About On Cinema:
On Cinema is Adult Swim's finest authority on film, comparable to the great French film magazines in both content and depth. Host Tim Heidecker (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) and recurring guest Gregg Turkington illuminate which of the latest films are must-see's, which are unofficial sequels to unrelated films, and which aren't worth your time on a scale of one-to-five bags of popcorn. The coveted five bags of popcorn might not be given out easily, but that's kind of the point. See every episode of this enriching talk show now at AdultSwim.com.

I'm a total Christmas-head and this episode was like that last present under the tree. Just when you thought all of the fun there was to be had for the season was had, a pleasant surprise was hiding behind the base of the tree. You brush the dried pine needles off the top, peel back the bow and unwrap that last parcel of joy. It's not unlike that feeling you get when you see the last bit of movie come on after the credits have finished rolling. I give this episode 5 bags of popcorn and...5 little sheep that you'd probably see hanging around at the nativity scene.

Gregg's a bit of a renaissance man. He's married to his VHS collection the way some audiophiles are married to their record collections. I know I sound like one of those pretentious film collectors, but a VHS tape really does have a presence you won't find with other formats. It makes you feel like you're right there on set with the cast or in the movie itself. Pick up an old VCR and some tapes and you'll see what I mean.

VHS is an inferior format. I have never had to rewind a rental DVD because today's sophisticated DVD players actually rewind every disc for you before you take it out of the machine. But I suppose that's too much to ask for something with more of a "presence". VHS tapes have a presence, the same way dog turds have a presence on your carpet.
@dirtnastyish
9 жыл бұрын
MrBrassBalls I guess I'll always be old school. There are so many great titles to explore on VHS that I just haven't felt the need to throw down the dollars on a DVD player. I see them at the store and they just look so complicated and expensive. I can't help but to think, ya know, why drop $25 on a DVD player when I can get fifty VHS movies for the same money and enjoy them on a player I already have? I also love the coaxial cable, which I think a lot of people have forgotten about now. It just has to produce a better picture quality because it's a thicker cable.
@Animal_lives_matter
9 жыл бұрын
dirtnastyish Composite will get the job done, but RF coaxial is actually a thicker and more sturdier connection. I would recommend you purchase an RF modulator for your playback device , and be sure to select the UHF frequency for superior noise suppression and audio fidelity. However there is a drawback, you may need to press TV/Video on your playback device to cycle between television broadcasts and cassette, although this is a small price to pay given the advantages of the format.
