Thanks for having Joel Salatin on! 🥩🐓🌿🌱🎋🍎🍊🐄 I was one of those little girls whose mother made some of my prettiest dresses out of feed sack material. Tho 48:32 we grew our own grain we had to take it to the gristmill to grind into flour. Our chickens were free range, but she also bought some chicken feed & grit & she made sure she bought the same pattern of that totally woven material on those feed bags-enough to make a dress or skirts from! I had 8 older sisters & 4 older brothers. My mom could make the proverbial ‘silk purse out of a sow’s ear’. Now my great granddaughter, mother to 6, ages 3-16 -lives in Alaska. She & her husband preserve all kinds of food. They dehydrate, make jerky, can, smoke, freeze & preserve etc, many things from deer, moose, elk, bear & fish to local berries, etc. I passed on some of my gained knowledge from my own mom- to my daughter, & she passed it on to her daughter. Each of us added on our own learned experience, we learned to sew, quilt, make or alter our own clothes & used what was available to us wherever we lived. As an octogenarian I now live in a senior apartment building and most other people my age are surprised on how to ‘do’ any of those ‘home art’ skills ! I thank God my mother taught me most of those skills and encouraged me to experiment with alternative ways of doing things! Thanks, Souza’s!! 🥰

You’re so “out of touch”! Obviously you’ve been living “above par” for so long that you’re missing, working 2 jobs is just barely paying the bills!! There is NO “going on vacations OR eating at restaurants you can’t afford!” Honestly, WTF?! I have no credit card debt, car payments and am renting. I have no MONEY for vacations and or hobbies . I pressure can my food, when thing’s are on sale. I don’t know what cash crop you have, but I’m living on survival mode working full time on 1 income, living in this BIDEN economy!

I so enjoyed this conversation! I have many friends who see things are 'looking strange.' Many of us have tried finding acreages but are priced out or are taking care of elderly that would refuse to move. We do what we can in the city. Our gardens are growing, we are learning food preserving skills, and many have backyard chickens. We are hopeful that there are enough of us that some will survive.

I grew up on a homestead in Canada. My dad worked seasonally off the farm and my mom ran the homestead along with a small business. My youthful memories are mostly about growing up that way. I remember not being one of the popular kids with fancy clothes but to this day I am thankful for that experience. It has taught me to discern everything, be responsible and never compete with the neighbors. To this day I don't concern myself with fancy cars or clothes. The parking lot at my workplace has several shiny new trucks parked alongside my 07 plain jane economy car. These guys have truck payments as big as the remaining mortgage on my little homestead. I feel like I'm the odd man in the crowd until I find messages like this.

Thank you for this podcast! While we do grow a lot of our food I have slacked a bit with life’ s blingy things. This discussion made me realize why I started growing and canning my own food. I think I’m back on track now and very much enjoying life much more without the bling noise.

The reason for the huge decline in work ethics of young people and young adults is SOCIAL MEDIA,VIDEO GAMING, AND THIS ADMINISTRATION AND THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS lime Elizabeth Warren,Chuck Schumer,AOC AND THE SQUAD and others like Bill Gates who say a socialist government with give you a living wage of $1500 a month but uou will own nothing. That sane socialist government they want will own everything and control everything. Look at Venezuela north Korea Cuba and many other socialist regimes. Socialism doesn't work anywhere .and our moron democrats destroyed the young kids and adults minds telling them they don't have to work but will get free everything like college, pay check,Medicare,EBT CARDS,HOUSING, and on and on. That's not America. We work for what we have and we ha e what we want and pay for.

Love Joel, From a fellow Virginian too old to homestead now but love it. That begs the question, When are you going to grow your chicken operation now that Gabby is winding down? Will you focus.more on homestead ideas, activities when construction is complete?

Teens don't work anymore! My sons worked when they turned 15 and went to school and it taught them at a young age how to deal with a boss and people and how to manage their time! People think the more they have will make them happy and live way above their means. We told our kids "do you want it, or need it" there is a difference.

So grateful to your giving an HONORABLE PLATFORM to convey his philosophy as a SUCCESSFUL Homesteader Guru JOEL SALATIN for sharing his Genius HOMESTEAD ETHICS FOR UTILIZING EVERY ANIMAL-LAND RESOURCE. Salatin’s Revolutional Farm, Ranch Style Ethics are the TICKET TO AVOID MAFIA STYLE TACTICS into creating Homesteader Culture for saving this planet from Starvation. It is my hope that SALATIN & the Homesteader Culture in America unites to assist their UPCOMING GENERATION OF TEENS who share the Farm Lifestyle to CREATE A DYNAMIC STYLE OF TEACHING WITHOUT USING TOXIC CHEMICALS & SADISTIC ANIMAL PRACTICES. It is amazing how our NEW PIONEER HOMESTEADERS ARE NURTURING OUR CHILDREN INTO SUCCESSFUL, PRACTICAL FARMERS-RANCHERS. United, we the Health Oriented Organic Based Americans can “side track Dirty, Greedy Destructive Based governmentals” by voting them out of control. Keep it up JOEL SALATIN, our Current Farmer NATIONAL HERO! You bring HOPE TO OUR NEW GENERATION OF WHOLESOME FARMERS, DAIRYMEN, RANCHERS & HOMEMAKERS WHO PARTNER TO CREATE HEALTHY, AMAZING FARM LAND. 🎉Bravo Joel!

Yup....this one just hit the top of my list for your episodes. I can't tell you how timely this interview was for me. We saw the writing on the walls a long time ago and we finally purchased 35 acres of mountain property about 6 years ago. I have been following you guys on your GSL channel almost from the beginning and have learned so much. 3 years ago I started teaching myself how to grow food in a 10 x 10 grow tent in our basement. In August I will be moving onto our property full time into a small cab over camper and the very first project is to build a greenhouse. Then chickens. Then maybe a house. We are intent on being able to take care of ourselves should everything go south. I can't thank you enough for all of the lessons and training. Awesome episode!

Awesome video🎉❤I grew up on a farm my grandmother bought and we raised and grew all our own food. The only thing my grandma bought from the store was staples such as flour , salt /pepper and a few other things. We ate homemade bread, cakes, ice cream etc. had cows, chickens , sheep, goats , rabbits , ducks you name it. We also atedeer, squirrels , bear, wild birds never complained nor did we go hungry. I learned to can from the time I could walk. Now I have kids and grandkids who enjoy a garden , animals and respect where their food comes from and the hard labor it takes to be sustainable. They need to bring agriculture back and the basics into our kids lives. I agree these generations are losing the basics and technology is not going to help you in the real times of need❤God Bless
