CJTF DCS A-10C II Tank Killer Refresher Course

Attention: Per an update to make the HMD SOI it is now Coolie Hat Aft Short.
This lesson is a refresher course covering the DCS A-10C II Tank Killer. It is intended for use by CJTF members attached to the VMFA-122 virtual squadron. or anyone getting back into the A-10C that may have not flown in a while due to other modules or life. Do to this being a refresher and not a beginner course, I did not cover takeoff or landing. I also moved very quickly through the material covered and edited out all non relevant footage to keep the lesson as shot as possible.

I left one step out during the startup. Turn off the APU when the ENG START CYCLE light goes off on the Caution Light Panel.
Nice tutorial! I appreciate the brief overview of such a large variety of topics.

Awesome refresher video, I am learning the A10, this gives me a complete picture of what i can or should be doing in a mission. +1, many thanks.
I have a question, at about 18:30 in the video, you slewed the box off of the HMD cross hairs and created a mark point from the box. I am trying to do that but its not working for me, the way it worked for you. For me the cross creates the mark point even the box is not on top of it. Is it still possible to do that? if Yes, what key command are you giving to make the box create the mark point, instead of the cross?

Hey thanks for the question. Unfortunately there was a bug introduced in a patch a while back that prevents the mark point from being made on the Helmet Designation Cursor. It has been reported and hopefully they’ll fix it in the near future. Until then we’ll just have to use the cross. You can find more info if you desire by doing a search for DCS A-10C II HDC not making mark point.

I followed your steps. But 1. pressing T/O Trim gets no light 2. Before I get to turn on SAS toggles, APU Gen light is already flashing and master caution flashing. 3. When I do FAST align, I don't get the dot beside it. What am I missing?

Sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the start up. The APU Gen light comes on when the first engine is started to remind you to turn it off. Mine only came on after the SAS because I went fast, so no worries if yours come on sooner. The TAKE OFF TRIM light should illuminate when the T/O TRIM button is pressed and held. Even if nothing else but the battery is on. If yours isn’t I’m not sure what to tell you. Make sure you’re pressing the right button and if you’re running any mods, disable them to test. I just ran though the start up on my end and the fast align dot appears when I press the button next to it during the start up procedure. Make sure you’re not waiting too long to do it. It could also be a symptom of the problem you’re having with the take off trim. Hope you can get it figured out.

@@CJTFStanThaMan thanks for the tips. I figured out takeoff trim will light up if yaw is set to the middle. Ok I’d turn off apu gen when the light flashes. You are right if I do the alignment quickly it will work for the FAST method, I’d get the asterisk. I’ve seen many start up procedures. I like yours the most. And the way you explain other things is like you were born an instructor.
