Christchurch 2000

Фильм және анимация

This is a video I took sometime in 2000 on one of my many visits back to Christchurch.
The footage was taken with a Sony TRV900, a high quality digital video camera for the time, though KZread may well destroy its quality.

Christchurch City at it's best, 10 years later a crumbling mess. I was last there 10 years previous. 32 yrs ago and it was beginning to look really nice like in this video. A real treasure, dont lose this video. thank you for posting it.

This brings back so many memories, I was a teenager in the late 80's to early 90's. This is the Christchurch I want to remember. Left NZ for work in 1999 and visited this year to reminisce and visit some of the old places but I left feeling sad, it's so sterile now, no-ones fault the buildings had to come down but I still miss the old Christchurch. I guess it will just have to live on in my memories. R.I.P

Wonderful video of Christchurch in 2000. Historic gem! Apart from the loss of many beautiful old Christchurch buildings, I prefer the emerging city today. My memories of Christchurch go back to the 1950s and 60s

Great to be reminded of what used to be. I am really struck by how busy the central city is; it makes sense that since the earthquakes, and losing most of the buildings, there is less reason for people to be there (despite the rebuilds, about two-thirds of the city is still either vacant or in ruins). It's been 12 years since the 'quakes, hopefully in another 12 we'll return to being as busy as it was 23 years ago!

Thankyou that took me back. It's nice to see the wisdom and the cathedral before the Earthquakes took it. Kinda made my day . ☺ and ❤ ♥ 💖 💕 😍

So many memories on every street in this video, I either partied, hung out with friends, worked, roamed late at night, drunk, snogged, ate, rode my bicycle etc on all of these streets in the CBD in 2000 in my early 20's, now Im 45 and its so sad when I go back to visit Chch and see how baron and dull it is now, a damn shame!

Good old days of Christchurch. Early 2000s were the best 2005-2008 👌🏽 Never will be the same.

So many memories of how the city was. Wish it was still like that, and not the mess it is now.

So sad that the city isn't like this anymore. It's sterile and not the Christchurch I grew up in and it's like they are trying to make it look like every other modern city with flash and fancy shops that no one wants to visit. Plus you have to pay for the parking which most of it is owned and run by overseas companies. I wish that the shops were like mid city market, hunters & collectors, cosmic before it got big, echo, and java. I've forgotten what the army surplus store was called but I use to hang out in those places for hours. Plus the baked potato guy, fountain souvlaki and the mini donut place as well as bk, maccas and KFC all in one spot so you always had somewhere to hang in after a night out. Or the cats pajamas was another spot to get a feed. So many good times. I'm not liking town these days the vibe has gone and it's definitely not user friendly.

The city now looks pretty shit tbh, doesn't even feel like a modern city rather dead tbh. Other cities like Auckland and Wellington have better central areas
