This song is so underappreciated. It was actually his 1st single as a solo artist and it got no attention. They never released the album it was on. I'd love to know what else was on it. I'm glad he's finally recognized as a major talent/legend.

Jamel_AKA_Jamal, I discovered chris Stapleton a couple years ago shortly after my husband lost his fight to kidney failure while getting a kidney transplant. His music has helped me through some of my roughest days. I will forever be a huge fan of his music. The man is amazing. Hope he releases some new music soon too.

I was listening to Chris' interview about this song's construction - he was told he needed at least one more song for that album, so he & pal Lee Thomas Miller churned up this one in short order. He'd spent a few years on Nashville's Music Row and probably found his songwriting collaborators during those years, and I'm sure there are a lot of cover-band musicians - especially since Vanderbilt U is in Nashville, along with other colleges. All of 'em lost some sweetheart along the way... wondering about good things gone bad. "A song about getting past the past..." What a line. And "Is it LA sunny or Memphis blue?"

He should be on everyone's go-to love song list to apologize for when you don't know what you did wrong or cannot find a good enough reason for your stupidity. This is a song that needed to be and had to be written and he nailed it.. there have been several times in my life after a break-up when I thought .. what is she listening to .. he is wonderin if she is still holding out for him or if she moved on .. if her heart is healed or still broken .. or has she found someone new. Incredible song .. Jamel just lil while back you were trying to reach 20k subscribers .. now you have a huge following and you deserve it .. always a pleasure to see what you are up to.

I'm sure by now that someone has already posted this, but I'm not into reading every single post...I come for the music & reaction. Chris is singing about a breakup with his girl. He's putting on their favorite song & listening to it over & over. He's asking her what is SHE listening to...a cover band, a sad song, a song about falling in love because she's met someone new & had moved on. He's wondering whether she's over him or is she still hurting like he is. Listen to it again. Btw, just wanted to say I'd love to dance with you...love watching you dancing to some Steely Dan/Doobie Brothers/ Skynyrd, etc. I can tell by the way you move that you can dance on that floor! It'd be a LOT of fun & good times! No offense/disrespect meant to any wife/girlfriend/Sig other...j/s, you got some moves!

It's an interesting first verse to me because it looks like the song he's listening to is about her, (whoever she is) because she's "in every line."and it takes him back in time.To good times and moments they've had together, perhaps. So now he's wondering, well,"What are you (she) listening to" Then he lists a whole lot of things,is it this or that? as if he's trying to find out what's on her mind Verse 1:I put that record on Girl you know what song And I let play again and again You're in every line Take me back in time Yeah, tonight I'm wondering What are you listening to... It's a wonderful thought- provoking song. Thanks

(not the best quality video). John Belushi did an impression of him on SNL, and they had Cocker come on so they could sing together : kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZadhxrWodNPahsY.html There's only a short SNL clip on KZread : kzread.info/dash/bejne/k46nsduIj8--dJs.html

I love your reviews, Man, but why does everybody miss the point of this song? He's listening to THEIR SONG, over and over again. SHE'S in every line. CHECK THE WORDS! He's heartbroken and trying to figure out what went wrong. He's wondering if she's doing the same or if she's already moving on, past the pain.
