yeah all the others are just hastily slapped down, dull boring and square... this is alive, dynamic and inspiring... I started a "multiple smaller cities" in CS:1 but was like heck no... gonna wait to CS:2... pulling huge powertowers out to all the lonely house enclaves and farms got old fast... and 1 ginormous city just isn't as interesting as a sprawling area with many villages and towns and then yes maybe a larger town somewhere later on

Don't worry about the right hand driving. Just call it a French town. The towns look very similar in some parts of the countryside. The meditative feeling you're getting when building this city is the same we get by watching your video. You voice helps with that a lot. Goed bezig! En wellicht is dit je niche.

  • @901blitz

Yes. I think one of the reason for this, aside from the fact that this build's focus was realism, is that the water has this weird shimmer affect going on normally and in the last pan it didn't. In the regular build view the water shimmers as if it were a puddle. From this altitude in real life you'd see water in a more flat brightness, with little flashes of light as the waves catch just the right angle to shine light back up at you. I feel like the graphics engine uses a water affect that is meant for a first person perspective when viewing water with no waves. I think it's one of the main factors that makes the game look significantly less realistic.

A lot of English towns that i grew up near and have a Saint in the name often include a geographical descriptor of a nearby hill or river - so St. Luke could just be short for its full name - for example St. Luke-on-the-Wold (a wold is a type of hill) or St. Luke-on-the-Plym (the river Plym runs through Plymouth). Possible inspiration for you! Absolutely loving this build!! ❤

Building on this good suggestion, a lot of very generic place names (such as Grange) got individual qualifying suffixes when railways reached them, to disambiguate e.g. Grange over Sands in Cumbria from other places with the same name.

St Luke's rings slightly better to me as a native. I live in Plymouth and it certainly is familiar to this style as well as Bournemouth probably, but I'd say Torquay or something of that scale would be good for inspiration. Falmouth too and Lyme Regis. Lots of really lovely places on that south coast.

This is a really great build. Completely made me rethink what I want to do for my first city when I get the game. My only comments would be usually you wouldn’t find buildings directly on a ring road. They usually have service stations next to the roundabouts but that’s about it. Also, towns and villages no matter how big or small usually have a ‘high street’, which the new mixed use building types would be perfect for. Otherwise it all looks very familiar!

People who are less skilled than you will just create an American style town with British buildings in it and then call it a British town, however you have replicated the style of the road layout so perfectly I might think it is actually a real place! Thank you!

I am not sure why people would complain about England/UK. The typical village/town from each of the nations do vary in style. Scotland is probably the highest contrast to England, I would say. Maybe they assumed you didn't understand the difference between the two. But I see no reason to make that assumption. P.S: St Luke or St Lukes is a very English name for streets or churches. But not towns or villages. :)

St Luke isnt the worse name. Some (particularly small) towns are named after Saints. The moat hilarious example is the city of St Davids, population 1800. From Wikipedia, there is a total of 10 (excluding St Davids) named St [something] that have a town council or market charter. There could be more villages and hamlets, but I only checked towns.

This build is incredible! I’m from the UK and have lived in multiple counties in northern and southern England. I think the build is most evocative of the Channel Islands. Guernsey’s capital is St Peter Port, which is similar to St Luke! Would be fantastic if there were churches and castles to make this build seem even more like England. I’d also love to see your Dutch builds. You guys really lead the pack when it comes to healthy and sustainable public transport and when I visited 20 years ago it seemed you had a lot more urban trees than us. I think my biggest hope for this game is changes that allow for more realistic variety than just "EU" and "NA", as the UK, Asia, and the Middle east would all be brilliantly fun to try and build cities in.

That area on the hill overlooking the "mouth" would very likely have been a trade town in days gone by. Good access to deep water, good visiabilty and a defensive position. Viking would love it. I think you should rename to Silvamouth 😂. ❤ from Scotland.

I wish you showed some real close-up shots as well of random points in the town. I know there's an element of FOMO where it's like "i wanna show EVERYTHING", but then it also ends up just being cinematic shots of EVERYTHING from high above but NOTHING up close. I'd love to see some slow shots of super close-up intersections, or neighbourhood alleys, people walking and cars doing their thing.

What you said about trying to do a rural area first then growing it into an urban area. Imagine that was a game mode, you start a map and it's just a rural area and you have to develop it, spend money buying out farm land so you can build motorways, not being able to demolish anything unless you buy it out, some stubborn holds out that won't sell you have to build around.

This is truly amazing. I hope i can replicate this once the game comes out. It would also be cool go over these vids after the embargo drops and slow the timelaps down and really walk us through the process. Or just do a new one at normal speed haha

The Fens that reside across Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and into Norfolk are very flat and i would say this map fits this area nicely, we barely have any hills in this area, just long swathes of flat agriculturial land.

Plymouth is about an hour's drive from me. So you could totally pull off the right-hand drive thing, they nutty down there. Couild be named St. Lukes after the Parish of St. Luke. Also need a church in there somewhere. Also, Chicken Coop or Barn.

Your city is very inspiring for how I want to design mine! Yours is very very unique among creators and very natural looking. Honestly, St Luke sounds more like it could be a New England location, if there was somewhere in america like this. That would go well with the right hand driving too.

You can really tell the games needs a terrain painter, mod or otherwise, as soon as possible. This looks great, but imagine it with more varied terrain. 😘

still THE BEST CS:2 build out there... and that a build is "inspired by" doesn't mean you have to 100% copy everything or drive on the wrong side of the road or anything... That people can even get "offended" about that is lame... "inspiration" doesn't mean "exact copy" but that it is merely inspired by... and that can be some things, many things or most things... there are always creative freedom... use it and go with it :D love the build

Loving this build, I live in a town with all these country roads and farmers fields, I think you’ve got it spot on 👌🏼 giving me some ideas for when I start on CS2
