Yet another very good video. I had to watch parts of it a couple times -- the normals scale and normals move are new to me, and mind-blowing! When I was first learning C4D, I made a knurled cylinder - I used totally different process that was not very elegant. I made a diamond, and swept it on a helix, then radial cloned it. Then I duplicated the cloner and put a negative value in the helix so it twists the opposite direction. Both cloners were made editable and boolean subtracted from a cylinder. In retrospect, it was full of triangles, not quads, but your bevel trick would resolve that!

Hi, don't we have a tool that can make every polygon a diamond shape like? In other 3d package we store the edege selection, triangulate, load the selection and melt. Blender has a modifier called decimate I guess to subdivide in 4 triangles each face.

How popular is it to own 3D modeling in 4d cinema? Or is it better to use Maya or Blender for this?

  • @polygonpen

When it comes to modeling, nearly all 3D Softwares works the same way, modeling rules are like universal, but some of them have extra tools etc so it is up to you. Every software has its own advanteges.

@@polygonpen Thanks for the answer! It's just not the first year that I have been tormented by the choice of software for 3D modeling, everyone is talking about this blender, but I really don't want to leave my native Cinema 4D .. They say that the cinema is not for 3D modeling, which is why silly thoughts appear imposed by other people and communities.

Hello, when i'm bevelling the dots when i'm turning the square to diamonds polygons (00:40), even when i'm checking the limits, the dots on the edges of the cylinder are keep beveling so there's no meeting point between these points. what can i do about that?

@@polygonpen should i optimize them before bevelling for the first time? When i triex to optimise the number of the dots went down to 540 while in your vdo it gets to 500. Of course i created the cylinder the same size as u did. Thank you for your fast reply!
