@@kieron20069 Piper was a bigger draw than Jake Roberts and Mr. Perfect but Piper was also an attraction. Piper holding the intercontinental title felt wrong. Piper holding any title didn't feel right. He was more over than the title and him appearing was the attraction, not him holding the title. Mr. Perfect was great but he wasn't a top draw. People need to understand that. In the 80's, Perfect's title run would have been disastrous because he simply could not the level of Hogan or Savage during that boom. In the 90's, people wanted Bret Hart not Mr. Perfect and Perfect was beat up by that point. Jake Roberts was over but was an addict and he could not be trusted to carry the title.

Punk's whole argument is that it technically wasn't the main event and he's right in this respect. Yes, that match stole the show, hands down, no questions asked and it absolutely overshadowed both HHH/Lesnar and Rock/Cena that followed it, which is no small feat. Punk should have taken consolation in that. But at that point, Punk was already burned out bad and he probably still had hard feelings about not getting to main event WM 27 against Cena, with Miz getting the spot, even though Punk was clearly the best heel in the company. And he kinda does have a point there too and the WM 27 main event proved him right. Plus, he was bitter about HHH not putting him over in 2011 during Punk's rise to the top, in which case he again had a point. And in 2014, Punk was scheduled to fight HHH even though it's a match nobody really wanted to see and during a time when Batista/Orton was planned as the WM main event even though it was clear to anybody with minimum objectivity that it was supposed to be Daniel Bryan in the main event. So yes, Punk was a bit too demanding, but at the same time he had a point to his argument. The sad thing for Punk here is that if he had stayed, he probably would've gotten his desired WM main event by now. It eventually was going to happen, because WWE's new crop of stars in Reigns, Ambrose and Rollins wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire and I can totally see WWE somehow using Punk in the main event some time between WM 31 and now.

I wanted to cheer HHH but I felt conflicted cheering him against Jericho because their entire history prior, HHH had been a bully, absused his power etc at Jerichos expense. I always felt by the time it became clear it was going to be HHH vs Jericho, the fan reactions for both were so mixed, it just flattened the vibe of the fued. That's how I remember it. It's a shame that Jericho didn't get the chance to really run with his ideas. The guy sounds way more knowledgeable than the WWF creative team. If you listen to his ideas (with Goldberg for example) he had some outstanding angles and really refreshing storylines that would have got over huge, but every time he got sabotaged by some knucklehead (Goldberg, HHH) who couldn't grasp the concept of pro wrestling being entertainment and they wouldn't buy in. The angle with Jericho vs Goldberg (setting up for a big squash match on PPV) was brilliant, but Goldberg pulled out. The angle of a cheating Stephanie being with Jericho to go against HHH was also brilliant. It would have created way more heat for the match. It's a shame that some people in the business (Goldberg, HHH) are willing to sabotage their own matches, drawing power, and revenue, in order to preserve their on-screen character's illusion of invincibility.
