Hello Andrew - I finally took your advice (I always take your advice - seriously) and purchased the little blue Eclipse saw. OMG what a difference a saw makes - LOVE IT - Perfect ! ! !

I own 3 of those. The Concept one is my favorite but takes a bit of time to get use with that leaver. I also still use the cheap one. Very reliable. The german frame is a bit annoying because as you said is poke my hand and I think is also losing blade tension a bit as well. I really appreciated your review on Concept saw.

Thank you Andrew. As a stop gap, and because I own one, I used a joiners fret saw to pierce out a larger piece. The throat is about 18" 450mm, but it is very heavy.

Excellent review of saws. You did not, however, mention one of the reasons why I love my KC saw, which is that I don't have to push the handle into my chest in order to tension the blade!

What I like about the adjustable one for me is that I can tighten the saw blade after I've secured the ends when I'm changing blades. For me what I have found he has that my biggest problem when I was just starting out was it I would get some wobble in the blade and that obviously just cuts the life down pretty easily. With that adjustable Wingnut up there I find it allows me to chiton that blade and I get a much better cut with the last work and fewer breakages. i have a piercing saw frame longer than my arm lol, dont get to much use, but its for sure a god send to have when you do need a giant throat, used it to make basket hangers with rabbits on.

hi Berry, good tip on the adjustable Saw, my Saw 🙂, I am going to work in that, I like reusing my blades. The most benefit being adjustable is that I find it easeier to tension the blade to my preferred tensiion. About plastik handles, just tape them with the right tape, Handlebar, raquet grip or even make your own from thermoplastic.

@@Atthebench thank you for your quick answer. I also watched many of your other videos and I really like them. As I mentioned, they're clearly spoken, reasons given why something is done. As a physics teacher I really like that. I may have different questions later on. I wish you'd do some videos on creating different pattern effects on the surface of signet/box rings.

Thank you for this. I have two of those and a Green Lion. I simply have more trouble sawing than any. single. thing. I do. I have no idea why, but I can't seem to get it started and then I just break the blades. I need practice that's for sure!

Debbie Minter .....when I started matching saw/teeth to the metal gauge, and using frequent wax or lubricate, and practicing keeping my saw arm relaxed (and as Tim McCreigh says, keep my little finger sticking out) I can saw quite well. Also turn metal on curves, not saw. size

What helped me the most is the advice to keep the blade vertical. And be patient, don't get ahead of myself. I met a metal jewelry artist who passionately told me she LOVED sawing (and her beautiful work required sawing, sawing, sawing). I was like, "hm, really, you love sawing?" Well, maybe when I get better at it, I'll love it too?...

Why not just make a saw that is adjustable like the one you don't like, but put the adjustable side at the top end where it's not gouging into your hand? I never did get that.

Please could you do a video on how to rivet pieces together??

You can use a dapping block with a ball pein hammer

Turn the metal or the saw, or use both. 😊 I cut curve then turn the metal, then cut some curve turning the saw and then turn the metal. I'm not as talented or as skilled as you are. Practice I guess, huh?? Why did you not cut that corner bit off the side? It would give closer access once you snapped a blade. In fact, when you snapped the blade, I would have cut through the thin section on the side and traveled in from there. Brilliant though! You have skills, sir! Serious skills. Damn, you're fast! Your experience shows. That's a beautiful piece and you produced it so fast. Wow. Wish I could come work with and learn from you. Unfortunately I live way over here in California.

At least two teeth should fit inside the width of the sheet. You can go thinner from there, but not wider.

@Agate Queen Debbie No prob, glad to know it helped someone :D Some more uncalled for advice, in case someone finds it useful: Always lubricate your saw (bee's or candle wax work fine), try to use the whole length of the blade (it lets it cool as you move along), go slow and steady, and don't use too much pressure. For straight lines, you can angle the saw a little forward, but for curves you have to keep it straight. Good blades give you (noticeably) better accuracy and last longer (hold their edge better and break a little less), so as soon as you are not breaking them all the time, consider buying some brand. If you are having trouble cutting something, maybe you need to anneal the metal. Your workbench should be high for comfort, control and good sight. Working on a regular table is bad for your spine and your work.

Hi Andrew. After few months of using Knew Concept and as well a German regular frame I start to have an issue: I run out of German blades and I have a batch of Indian cheap blades. All sorts of sizes. My issue is that for a reason I do not understand my cut is not straight anymore. I use to have very straight cuts. I enjoy piercing silver sheet. The problem I face now with both Knew Concept and also the German frame is that for no reason my cut is always going right side. More and more. I keep the saw frame straight and I only apply little pressure. I don't rush. Vertical movement. Relax hand. And the cut is moving away from the mark line more and more. is like the blades are right side oriented. If I try to compensate and point the saw to the left, almost nothing happen. The piercing is keep going to right side. Is an angle of about 20-25 degree always to the right side. Do you think I tension too much these blades? With German ones (they were a bit longer) I did not had this issue. Only from time to time. Is very frustrating because I considered I have some experience in piercing. Is a long message. Sorry. If you find a little time for me I will really appreciate. I wish you a great week.

Blue Line It’s the cheap Indian blades. No doubt. Bin them and buy some decent Swiss or German blades. If the teeth aren’t equal on either side of the blade then the cut with wander.
