE COMPETITIONS INCLUDE LIFTING, SPRINTING, PUSHING, PULLING, OBSTACLES ETC... AGAIN AN INCREDIBLY IGNORANT COMMENT.

    @ryan newell; this IS CrossFit, CrossFit advocates a mix of aerobic exercise, gymnastics, and Olympic weight lifting -(seen above...) CrossFit describes its strength and conditioning program as “constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement," with the Olympic lifts being a critical tool in the Crossfitters arsenal. So saying this is an Olympic lift CrossFit added to their regimen doesn't make sense, because Olympic lifting is part of CrossFit.

    I agree that the form starts to deteriorate but I think its due to the time limits or trying for the points. I've used cross fit workouts interspersed with strong man sets and powerlifting sets and the key in all of them for me to avoid injury is form and rest between sets. I don't rush and that keeps me safe. These guys don't have that luxury since it's competition.

  • @miertjie94

    No need to get upset PurelyAction! But yes, for athletes who focus on only strength this is not so heavy. If you disagree just look up any Olympic lifting video and you will see. Im not hating because what they do is totally different and in another dimension. But yeah its a fact that the weight on the bar aint all that special.

    we dont want to see people get hurt...and cross fit is notorious to having bad form because the aerobic activities compromises the anaerobic movements. we criticize it for that. cross fit wont ever criticize powerlifting because powerlifting uses great form, and cross fit utilizes bodybuilding and powerlifting form and technique

    This event is actually just like professional wieghtlifting, You go for higher and higher weight and they do it with great form. Karl-Arvid Svensson Rissanen i agree with you! these guys on here are using decent form...BUT..i wish there wasnt a time limit...dont mix the aerobic into ALL anaerobic stuff. calistenics and things like that i totally see the point, but not on these movements here...these are pure strength movements..dont suffer the integrity of them with the endurance and low bodyfat factors. when i posted the above comment it was referring to the person below us. im more referring to the people i see in my gym who walk around like theyre in hell because theyre in pain and or overtraining. i myself have self imposed injuries and i would always try to help people with similar problems. i also criticize the morons at my gym whom bouce the bar on their presses and swing like hell on their curls

  • @bman6678

    @bman6678

    Karl-Arvid Svensson Rissanen weightlifting competitions are not like this at all, you only have 3 attempts at the snatch and 3 attempts at the clean & Jerk to get to the heaviest weight. Sometimes you have 2 minutes between lifts sometimes 10minutes its not the same as this.

    Powerlifting and great form? Are you serious? I am competetive powerlifter with max squat at 180kg, max deadlift at 220kg and 140kg bench press, raw, all at bodyweight around 75kg. I love this sport but it is just as unhealthy as crossfit. In powerlifting you are not judged based on how healthy your form is and the truth is, perfect form means less weight on the bar. Thus people use risky ultra-low bar with their back being close to parallel when they reach the parallel, arch their backs during deadlift and so on. Brutal strength prevails over technique. In olympic lifting, for instance, perfect technique is a must not only to be safe, but also to complete the lift. If you arch your back during clean you will loose potential force and most likely miss the lift. Every sport is risky on competetive level. The problem starts when risky technique puts you above, not below your opponents on the scoreboard. Powerliftings suffers from this issue just as much as crossfit.

    This lift has been part of crossfit for a long time. Look back at the first WODs on crossfit.com. Also this lift is FAR more difficult than the simple lifts you describe so it's one thing to imagine yourself being good at it and it's another to actually be good at it. I'd imagine the roids will help though lol. To bad you can't compete legally of roids.

    Idk what there is to see.. like you dont see world record weights lifted, world record swimming this isnt the olypmics where the greatest at their sports meet. Its just like some guys that can do things slightly better than normal people get together and rebook just gives them a ton of money to make this look hype. We could have a chess tournament sponsered by nike if they put money into advertising we could get it to be on par with the superbowl.

    Rahul Dey The problem is that it is advertised as if it is olympic level. I mean, CrossFit claims the winners of the competition as "the fittest people in the world". Obviously, these competitions are not olympic level, yet it is a quantitative measure of who is the fittest? Get out of here.

    I couldn't agree more. Crossfit definitly has an approach that can help many people getting healthier. But the whole idea behind high-rep olympic lifting ( especially which shitty form ) is senseless and, rather than becoming fitter, a quick way to get injured.

    That's the challenge of high rep weightlifting. Maintaining form. And why maintain form? It's healthier, and it's more efficient. It is in the clock-chasers interest to have good form :)

    Crossfit is tough, but at the same time it is not by any means done properly by many people. This sport is very dangerous because they are only after very heavy weight and they sacrifice form. I have been a weightlifter for about 3 years straight now and I would never do what they do and sacrifice good form and hurt myself in the long run. Also by the way, clean and jerk is the most ridiculous move I have ever done because I do not have to do the move constantly to even go up in weight.

    Ah okay. I read your first comment to say that they do lifts that olympic lifters do not do, and I just wasn't sure what these were as olympic lifters will end up doing all sorts of barbell lifts in training. The running, rowing etc though...eugh...the last thing I'd want to do having just done a bunch of cleans!

    Thanks for the complement, and you are right i wouldn't be able to do these lifts right now b/c i do not train this lift. I am a powerlifter/bodybuilder. I only bench, squat, and deadlift. Im sure i could this If i would train for it. The comment I posted was to the BS crossfiters that talk shit, I regret not watching this video. This is not crossfit! This is an olympic lift that crossfit added to there regiment.

Basically I am saying I agree with you but I think their application / interpretation is a bit flawed. Better than nothing though! LOL Better for a fit America. Thank you for objectively reading what I said. It was not a slam on what they are doing, I just think it is more confusing. Where is the tough mudder component? :-)

    I'll wait to see their 40 times before calling them a TRUE athlete. No doubt about them for strength, balance, & endurance, & it does seem a step up against bodybuilders, but I feel it's just an added challenge. In the end, I'm still learning what Crossfit does as far competition but they look similar to a strongest man contest. Not much actual running involved, because it's focused on strength than speed. Military soldiers I felt better calling TRUE athletes cuz their focus is spread to all.
