    Perfect job for average Joe's bike. Tip: If you're interested in the right torque, get yourself the Big Blue Book by Park Tools, they have lots ot data in it. The previous versions can be found quite cheap, and give you the same information as the newest one, unless you're interested in mounting a DI2.

    copper slip is designed for high heat areas. Think exhaust manifold bolts. brake caliper bolts. the idea being the carrier burns off leaving behind a trace amount of copper, A very soft metal that will help with stopping seizing. I call it slip too. my college tutor was old school and it stuck.

I'm currently going through a few nice upgrades on my commuter to make it a little nicer to ride, because sometimes I'll pick my MTB for a ride to a friends just because my commuter doesn't feel great, but making a few small upgrades (tidying the cables, flipped the stem to make it look faster, and stickers over the big scratches) has made me love riding it again!

    I see you applied a bit of white grease before installation of crank arms. I recently searched this online and opinions were split whether this is good or not . The main disadvantage people state is that the crank arms could go on the square taper further or have a sloppy fit over time . What’s been your experience and advice? Thanks and again great work!

  • @Bikespeeds

    @Bikespeeds

    2 жыл бұрын

    The bottom bracket is a serviceable item, chances are in the life of the bike it will need replacing. A skim of grease on the square taper will help with removal of the chainset, it’s future proofing ease of service at that time. If a bike has a regular service schedule the arms should be torqued (40nm) frequently through the life cycle of the bearing. The rounding off of the pedal arm is usually because the bolt was never torqued correctly from new and then never checked, often years old before the complaint is made
