Fun episode. Reminds me of studying the philosophical dimension of property in law comparing Locke's labour theory of property, Bentham's utilitarian basis for private property, Marxism vs capitalist view of property, etc. Under modern law I think the land and gemstones would stay with their original owner. The state taking it is probably fine though, although perhaps could be implemented as a windfall tax given the owner didn't acquire this wealth through any sort of productive work. Look forward to next session of the cobblers/legal theorists
