I think Cillian’s portrayal of Tommy in season one is why we root for him the rest of the series. He breaks your heart in season one in how broken he and the other WWI vets are. You see the bits of softness through his love for Grace. It’s just such a genius show.

Actors who win these awards have to campaign for it: they’re team (actor+publicist+manager+ etc) really have to work to get as much press exposure as possible.

He absolutely smashed his role as Tommy, they had a really good character in Mr Shelby but Cillian has made him more than ever expected, he pulls you in and keeps you there as you feel his pain, anguish and takes you on such a personal journey inside his character. Which makes Cillian a magnificent actor for it 👌🏽

The most impressive thing about Cillian is when he plays Tommy Shelby, you can see the pain in his eyes, you can see the hurt, it’s crazy. When I see Tommy Shelby on screen it feels like I’m watching a real person who lived in this time a fully formed human not a character in a show, it’s chilling at times. That’s why I love this show, it’s so gritty and real.

Everything about Cillian is so amazing, I can't even put it into words.

He speaks so elegantly... you can tell his very knowledgeable not specifically in a formal way but in a very emotional and artistic manner

he sounds fascinated by his own character and you can tell he really knows how to bring this character to life.

I love both of his accents, both IRL and as Tommy. The Brummie one is a hard one to pull off for a lot of actors. I think he does it fairly well. The Irish accent comes with a lot of hard R’s. It’s neat to hear him do both.

@@dodgybloke4441 well......... I think that some people you can't see them outside their role. For example, Jennifer Aniston. I can't see her outside of being Rachel from Friends. It's just hard cause she acts like that in most of her work. Hate me if you think it's dumb, but that's just my opinion.

SC2gamertroll yeah your right i think but it is a big difference between friends, a comedy show where you follow the life of a friends group in the 90’s and peaky blinders which is a completely different story we’re you cannot be your complete self seen to as it is made to be in the 20’s were for example tommy is a rich gangster or like a kind of outlaw so it will be impossible for him to be himself were, again it is much easier in a sitcom serie like friends.

This show was perfectly cast! Love every character! Each season better than the last, great writing, superb acting.

Cillian Murphy is giving me insomnia...yes, he is. I'm on a roll right now watching the series. Finished first two seasons in two days and can't get enough of this man's acting as well as his good looks. Cillian deserves more and more leas role in hollywood, he's just too precious 💕

My anger will always increase when I realise how underrated Cillian Murphy is

Well in the UK atkeast this role has made him a household name, and it seems to be blowing up worldwide which is great. Hes had an amazing career but hes truly next level in this show

I think he hasn't realized that we see him as Tommy Shelby ,because he was so real in his performance,that we dont see him as the actor in the show, is like he really is Tommy ,with the dark side sweet side and intellectual side. I have seen his other movies and, of course, Oppenheimer , but all I see is Tommy Shelby, which is the effect he has on the audience who watch him. One of the best actors of our time.

I'm rewatching the whole thing right now to prep for s6, Cillian has done a brilliant job bringing his character to life, he's truly mesmerizing ♡

It makes more sense to base our philosophy on this quote than on a book written for the elderly and edited by others over time. Those who fail to see that God (any kind of God) is just a human creation will never realize that they are free to do whatever they want. That they need not be afraid of a deity who will judge them afterlife. Because life afterlife just doesn't exist. The more you learn studying the history of mankind, the more you see how this world works and how our beliefs are just beliefs that will die with us.

He wasnt happy, but he was definitely mentally better than the following seasons. Success comes with a price..

I've just got onto series 3, i didn't watch it when it was on TV. Amazing, one of my all time favourites now. The whole cast are incredible actors too

I watched every single season..every single episode a million times..I love this series..it made me feel so connected to the Shelby family...I love the way you transformed yourself. .an I cried so hard when aunt Paula died an then found out she really did..I became a part of the Shelby family ❤❤❤❤

It must be strange for an actor to have spent so long doing films to find a career defining role in a BBC drama but Mr Murphy has done just that. No one else can ever play Tommy Shelby.

He has played fame so smart. Flew almost under the radar for nigh on 15yrs? There or there abouts. A long time before anyone gets too precise or pedantic. No one really knew who he was, then Peaky Blinders just went postal! Yeah he has done it better than going from a child star to superstar. He would scoff at that most likely. Being called a superstar. He seems very engaging with a really warm demeanour. The scenes with him and Tom hardy are just heavenly. Essential drama. Never followed anything before this

Cillian Murphy perhaps the only actor In this era that I have to think twice before I could recognize “oh it is Cillian!” from movie to movie. From 28days later to red eye to Batman to inception, you know it is him but he managed to give out a totally different person vibe without many facial changes (beard/hair etc)
