11:34 Pro-tip for tree planting: dig a square hole. If you have a round hole, especially in hard-packed soil, the roots don't want to grow out, as it follows the route of least resistance. Instead they get stuck in the loose filler soil, coiling up below the tree and preventing a wider root system from forming. A square hole has sharp corners, where the roots get pushed into and have nowhere to go but out. Done this way, the tree will have a much bigger chance of growing a solid root system, that isn't packed together.

Clarkson is hilarious! Its a joy to watch him getting yelled at by his employees, land manager, farmer, council, and his girlfriend all in a day's work.
Ben, you need to dig your holes wider than that for a tree…makes it much easier for the roots to spread out and grow if they’re growing through loose soil as opposed to that compacted clay filled soil you’ve got
Loved this. Laugh out loud. Great banter and connection between you both.

I'm over here in Pontiac Michigan, watching this, while drinking an American Apple Imperial Hard Cider, from Blake's Orchard, not far from here. Blake's is a great orchard, and great cidery, worthy of a visit! They do tours, and tastings... I'll definitely visit his place, one day, if he opens to the public!
Love to see sandford orchards doing well. The distillery is from my home town and I'm seeing it more and more further from home. Try Devon mist, it's even more drinkable. Looking forward to seeing how well Ben does when it comes to making his own cider to.
I'm glad to see Ben connecting with nature through apple trees, he'll be better for it, and im super looking forward to trying his cider
Ben Collin’s, best Motoring content in the world - love him on Drivetribe and love him on Ben Collin’s … fan from down under 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Ben Collins : For catching your apples, you wanna set up bug net or snow fence laid out horizontally and raised up about 1 meter from the ground in a circle around the base of your apple tree(s) for harvesting the apples without needing to pick them up by hand. Posts for snow fence and your choice of material, but something that flexes is ideal so they don't break or shred when falling.
Cool show again guys, thank you ! Please keep them coming 👍 Btw, I would put a net or a tarp under that tree to catch the apples like they do when harvesting olives.
"It can be cold and wet sometimes"...you can hear it in his voice, it reminds him of home in Scotland...
If you're not planning to use the apples, get one of the golf cart attachments they use at driving ranges and hook it up to the Kubota.
Ben definitely is a guy i'd happily have a beer with.
There was something so satisfying of seeing Mike bouncing up and down on the car to get it out of the mud. BENJAMIN!!! 😂😂😂

Livin' the dream, legend.
Wow a really beautiful property, enjoy it!
Oh gosh! All this talk of Ben getting back to Dunsfold to do some laps is very exciting!
"Over the border, Somerset" reminded me of the Clarkson quote "Burford ... to most people in Chipping Norton, myself included, is basically France." talking about one of the Murdochs living there, there are a number of Murdochs closer to Chippy and he's mostly correct other than there are signposts saying where Burford is. (Never been there though). Loved this though, nice plan Ben.
the device you put on the ground to pick the apples is called a net. Bit late for that now
Lay a tarp or wrap around the tree, also little baskets that surround at the bottom you lift up and dump into a bin.
yes!!! no more rb branding on Mike anywhere in plain sight... I'm proud of you 👌
Awesome
I would love for these two to get there own Amazon series love the content final get my top gear fix whilst waiting for the grand tour specials
Oh boy am I excited to see Ben's fast response vehicle.
We moved into a place on a large plot that has apple trees on it and early on we were being bombarded with kamikaze apples that would split when they hit the ground so we would throw them away. Eventually we bought an apple picker which is like a small open cage on an extended pole to pick them before they drop. Do you use the damaged apples in your cider? I think you need something like a netting trampoline that sits under the tree so when the apples fall onto it they can then roll down into a collecting bag (not too big a bag cos they weigh a tonne)
The stig would be such an awesome friend to have.
Camerawork is great on this video!
Some say that he once grew wheat using his sweat, and that he thinks manure is a French delicacy All we know is, he's not The Stig, but he is The Stig's Farmer Cousin!
Mike is such a kid 😂😂
I love how Ben always owns a social situation. Friendly and willing, but just gently patronising.
Bless him, Jeremy is getting forgetful in his old age!
Such a nice climate, honestly. Not too hot, not dry, not freezing cold in winter like North America. Great place for fruit trees or livestock

I kinda want to move to Devon as well, even though i have never been there before, but it's more about my favorite period called the Devonian. I just like the idea of the ancient dirt, having been around since the Devonian and possibly having some Dunkleosteus skulls hidden in there. To me it feels like it's a separate corner in time on Earth, aside from the stereotypes about Devon.
Throwing fallen apples at each other was something my siblings and I did on the farm when we were kids. Glad to see Ben keeping with the tradition
I grew up watching Top Gear, the trio and Stig are my heroes. Now that we are older and more responsible, being done with corporate life, I dream to live on a farm and do what Clarkson and Ben are doing.
Looking forward to seeing Stig Cider in a store near me :-)
I thought one of the ways to deal with fallen fruit was to put a giant net on the ground so the fruit falls into it and when it needs emptying you can kinda just drag them all away. Then you can empty the net into whatever container you'd like. Either raising the corners a bit so the fruit doesn't roll off or using tent pegs to hold the net down. Not overly engineery and water can still go back into the soil.
"Collin's Farm..." "Who's Collin.... oh" 🤣
Ben is such a natural on camera. I love watching him
Love to see it
At least we are still getting content from these great humans 🎉😂
There is a way to get the apples from the tree, check how machines pick olives from the trees in Portugal, it's actually like a reverse umbrella with the shaker attached to it, so it is a 2 in one...
