Yeah, Reapers Due, Way of Life, Conclave, Monks and Mystics (for all the shit that it got, societies really gave you a LOT to RP towards besides just expansion) and even Holy Fury to an extent. Not to mention all the events for Pagans, Muslims, Jews etc. from the religion DLCs that unlocked them. I think a lot of the freeform choices they added make it difficult though. I feel like there should be some kind of a reaction when my nudist female-dominated Shia islamic faith Sultana goes to Hajj with her harem, but I get that takes time to account for every weird permutation

I started as a count and got the Rome achievement; however it was a count in the Byzantine empire. I worked my way up, and did role play. Besides a queen of mine that was shy, fuck the shy trait.

I discovered tour channel because of hoi4. Hoi4 is the only paradox game i know how to play but since you're such a funny, charismatic guy, I'll stick around for a good while

Been here since around 5k just want to say I am so happy its gone this far. Keep up the great work.

I haven't watched the streams, so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand Tommy's criticisms regarding roleplay in CK3. He says in this video that the game is just "claim, war, repeat", but there are other ways to expand than just warfare. With intrigue and diplomacy you can expand without ever going to war. I'm not a streamer, and it's not fair for me to say that's he's roleplaying wrong, but isn't part of roleplaying immersing yourself in the events of game, even the ones that mess up your plans and cause setbacks? Real life is full of those things, but maybe being a streamer is putting pressure on him to always win and succeed? No matter how he chooses to play, I'd much rather watch his content knowing he's enjoying himself rather than suffering for the masses.

Claims are much easier to gain in ck3 and are guaranteed, plus you can just claim duchy titles so easy now. Ck2 you were only ever given a small 2-5% chance a year to get a claim, and normally just a county. So the intrigue was more important, building alliances, marrying into more land, getting claimants to join your court to push thier claim and more.

I think CK3 needs some time for the role play to flesh out and an actual plan (shivers at Imperator). As a core game its great but obviously after years of CK2 content, its hard to compare them with the role play elements. I remember trying CK2 in 2012 and was like meh. Then I returned to it 2 years later and it was so different (in a good way) lol. Like so many events were fleshed out, stuff would escalate really interestingly. What I think CK3 would benefit from, updates that focus on expanding the culture system to create region and culture specific events. Right now, like what Tommy said, you essentially play everyone the same way, which is exactly the problem with Imperator (all the nations are exactly the same, just with different paint), but not as severe as Imperator. Imagine events where you're a Frank Feudal Duke in Dublin. Your culture butt heads with the region as you try to assimilate/ cooperate with them, plus tribal leaders you vassalized are pessimistic on your fuedal system as that's a change on their way of life. This would also set the foundation for cultural issues in the same faiths. More culture clash events would really help expand the rp.

I completely agree with Tommy on CK3. The foundation of the game is great but it's so barebones. CK2 is way more fun because of all the years of DLC it has had so I'm prob just gonna go back to it because the rp stories are so much better.

Well CK2 was also shite when it came out. So was EUIV. So was HOI4. Don’t forget the poster boy, Imperator (such a complete disappointment even now). It is the way of newish Paradox Games. Personally, I don’t even like the Imperator style graphics. I don’t like the UI for whatever reason. I much prefer what they had in CK2. But I feel like that’s just me. In a few years, the game will be bearable to play. In another few, it will be good and become a classic like CK2. In another few, it will be great. We just have to bide our time while they shit out the DLC.

You're not wrong. Base games nowadays always tease or purposefully hold back content that is planned to be further fleshed out when the DLC is released. Usually for DLC to focus on flushing out one thing and one thing at a time entirely while altering other elements of the game.

I really enjoy ck3 and i think ck3 is in a lot of things better than ck2 but sadly (like all PDX games) if you want more awesome stuff in ck3 you need to get DLCs. Just look what ck2 was at the beginning, you couldn't even play as non-christians and after idk 6 or 7 years it was just epic. And i believe the same will happen with ck3

A Paradox game takes time to bloom into the amazing game they can be. That's true even for the acquired Cities Skyline. Gets better with age. And it's not like most triple A games these days, that you don't even get a full game at the start. These games are full games, but, they all have the potential to grow even further.
