Short videos explaining smart use of the Casio ClassPad (fx-CP400 and fx-CG500 PRIZM). Math level is aimed at students and teachers of the ATAR in Australia or the AP and SAT in the US.
I'm having a problem with my keyboard (the actual buttons, not the one on the screen) on my classpad II. When I click the brackets, it types a number like 7 or 4, when I click x, it types y, etc. I have two classpads, and the other one had the same problem but then it went away. I have tried restarting but that hasn't fixed it. It has full battery and everything. How do I fix it? And how can I prevent it from happening again?

Bad news. In my experience, this is a hardware issue and eventually only the onscreen keyboard can be used. Generally caused by a knock, the soldered connector between the keyboard and screen has been dislodged (hence can be an intermittent issue).

What happens to what? To plot more than one time series (ClassPad will plot up to 9 at once) use SetGraph and Setting... to add the extra series. See ClassPad Help 405 - Create Multiple Boxplots for an example on how to do this.

It exists on the abc - Math tab, but it can only be used when writing notes in ClassPad. If you try to use it in main for a calculation an error is thrown. You must perform two separate calculations if you want to use the quadratic formula.

Check that your ClassPad is in Real mode (bottom of screen) - not Cplx. Complex inequalities are a whole different problem and if your CAS is set to Cplx it sure aint doing it...

Did you watch the whole video? Around 1:45 the line is added using Calc - Regression - etc, etc. If yes, then go into Stats app, tap Edit - Clear All and start again. Clear All resets the Stats app and usually fixes any gremlins.

Exactly the same way as for the TI. For example, say you want the factors of 72. In Graph & Table, in the y1= slot enter 72/x, check that the table input is set from 1 to 72 in a step of 1, and create the table. Any pair of numbers (x, y1) that are both integers are factor pairs.

Thanks! Not everything in these intro videos will makes sense to all ClassPad users. Where I live in Australia, the majority of university bound high school students use ClassPad but only a fraction study discrete probability distributions such as the binomial. Once you've studied the math and need to calculate a probability associated with the binomial distribution I'd recommend my collection of videos at classpad.com.au.

Solutions to any equation are returned as a list, such as {x=-5, x=1} for a quadratic. To work with this list, store the solutions as a variable, such as S. For example, you could do this using solve(x^2+4x-5=0,x)=>S. (Use Keyboard or Shift then (-) keys for =>). List S is now {x=-5, x=1}. To extract the first or second solution use S[1] or S[2], which will give you x=-5 or x=1 respectively. Finally, to obtain the value on the right-hand side of this equation, use the getRight() command from the Action - Equation menu. For example, getRight(S[1]) would return -5. Hope that helps.

About 40 seconds into the video is the answer! To draw a random sample of size N from a binomial (n, p) distribution the parameters are randBin(n,p,N). If N is omitted, then N is assumed to be 1.

If you mean a double integral (wrt a and then wrt b), the answer is no. If they're just constants, then yes - you can include as many constants as you like in your expression, but be sure to Clear All Variables first in main, to make sure the constants have no stored value.

I have a A$4 course Coding With Classpad at thetuitioncentre.com.au/ where source code for several programs is available - but the math behind each program is very simple and freely available on the web. Typically, most of the code in my programs deals with screen output - Casio basic is a nightmare when it comes to display and dealing with strings. Just get a copy of the user manual and plug away at it.
