Hello Lee & Simon. I love the cycle maintenance videos you are making for KZread. Lee you must have some very happy customers. I love the syringes for delivery of the oils and grease. I ordered a set of these of your Bikespeeds shop and I look forward to receiving them in the post. I have Treated myself to a new bike and going to check it over when I receive it. Have a two cheap road bikes currently, brought via Halfords, which I maintain at home. Thank you the interesting content you are making for us cycle enthusiasts.

Love watching the brake down of the bikes clean and rebuild, question for you Lee is the black gunk that builds up what's the best way to clean that off. My mate asked me to do his bike and it was a pain yo get clean properly

That saddle is probably 350g, get a lightweight carbon one for $30 and save 240g. Your QR axles are easily 65g each, buy titanium ones for $15 and save 100g. That 105 looking cassette is nearly 350g, buy a lightweight one for $50 and save 140g. Source: I'm a weightweenie and I flip 50 bikes a year and reduce all their weight for fun.

I have a vintage bike I've been meaning to get serviced, and I kind of want to do it myself now. The issue is that I have none of these tools! D': One day, old af mountain bike, one day.

I have been thinking about doing this for a long time. My neighbour used to encourage me to do this or start working on electric bikes when it started booming. He works on daily city bikes and enjoyed watching him fixing them up. This was not enough to push me to work on bikes. Now seeing you working on old racebikes as passionate as you are this is getting very inspiring for me to start and learn this 😁 Got some much needed tools now and currently looking for old racebikes to resto. The satisfaction I am gunna get is what I was looking for to get me motivated. Thanks and keep these videos rolling love them ❤

Looks like when the cable housing was trimmed, the ferrules were weighed. Surely you replaced those, and they shouldn't be included in the weight savings.

The best advice in this whole video is to thread a nut onto a screw or bolt before cutting it, because it chases the cut end when you unscrew it. This is just a great tip for home mechanics and tinkerers, and took me a while to figure out on my own.

Right now I've got a mixture of riding and running going week to week. My cycling has been ramped up since last summer and it's paid off in spades. Both for pounds down and fitness. For what's normally a before breakfast morning ride I've been going for 45-75 plus minutes with hills in places. While that's worked well for me, if I pull that back to 45-55 minutes or so, it gives me more morning time for getting my dog out for her walk, yet it's still fine enough fitness riding time for me. Plus with the running I feel that week to week, I'm improving on the fitness base I've established from cycling only. In terms of the big cardio exercise I mean. The fact is, when you knock off a couple of stone for weight, your perspective alters and you reconsider things you used to do. But boy, did it take some working at it the first couple of weeks, even being in pretty decent shape from the bikes! Not the wind that is. Wind was fine. Just the legs. I'm always a little envious of the rich countryside to ride in just about anywhere in England. Everyplace has it's perks I'd reckon though and you go with what you have. Nothing here is really countryside unless you get out to the dirt trails on a hybrid.

I was a bit surprised to see the bottle cages going. I know this was only an exercise in weight saving but they are a completely necessary weight to have on any bicycle.

  • @tormodhaugen3220

I agree. In addition, you can save a lot of weight by being careful about which bottle cages you choose and which bolts you use. Choose the right bottle cages, bottles and bolts, and you might shave off 100 g with minimal costs.

Not really a crash but someone thought it'd be funny to boot my bike when i pulled into Halfords for lube (Muc off it was that Halfords was closer than any bike shop). it bent the wheel and wrote off my hangar. I took it as an opportunity to do a full strip down and tune. It now rides better than ever!

I've got a Geoff Wiles that I ride at least once a week. Vintage 1984, 6 speed although some parts have been upgraded over the years, the wheels are still original. One of these days I'll add up the mileage I've done on it. Enjoyed seeing this Peugeot come back to life as I had one in the 70s! Good job :)

Fantastic job, especially sleuthing out all the consequences of the crash. I bent a derailleur hanger when I'd propped the bike against a railing for a photo, and the moment I turned my back it tipped over. I knew it was bent right away because the shifting was off for the rest of the ride. I got a cheap derailleur alignment gauge and sorted it out before the next ride.
