    Chuck Norris is awesome for admitting this. Idiots like STeven Seagal would never admit loss he would always brag about being the best at everything.

    That's because Jiu-Jitsu makes you humble. You get submitted so many times, that your ego goes away... more or less. Seagal needs to get choked out.

    I first saw Mr. Norris in 1967 in NYC, but didn’t meet him until a few years later in Long Beach, CA. I spoke briefly to him and came away with the same opinion, that he was a humble man. Years later, I became close friends with his first Black Belt, who still holds Mr. Norris in the highest regard even though he hasn’t trained with him since 1967.

    You have to admire his humility. He doesn't mind stating, without any affect, being overcome by other martial artists. That's a true master; the willingness to keep learning with an open mind, when already a master in his own right.

    I always admire chuck norris. he loves martial arts and really went out looking for techniques that worked. also people need to remember that these were the days way before ufc and rules so some of these fights were far more violent and lasted far longer than what we are used to. people always tell me "a real fight is over in moments" and in most cases thats true but when 2 warriors are highly trained it is not impossible for a fight to go for an hour (most people do not believe that but its true). our school (carnicella mma) is run by edson carvalhos top student and edsons street fight with wallid ismail was more than a half an hour and ended with wallid in the hospital. these were not times when you just went around bragging about who you could beat without someone knocking on your door looking to kick your ass.

    +Phill B Sadly this is how real martial artists are. No arrogance, simply wanting to learn more and more. I got my black belt in BJJ, transitioned in to more and more areas of martial arts. And got quite good, have had a few amateur fights just to see how it feels like compared to a street fight. But I would never brag about my experience. Sadly alot of teens of today arent like that.

  • @rebeccaherbertbjj

    @rebeccaherbertbjj

    yea many people in martial arts who had money and were able to seek out different styles knew who the gracies were. chuck norris and dan inosonto are students of bjj (I think dan actually teaches bjj classes as well as his jkd). benny the jet and gene lebell were in talks to fight the gracies but it didnt pan out (I read different stories of why so I guess its a case of 3 sides, your side, his side and the truth, but we will never really know the truth. I do know that gene was not close in age to helios sons so it would not really be fair for gene to be fighting such young men. I know two local new york martial artists who did fly down to see what the gracies were doing and they came back and said it was very effective stuff, this was before ufc. and of course after the first ufc everyone in my area was scrambling to find schools to learn bjj (people were even begging blue belts to teach them at the time). at the end of the day what the gracies were doing proved itself and when something works and your a fighter, you learn it and add it to your skill. I am sure people like gene and gokor saw the first ufc and said "I see what he did" while many stand up fighters who had very little take down defense at the time were probably in the dark about it.

    Michaelson Sarmiento I was in the Navy back in the early 80's to the early 90's. A couple of my Navy friends were in a bar when Chuck came in... He had a few friends and body guards, (People tend to attack famous Action Stars). They asked if Chuck would have a few beers with my Navy Friends. Chuck immediately said yes! Why... Because he did a stint in the Air Force. (Despite what popular press tries to portray, The Military Branches will Razz each other... because that is part of the Military, but if you Pick a Fight with any branch of the Military you will find out we all back up each other reguardless of the branch.) My Navy friends had free beers for the night because Chuck Norris let them sit with him and shoot the breeze with him for the night... and of course Chuck bought all the beers! That is the kind of guy Chuck is and that is one of the many reasons he is my hero!Sluggo

    +smoothkiller777 No way you can say who would have won if they had fought because outside of film they never really fought. One thing is for sure, Chuck Norris proved himself as a competitor winning many competitions and championships if I'm not mistaken. Bruce Lee didn't compete, he showed off for the camera but the only way to prove you can really fight is to compete where the moves aren't all choreographed ahead of time. I think your opinion is biased because you are probably Chinese or at the least East Asian in heritage. Looking at it objectively, Norris proved himself in fight after fight and Lee did not have anywhere near the actual experience of Norris to prove himself with.

    +Poppa Poppy You are right. Chuck Norris was the Professional Karate World Champion (Middleweight) for 6 STRAIGHT years. No one could touch him. Even Bruce Lee went to MSG to see Chuck fight. That's how Bruce and Chuck met (in NYC, when Bruce was starring in "The Green Hornet" around the same time), and they became very close friends, and trained together for about 3 yrs. It's so stupid when some ppl get SO ornery about a "Chuck Norris vs Bruce Lee" match, because the truth is, both were/are ultimate bad asses. That said, Chuck was VERY accomplished, no question.

    The fact that really matters about Chuck Norris is that he has continuously looked for improving his skills in martial arts. I'm still amazed that Chuck Norris has been one of the first american martial artist to have discovered BJJ by attending at lessons with the Gracie in 1988 and to have invited them to Las Vegas to teach BJJ to his fellow martial artists, five years before UFC1 came out. Chuck is 73 years old now, but he seems in a great shape. That's impressive.
