Thank you very much. If i wanted to actually use the quadratic formula where in Classpad II fx-cp400 cas do i locate the key for +/- sign?

It exists on the abc - Math tab, but it can only be used when writing notes in ClassPad. If you try to use it in main for a calculation an error is thrown. You must perform two separate calculations if you want to use the quadratic formula.

For a while I was worried because the equation x^2 +6x +12=0 has solutions, 2 conjugate complex numbers.Then I realised that I had to change the real number mode to the complex one.The complex mode also applies to factor and expand -partial fraction.Thank you.

How to get the solution...only number...for using... Ex: x=-5, how to get -5?

Solutions to any equation are returned as a list, such as {x=-5, x=1} for a quadratic. To work with this list, store the solutions as a variable, such as S. For example, you could do this using solve(x^2+4x-5=0,x)=>S. (Use Keyboard or Shift then (-) keys for =>). List S is now {x=-5, x=1}. To extract the first or second solution use S[1] or S[2], which will give you x=-5 or x=1 respectively. Finally, to obtain the value on the right-hand side of this equation, use the getRight() command from the Action - Equation menu. For example, getRight(S[1]) would return -5. Hope that helps.

when i press exe it comes up with no solution???

Type in x and tap EXE - chances are you'll see a number instead of x. If so, tap Edit, Clear All Variables and then you're good to go.
