    The fact that you can customize the inside deal, alone, is a major leap over any competitor alone. Great job man, i hope this breaks the market and you get a lot of revenue from it, because if there's anyone deserving of that, it's you. Also, because i want to see what's next. I mean, if this is one example, what else can you do. Awesome stuff.

    I love seeing so many of the great channels out there getting and using those cameras. It's amazing device that was well made and now it is bringing a bunch of youtubers together helping people like myself find even more amazing channels. The only bad thing is that I desperately want one but cannot justify the expense at the moment.

    Love your videos and I am glad, that you have finally started your kickstarter. There is only one tiny gripe with this video. C-mount lenses does not allow more light in, compared to full frame lenses at similar apertures. Basically, you have to apply crop factor not only to focal length, but to aperture too, to calculate equivalent lenses for different sensor sizes. For example, Chronos 1.4 2/3" sensor has crop factor of 3.9. If you would want on Chronos sensor get equivalent lens to something like standard full-frame 50mm f/1.4 - you would need something like ~12.8mm f/0.38, to have the same FOV, same amount of light and depth of field. To have more info about it, I suggest to watch Tony Northrup's "Crop Factor: Why you multiply the aperture by the crop factor when comparing lenses" and "Crop Factor with ISO & Aperture: How Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Canon, Nikon & Fuji Cheat You" videos on KZread. This crop factor thing is rather complicated and even in field of professional photographers there is a lot of confusion and misinformation about it...

    That's correct, perhaps I should have phrased that better. What I meant to say was the C mount lenses allow far more light per unit area of sensor than normal DSLR lenses.

    I really hope you're able to start a company to keep manufacturing these and hopefully other products in the future. You're a real professional and in this day, age, and business sector, as long as the hardware and documentation are reliable and the software is open source, the users will provide any software beyond the bare minimum required for the product to be operational.

    Absolutely amazing with all those features. Great to see that you made an actual product out of it and i can guarantee you will get huge orders if the campaign gets enough attention. The only thing that seems a bit strange is the battery choice. Yes the battery is currenty available and not too expensive, but the question is for how long? Single 18650 cells might have been better for the target user as they are available everywhere and can be charged in in many chargers, or left in the camera.

    Thanks! Got any suggestions for better batteries? Needs about 30Wh or so, and something that reasonably fits in a grip.

    As he said, plain 18650 cells. The battery pack you are using has also three 3.1Ah 18650 cells in it, so not much to change ;)

  • @Gigawipf

    @Gigawipf

    7 жыл бұрын

    The EN-EL4a looks like it consists of 3 18650 cells anyways with a protection circuit, so it probably would be even smaller and the users could choose the cells themselves and don't have to rely on cheap made batteries where you don't know if they use recycled cells. In the same place you could put in two bare cells directly and a protection and charging circuit on the connection board with springs. 3 cells might be a strange number and not as easy to charge as 2 cells, but with 3 3,5Ah 18650 you will get 37Wh. I am not sure if that would be better for the user considering that a 4 bay charger is needed to charge 3 cells at once, or to leave them in the camera, but when i look at the price range of EN-EL4a i don't think that this battery is a good long term choice. 18650 chargers and cells are available everywhere, but sadly there are also some cheap and insecure ones that should be avoided. Another option could be a custom battery holder that fits 3 or 4 18650 cells and has a charging circuit on board, which could be taken out of the camera an charged outside while he uses a different one, or the user can just replace the cells, but that would probably again go a bit against the approach to use open and available parts if you have to buy multiple battery holders, but might still be better than relying on a different proprietary battery format that you have no control over.

    It depends on the power consumption of the Chronos Camera. But as far as I can see, it uses maximum 5V inside with all the buck converter, so two 18650 cells should be enough to drive. There are Panasonic cells (NCR18650B) out there with 3400mAh capacity (as far as I can see they are the best in terms of capacity). One cell has 12.58Wh Energie storage and can stable output 6,2A (with two cells thats 45.88W max output). as I said, the case can slightly be modified to use just three plain 18650. With three, the max output would be 68.82W, I think thats more then enough for the camera (sadly I don't know the power consumption, maybe Dave can tell us that). But if you need more power, there are cells that are better suited for that purpose, like the Samsung 18650-30Q with a max output of 15A, or the LG 18650HG2 with 20A output (thats 222W with three cells!). There are so much options if you use just 18650 cells. But maybe there will be a 18650 Adapter? That would be a great addition :D And if that all didn't make the way in the final product, I for my self would build an external Batterypack with a Plug for the external Power Jack of the camera ;) As a friend of mine always say: "Hack the world!"

    Hey Say can one record longer views at a lower framerate/resolution? I'm asking because the if I got it right the sensor would even be capable of cropping down to 1280x1px which would make a really nice slitscan camera.

    Hi Tesla500, great work!!! I need one of these badly, about to pay, but: Could you please tell me if either version (color or mono) of your camera is able to photograph electric corona (like from Wimshurst machine), maybe near-uv? Thanks!

  • @tesla500

    @tesla500

    7 жыл бұрын

    It does have sensitivity to UV, the mono version especially without the IR filter, which also blocks UV. Light sensitivity would be the main issue, corona isn't that bright. I know it can see sparks just fine. I could test that out if you like. I'm not sure if my Van de Graaff generator will work well at the moment as it's quite moist out, but I'll try.

    tesla500 Wow, that was fast, that would be great! I just finished pledging the Black Friday Combo. If you don't know, you can get a great "brush" discharge (should look like a lavender football-shaped corona) by using a 1-cm conductive sphere connected to ground, at the distance from the VdG just a bit too far for the spark to occur or only occasional or partial spark (the corona should "hiss" pretty strongly). PS - The IR filter won't necessarily cause a problem, might even help my application. THANKS!

    How high speed cameras have a so high frame rate?!

    And why cost so much?!

  • @tesla500

    @tesla500

    They use special image sensors and other components that are designed to get high frame rate. These specialized components are made in low volumes so cost a lot, and this makes the camera somewhat expensive.

    +tesla500 I know that each frame is a open and close of a "door" that leave the light go thru a image sensor but, how can the "door" open and close so fast?!

  • @tesla500

    @tesla500

    7 жыл бұрын

    iosef Pindo Opening and closing the door quickly is easy, the hard part is getting people through the office that's on the other side of the door. Most sensors can open and close the shutter very fast, but that's just exposure. You now have the image on the pixels, you need to read it out before you can expose again. Special high-speed image sensors have many analog to digital converters that read out many pixels at once, for high speed.
