I was a trad mom despite the fact that people tried to pressure me into working outside the home. When you look back, you never regret being there for your children.

My mom was a stay-at-home mom and I was her right hand helper from the time I could stand on a chair at the stove and stir a pot. I even remember standing on the kitchen counter in my flannel nightgown, probably about 5 years-old, and Mom's spelling c-i-n-n-a-m-o-n to me so that I can bring it to her, because she was baking pies, cookies or HER Grandma's fruit cake and Old English plum pudding recipes for Christmas time... I don't ever remember hearing mom complain about her job at home. I can count on one hand how many times we got cold cereal (Wheaties or Cheerios only) for breakfast or TV dinners for dinner, because mom cooked everything from scratch. We canned everything from asparagus to watermelon rind (hot water bath). Mom sewed all of her day dresses & dresses, night gowns for my sister & I, pajamas, shorts & pants for the boys when we were younger. Don't get me wrong, my Mom did her part but we all had chores around the house. We served each other. I helped mom in the kitchen, right to the end, but we all had yard work chores, such as pulling weeds in the yard and gardening. Mowing the grass with our push mower. When Mom was in the kitchen & she didn't need our help, us kids were mopping, vacuuming & picking up after ourselves in the rest of the house.. Then we could go out & play. We "served" each other. For as long as i can remember, Mom collected & sold antiques too. We went to estate sales, auctions & flea markets on the weekends. As us kids were getting bigger, she started selling fresh baked pies & her scratch made chocolate and peanut butter fudge at the flea market Saturday for quick cash & she was looking to lease an old Fanny Farmer candy building to start up her own pie bakery when she was killed in a car accident that we were in. She packed a lot of learning into the 14 years that she was my Mom! Life is what you make. Stop looking to others for approval. Mom led a full life even as a stay-at-home mom.

When a couple decides to join in marriage, it is those two people who have to figure out how to make the relationship work, how to have each other's back, what their dreams are, and how to work towards those dreams to make them come true. Not every woman has it in her to stay at home; not every man has it in him to support a wife who would like to stay at home. Any which way, marriage is teamwork; without the team the dream doesn't work!

I was a stay at home mom. I homeschooled and took my kids on field trips to the zoo, sea world, and museums. On one occasion we were all together with the whole family and I was told by my sister in law that I didn't work. I informed her being a full time wife and mother was a fulltime job but with even greater rewards that a 9 to 5 job. Her and my brother had no kids,a maid and gardener. I was never envious of that. I love doing my own gardens and definitely my own laundry and housework. My kids had friends over and played hard when outside. I would not have changed a thing. I love how your kids help with weeding the garden, and study well in homeschooling. I also notice that they have imaginations. You are an awesome family and don't need to air dirty laundry about things.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

My stay at home mom experience is that some people look at us as lazy, just because we don’t have a 9-5. That in itself is ridiculous. I just don’t understand why people can’t do what they choose and not push it on others. The trend of every woman should go to work and if you have kids, just throw them in daycare. It’s so sad. Daycare was created for those single mothers who had a need for childcare. It wasn’t originally for ALL families. No one should be made to feel like a bad person because they choose to stay home and care for their families. If they can afford to do it and they choose it, that’s totally great.

I was what we affectionatly refered to as a hobby mom (only one child). My place of work was accepting of me having her with me early Sunday AM to do my work before we went to church. Now days I doubt this would be possible. It is not always wise to incorperate all these new regulations that restrict commin sense options for working parents.

The main reason I love both your channels, is because you keep it real and family friendly. I love how you show the Oops on your build channel and don't try to make everything perfect. Your monthly podcast, on that same channel, you answer questions openly and honestly. You have amazing topics on your second channel and again ou keep it real. I know, if any of my grandkids come into the room, I don't have to worry about language and them hearing something they shouldn't. I can put my phone down and listen to you guys. I also, love that you don't force your kids to be recorded, which is very apparent during your monthly podcasts. Love and prosperity to you and your family. 😊

You two are the best. The "trad-wife" over the top trend is an unhealthy way of viewing true traditional roles in the home. "Pleasantville" was a movie that really pointed out how unhealthy it is to sugar coat real family issues by trying to create an unrealistic home life

But didn’t Jeremy help you with the kids when he came home or was off-duty? That would not happen in a “trad” marriage. Melissa would be home-schooling in a dress, hose, heels, jewelry, perfect, hair and makeup plus cooking a perfect meal laid out on a perfectly set table! It is definitely not the same as a stay-at-home mom.

Both did all their chores and housekeeping in dresses my mother didn't even put on a pair of pants until she was 62 yrs old and not without a lot of coaxing and insisting. Always kept great home, traditional wife is a good thing. We should make it real and own it. I feel you have done a beautiful job in balancing all your tasks Melissa, and Jeremy is very true to the mans roll. You guys are an inspiration to what works with the traditional family. ❤❤❤

I was that person who married into a family and religion that preferred moms being at home but didn't frown on working moms. I loved the idea of being readily available at all times for my kids. HOWEVER, I should have pursued a marketable skill, education because I ended up being the STUCK in a relationship with a narcissistic control freak and although I believed in a patriarchal order in the home, I also believed in a team marriage. My ex was not just the head of the house, but cruel in his Reign (atleast where his wife was concerned). I had no where to go, no money and my kids were still young. STUCK! Have a back up plan.

Your family ethic shines bright, the rapport you both have with each other is amazing, never change who you are to fit the narratives being pushed by society as the secular world is just temporary, eternal salvation is the final destination, being a stay at home mom is not a curse its a choice and Melissa your doing an excellent job

I'm all about the trad wife, but not as the movement that is going on rn where everything is perfect and you look all put together and what not. I just want to make my husband and kids my main focus. I want to be with my kids and homeschool and feed my family good food and do what is pleasing to the Lord. Pretty basic and traditional. No one can have it all. We were definitely lied to about that.

I stayed home with my kids or had a job where I either was able to have my kids with me ( I was a nannny) or while they were in school. I LOVED being a mom and housewife. My mom was a stay at home mom and I thought my mom was the end all ,be all mom. She taught me to garden, sew, cook. Everything. I looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. For me if woman want to go to a career go for it. But I think women should let women be whoever God made them to be.

Your children are getting a good education on top of witnessing their parents working hard while still giving them the attention that they need and the property that you are continually improving and giving them fond memories that they will look back on and treasure all of their days. You are giving them a world of happiness that most rich kids do not have any hope of looking back on in years to come. Just keep doing what you feel is right because you are not harming them or anyone else and you are giving them things that money can't buy. Youz Guyz Rock! My Best to you and your entire family. She made the best donuts, including Bismarck’s, Jelly filled donuts. She had a garden and canned everything. At 9 yrs old that is when went to work from late summer to December for money for Christmas presents. We always had desserts for supper and evening snacks that was homemade. She worked very hard raising 3 kids and taking care of Dad.

Your comment about having a career (for lack of a better word) to fall back on was an important (almost unquestionable) expectation in our family. My sisters and I graduated high school in the 1960s and each of us chose a field for a career. All pre-marriage. We always felt our parents were ahead of their time. Note: my parents also trained for careers (they had great plans), unfortunately my Dad was needed on the farm, so they passed their dreams to us.

While I don’t have much of an opinion on these “influencers,” I -can- say: I was that girl who dropped out of college, got married to the wrong person for me, had kids, and divorced at 30. I am now in my 50’s. Since that time I have spent every moment trying to be as independent as possible and keeping emotional distance. This has resulted in alcoholism and depression. I really hope Neveah takes your advice to heart.

Great show. Jeremy and Melissa you speak volumes of wisdom. We got married in 1973, I was 19 and he was 24. I continued working until or fist child was born. Stayed home until she was 2 and went back to work. We Had baby #2 a few years later and I stayed home after that and we had 2 more children. I had a productive veg garden, did a lot of canning and cooking and kept a reasonable home. I loved it so much. When our youngest was 14, I went back full time and retired at age 66. Still work part time. No regrets. I always had a “Trad”mom heart ( no shame ) and I love being a wife, mom and keeping a beautiful home.

Hi guys thanks again for a very interesting conversation! After 16 years of working I chose to be a home with my children and be there as a volunteer at their school If you stayed home every one assumed you were available for everything! I also drove for car pool as well as made the soccer banners, and taught the kids at church! I was put down as a “soccer mom” by people who chose other paths! It was a lot of work but I would not have traded it for anything! I blossomed as much as my children did and grew in so many ways! We all have to decide what is best for our individual situations, but I would never say it was glamorous in any way! I can kind of relate to missing out on being present at birthdays with my kids because when video cameras (yes the big honking cameras) came out we all felt like we were bad parents if we didn’t catch everything our kids did on camera! I guess you both probably grew up with that! When I was a kid we had a few family photos and a few Polaroid pictures! Documenting everything is really less 50 years old! Most folks couldn’t afford it! It will be interesting in 10 years how society looks at the documentation of life in our country! Thanks for sharing!

I never , regretted staying home with my children. For the first 10 years you lay down a good foundation . It’s important to do so. I went back to nursing , only part-time . I took pride in my home , and family .

I follow a number of homesteading or homebuilding channels, and it is lovely to see the children as well, but I think the difference is that the focus is the homesteading/building, not the children, so it is not the same as pimping out your kids for content, and making that content a business you profit of. It's a tough one because I have seen a number of lovely family channels, but whenever I think of filming private family moment in my life of my kids etc.. purely for public consumption and maybe a bit of show boating and validation, it just leaves me feeling unsettled. So I don't tend to follow purely family channels for that reason. I love you guys and your family! And have been really enjoying the podcasts, I love how thoughtful and measured you are when approaching difficult topics. As a Christian myself it is lovely to hear more traditional views in a thoughtful way. Thanks guys.

I was born in 57 and my mom worked outside the house part of the time but homelife was horrible so I think working outside of home was an escape for her. Then we moved and my mom worked and my father didnt but tried creating a cab company in a small town and kept me home to take phone calls for trips. Then they both got jobs 45 minutes away and I had to get my younger brother and sister from school home I was a latch key kid. I had a lot of responcibiliy. I was a stay at home mom and homeschooled my son but got my daughter to school.I wouldnt want the 50's thing to showcase.

I was a working teacher mom, so in some ways, I did both. I hate that women seem to think they should judge others women. If you are happy with your choices, I’m happy for you. It’s just that simple! I wanted to add, I appreciate that you always show your children in a positive light. Obviously, they have good and bad moments, but you never put moments that they will be embarrassed by as an adult.

I truly appreciate this form of communicating. Countries which are far more progressive and family friendly have parental leave far longer than the US. They also have more programs to help families than the US. Having the option of staying home is a gift. Having good childcare available that is subsidized and stable and regulated is also a gift. We need both options. My last child was a precipitous delivery at home, there’s a huge difference. I didn’t have drugs with any of them. I loved her solitary birth, it was a great experience.

As being a driver I learn on being a better mom through classes on protecting the kids on your bus that spelled into my home raising!!! I could take care of home chores and be attended to my family life.

I really appreciate the fact that you both believe in the sanctity of your family first and foremost before KZread. It’s not just your children but all of your family and as far as the extended family goes I have to believe that they appreciate you respecting their privacy by not shoving a camera in their face. There can be room for both KZread and family when you make the choice to have a KZread channel without exploiting everyone that chooses to visit you. Thanks for being mature enough and respectful enough to understand that choosing to share your journey on social media does not mean everyone has to be on board.

Baby blues usually happens around day 3 post-partum…and only lasts a day or two…post partum depression usually happens at about 2 weeks post partum or so and can last for a long time and needs to be looked at immediately….I worked as an obstetrical nurse for 35 years and we stressed this to moms….I love this pod cast and have my opinions on the subject.. my mother was a stay at home mom from the 40’s-60’s…however my father although was the bread winner they shared housework, cooking and child rearing…I was unable to stay home but raised 2 daughters with help from family..It takes a village…😊🇨🇦❤️
