I seldom watch when this is reacted to. To me, this is an example of a real man, his love and his strength. I hate that mental illness is so stigmatized, and the loved ones aren't well supported. They often don't understand what they are dealing with. Chris conveys the emotion, beautifully. BTW, real men show their emotions. Congrats on 15 years.

Bipolar. This is what loving someone with bipolar is like. My ex husband became an addict to deal with it and our daughter, who is now 17, also has it. It's the most heartbreaking thing in the world.

@Katie Tooker Yes. The awful swings from up to down and back again. Can leave tragedy in their wake. Blessed to have an understanding husband and very supportive parents. Many is the time that I have questioned why but slowly have the acceptance that God has a plan for everyone. And He does not give you more than you can handle.

I admire Chris Stapleton so much for using his music as a platform to shine a light on mental illness. There is a video about Chris, the director and the actor discussing the ideas behind this video. The label had been pressuring Chris to make a music video and he wanted it to have a purpose. He succeeded.

Jamel, thank you for this reaction. I must admit that country music is not my particular taste. But anything that Chris Stapleton releases I will listen to. I'm a 51 year old retired FF / Paramedic and I have seen this scene play out more than I care to remember. So this video brings out a lot of emotions and I tear up everytime I watch it. We are all connected through a common thread of our fellow human beings no matter our background. Empathy is a resource we should all strive to attain. And you showed how much it effected you. Thank you once again for the reaction (as hard as it is to watch). Be well my friend!

Thankfully we found a doctor where we live who took control and prescribed medication and set up psychologist appointments for my wife...who is much much better now. I too was able to find a support network and work on my own demons who to be honest almost took my life as I was in as darker place as you could find....but I am doing ok, one at a time but this time I have people to call on if I feel im slipping.......great reaction video, and I am now subbed to your channel.

The same goes for families with members serving in the military. Anyone willing to put their life on the line in their jobs to serve "community or country" DESERVES the highest respect ✊😁👍 It's the "uncertainty" of not knowing if the next job you go to may involve a family member or someone you're exceptionally close who is either close to death or actually dead is what would affect me the most 😰😰😰

Aj Ramirez ..... What's that saying...... "it's part of the job"??? I'd hate to be one of the 1st responders heading to a "job" where you don't have all the details & when you get there, you find out it's your "beloved other half" or even kids who are either being treated for serious injuries, loaded into an ambulance or you find them "under a sheet". That would DESTROY me, physically & emotionally 😰😰😰

This song gets me. It hits much too close to home for me too. I've been suffering from clinical depression for years, but over the past few months, my depression had taken a very ugly turn. I wasn't wanting to live anymore. I didn't have the guts to kill myself, but just hoped that I wouldn't wake up anymore. Every day was like that for me for months. I knew where I was headed, and in a small moment of clarity, rather than praying that the Lord would call me home, I prayed that he would help me, bring peace to my soul. I didn't think the Lord was listening, either that or just didn't care anymore. I didn't care about my life. Why should He? He did though. He's always there for me, no matter how much I tried to push him away. He brought my Dad back into my life. I hadn't seen my Dad since I was 5 years old. I'm 54 now, 49 years. 49 years I haven't seen my Dad. I have one picture of him and only one clear memory of him. Suddenly though, my Dad was there and a huge whole in my heart has been filled. Thank you, Lord. Without your intervention, I may not be here anymore.

I praise God that he gave my husband what he needed to love me enough to stay and help me through those horrible years of PTSD. When I see this video, all I can do is cry, and pray for those who are suffering the same as we did. I'm so glad I didn't take my life. There is so much to live for. Everything is temporary, depression and suicidal thoughts included, and change will come. If you are suffering from suicidal thoughts, we survive one moment at a time. I learned that death wasn't what I needed. Change was what I needed. I hope and pray that if this is you, you will get the help you need to stay. Get somewhere and be still. Call for help. The thoughts you have that your family is better off without you is a LIE. Please hold on. Please get help. There is only one YOU, and there is no one who can take your place.

this may be the single most important piece of Chris's artistic legacy so far. His ability to communicate important emotional truth is profound. That's what he does at ll tims, regardless of the story or the emotions. The man has true soul.

    * Hands Jamala stack of tissues* we are going to need them. I glad this video sheds light on Depression and what it does not only to the person fighting it, but to the family standing in their corner and helping them fight. Every now and then you just stop fighting and you end up with the end of this video. I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar manic depression with an anxiety disorder, and honestly if it wasn't for the man l beside me, would have been lost many times, he has been my rock for the past 20yrs and I know he'll continue to be my rock

My husband has bi-polar II and honestly, one of my biggest fears is not being able to help him anymore. Luckily the past few years have been really good. People truly don't understand what the people who have it or the people that love them go through. Sending much love to you and yours. I know the struggle. Together you can face everyday. ❤

I lived that life with my wife of 28 years. She was diagnosed with severe mental illness, Bipolar and some others. 1st time I have brought this up. I'ts a tough life to live because people don't really understand or care to understand mental illness. The stress it brings on family members. I was left alone to raise our 4 kids while she was either out partying or sleeping around or in a institution seeking help. The financial stress because medical insurance coverage is not that good for mental illness. There are many different types of mental illness diagnosis and it takes time to get proper treatment and prescriptions. And then the person has to take the meds regularly. But because of the mood swings, when they start feeling better they stop taking the meds. and things get worse.

I've spent the last 10 years living in this officers shoes, in the video. When a man dedicates his life to the one he truely loves, there are no barriers save the one's he builds himself. Thankfully, my wife has been growing slowly stronger over time and she knows, no matter what, if she needs me, I'll drop what ever I'm doing and rush to her side a fast as humanely possible. The true measure of a man is his dedication to his spouse and family. PEACE!!!!!

That's the first time I ever seen that video or heard that song. I don't listen to country. I didn't know it had changed in the fashion it has. The 90's was when I walked away from country music minus a few musicians, and bands that I grew up with. It was a decade of mostly my dog ran away, my wife left me, and my truck broke down. After seeing this it made me reflect on life. I've seen, and been through some things as a military veteran that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Sometimes that makes you feel like doing what she did. Then you have to find a way to fight those demons. That's what causes you to feel that way. It's demons. I sat by my wife's side for 3 1/2 weeks while they tried to figure out what was wrong with her. She tol me several times I could leave. However, when you've been with someone as long as we have 16 years now. You don't just throw in the towel, no matter what that person is going through. Thank you for this video. I had no choice after seeing your reaction but to subscribe and ring that bell. Thank you brotha.

"for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health" this is a sacred vow...a promise you make with god. That is the test and the testament. Today when so many marriages end in divorce I wonder if anyone takes that to heart...it is not to be entered into lightly. If you truly love someone, you will bear any burden, endure any hardship, sacrifice all that you have, all for the sake of that person even if that person cannot or will not respond in kind. I believe that is what he means by 'Fire away' ...Deep stuff.....

I Have lost People I Loved very dearly like this. You can Feel them falling away but you never know when they will try it again. I feel like i was too late to save them. I did once, was just in time, until one day she knew I was stopping by, But was already halfway to heaven. 3 days later she was gone. the other I was too late. The words "IF Only" Stay with you always. The Love you hold inside for them always. The Heartache Never leaves you. ~Prayers for all who have and are going through this. You Are Not Alone. ~ ~ We are all one, Cherish Each other well ~

As someone who suffers from a mental disorder like this one portrayed here, it is hard. I tend to avoid reactions to this song, because this one hits home. You speak the truth when you say let it out, and support each other always. Mental illness affects a huge number of people in this world, and often times it goes untreated. Either money, fear, or other factors play a role in it. Even in today's time, mental illness is viewed as something to not talk about. Thank you for sticking through this song.

Genuine reaction brother! This is one of the reasons why I stick with your channel. Because you're personality is always true to the emotion of whatever it is you're reacting to. So many others either constantly overreact or act goofy and silly when it's not only uncalled for or inappropriate. You do it right by keeping it real and true. Much respect! Keep up the good work! Peace!!☮
