An Honest Discussion About the Jason Aldean “Try That In a Small Town” Controversy

In this episode of GSL UNCUT Melissa and Jeremy discuss the controversy surrounding Jason Aldean and his newly released music video for the song "Try That In a Small Town". Also discussed are the differences between small towns vs metropolitan cities within the US, and the topics of race and politics as it relates to said issues.

The great thing is, I sense a little recognition that the diverseness is finding a little middle ground. It was a riot. I boycott Seattle and Portland and now Bud (it's a dud, I don't drink Bud), but I would love to live east of the mountains. I have to note: you guys are taking on a chore. Remember the old Disney movie Pinocchio? No, you don't. There was a scene where kids got to go wild. That's what the riots are about. Just nitwit kids, who may grow up to be better, but that little bit stays in your head and doesn't help your psych. Stupid people raise/have stupid children. No cure for that. Be smart parents even if it cut's into t.v. time Nope; if a youong dumb kid rips down the flag on your house (just a story) and sets it on fire, you don't punch him/her in the face. You humiliate them by being a real person and believe me, they are going to get sobered up fast and embarrassed if they are a potentially normal kid who did 'something dumb' in their youth. Other things need punching. C'mon Jeremy, you're a minority? If Einstein showed up he would be too. you're not black, that's what we are talking about. Am I rasised, of course, we all are. You feed the wolf you want to live with. See, this is going to be work. I could be wrong.

Humans discriminate and always have done. Not that this is right in the least, but it’s a fact. Religion, Race, Looks,Status, no matter what, people will take sides. But I have to say Americans are just about the most extreme in their views of other beings. Nothing to be proud of!

@@brianlawliss1080Unfortunately, a criminal is running for president and I chose to stay independent or UNaffiliated - because truth be told, neither democrats nor republicans are great but the one who says “I’ve done nothing wrong” (no criminal is going to admit wrong-doing, very seldom done), will NOT win this one over. I was very liberal in my early 20s as I see people as people and everyone has a right to live, healthfully, but as I got older, I’ve become more conservative because I started thinking only of myself (I have to survive now that I’ve aged - but I still hope that if I need a government program to help me SURVIVE - do NOT take my SS away - retirement - I paid into that program and I want it back now, so no republican can rightfully take Social Security Benefits away. If I were to suddenly become homeless I would hope those programs I paid taxes for the last 48 years would be available to ME as well. Sorry to be a burden on your shoulders, but I feel I’ve earned my SS benefits and no Republican has the right to take those away for me, and don’t even get me started on innocent babies being born who did not ask to be born. We need to be more compassionate to those less fortunate than us. Glad you had the opportunity for riches but most of us don’t. Get your criminal to step down and I might consider changing my affiliation, but that one that’s running right now who almost screwed his own meal ticket (his father) ain’t going to be it for me. Have a great day. I follow God’s law, love thy neighbor, not screw thy neighbor (ask Trump if he ever really paid anyone who’s worked for him). God does not approve of January 6 and anything that resembles it. I do believe in stand your ground by the way; I will protect my home and family with any means necessary. And above all, you don’t call military (especially fighting military) “losers”.

Melissa, you’re exactly correct if anybody thinks that it is racist because when they listen to it, they think of different ethnicities then they need to check themselves, because that is profiling and racism on their behalf. By the way, I love this channel I look forward to it and the topics that you guys speak about keep up the good work.

I get what you all are saying. I am married to a retired military man so we moved a lot during our time in the military. One of our moves was to a small town in south Texas. People were so friendly, You would be out driving and cars drove by and it was a wave as you were driving down a country road. I was shopping in town and I remember on one occasion the owner invited me in. In the back of the shop she had two rocking chairs and she poured me a cup of tea so we could get acquainted. I loved that place. Many years ago do not know if time has changed it. We were stationed in California in a larger city and I took my dog to a vet. The vet said to me "You are not from here, are you? I had manners and used formal salutations. I told him I was from Texas and he said Well, you don't have to Sir me." To which I promptly replied "Yes Sir I do because that is how my Momma raised me, It is considered a sign of respect." in that city in California, I would pass people on the street and say hello. They would look at me like I was going to mug them lol. They didn't make eye contact. So yes there is definitely a big difference. Got to love country folks.

I started following you guys several years ago. (GoodSimpleLiving) I'm so glad I did. I feel like I'm trapped in a city of lunatics. I live in Buffalo New York and it's no longer the city I "grew up" in. Shootings every night, drugs are everywhere, and homelessness is right outside my childhood home. It's terrible here now. Most of my friends here are Firefighters, or Police Officers, or First Responders in one way or another. I'm 53 years old, and that's just what we did. We followed in our fathers' footsteps. I joined the military and came back home to a neighborhood I don't recognize. South Buffalo was my 'stomping ground' as a teen, and now I can't even go there.

Well said butt...Putting God back in peoples lives won’t stop racism. Some of the biggest racist in the country are Black preachers. They preach hate for Whites from the pulpit while the congregation shouts “Amen” from the pews. A few well known examples being, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, the Reverend Al Sharpton. As long as there are these types of God fearing church leaders proclaiming the love of God and the hate for Whites, racism will continue. Racism is a decease of the heart.

Again you’ve grown my respect for you both. This has quickly become my favorite channel and I’m not really into podcasts. I’ve lived in small town Texas for 53 years where on any given night there are only two sheriffs deputies to cover a county of 900 square miles. Racism isn’t a topic (yes in Texas). These small communities look out for our neighbors, protect until law enforcement shows up (then turns it over). You get hurt, your community helps, your equipment breaks down and neighbors show up with their own tractors free of charge to take over. You come home to fresh garden vegetables hanging on your gate and no name attached. I’m so tired of how this country is divided and taught evil. Love your neighbors, respect strangers, stop and say hello or ask if need help. Life in small town is so different. Sure act up in caution because we will band together, but we are taught by God to care for one another. It just comes natural. Pray for our Country and this song is golden!

His point is that these actions would NOT be ignored by the police or the public in small towns, as they are allowed to happen in big city’s like Seattle, Portland, Chicago, etc. groups like BLM and ANTIFA exist only because they are allowed to spread they’re HATE.

Uprising and promotion of evil and making it acceptable is exactly what's unfolding world wide. Also the deliberate agenda to shut anyone who has an opposing view or belief. I agree with you, allowing this and not fighting back is a huge problem. We have to stand up for our own rights, opinions and beliefs. If we don't stand up for ourselves, who will. As a 23 year LEO(now retired) I agree with your assessment of this situation 100%. Although I was in a conservative community the threats from outsiders was very real during the 2020 protests. We had protests and the pro LE group was much larger than the anti- LE group. I felt that if the outsiders tried anything the pro-LE group was going to handle things themselves(which was also a challenge and worry). But their presence alone helped keep the outsiders in check. Thanks again for your insight.

Thank you for communicating these ideas. Too many people are so ignorant about these ideas! Great to get the conversation going on this. People can’t even seem to judge what is right and wrong. Also they don’t try to find the real facts. They go with anything they hear. No judgement. Speaking up is so great.

I faithfully watch your Good Simple Living program, and will continue, but I really have enjoyed your conversations on GSL uncut! This video especially has hit home. I live in the NOVA (northern Virginia 10 fully populated miles from DC) and communted for 15 yrs into DC via car/train and I can count on one hand the times I saw a familiar face in all those 45 min train rides to and from DC. My first day here (I was raised and lived most of my life in NE and IA) and said good morning to the person who sat down next to me on the train was told "we don't talk to people on the train, we don't want to be bothered". I was stunned! I am 75 yrs old, and fell on the sidewalk right in front of the building where my office was (one block from the White House) and at least 20 people walked by me and only one person stopped 1/2 block passed me, turned around and helped me get up. That would NEVER happen in a small town!

Hi guys, love this podcast. I’m 81 and I’ve seen a lot of changes in our country over the years. There is so much hatred and separation among people. I’m honestly saddened to see what direction our country has taken. It appears just about anything can be used to cause riots that destroy our cities and cause injuries to many. I’m truly frightened that things are going to continue to deteriorate. It’s impossible to find just one thing to complain about as things in every direction and on every level have deteriorated and things are getting worse daily.

9:30 TOTALLY 100% agree with you guys… my daughter stopped wearing her Uniform to work as she didn’t know what someone might do if they seen her patch on her arm… run her off the road ect… I stopped wearing PD or Sheriff Dept shirts while even mowing the yard because of a couple of sketchy situations… I am born and raised in a small town NW of the Twin Cities in MN… BLM “threatened” to bring the riots to us… then they realized what the % of gun ownership is in these parts… that disappeared immediately… in my point of view Jason’s video is not only accurate, is was proven true time and time again…. Great video!

Heartbreaking. I’m 100% in agreement with your comments. My father moved to Washington state when I was a teenager and I made many trips there. Seattle was beautiful and so different from the many cities I had seen. I used to say Seattle was my favorite city. I haven’t been there for many years and don’t plan to return. It is so obvious that liberal policies are destroying everything that used to be good.

I usually do not take the time to listen to most podcasts; my time is valuable. Yet, this podcast's name drew my attention. I am from a small farm town in Nevada. As a young girl, all I knew is everyone helped one another and shared information for the good. I concur with what your message presented. Keep them going with rich content, I will watch. My husband and I are senior citizens, we have begun the move to Flagstaff, AZ. Our adult children have assisted us in this challenged time. A few weeks ago on a Friday late afternoon, my husband and I rented a U-Haul to begin the first heavy haul. It was only us, our neighbors waved, said hello, relayed it's too hot to move or ignored. Remember these are people who have known we are moving, yet no one helped, I could have cried. We pushed heavy tool boxes, large boxes ect. Yes, we had items to help push or pull. I was amazed that no one offered, but when they asked for help in the past, we helped or offered help if we saw they needed help. I would never allow this to harden my heart, I don't want to change. This is how I was raised as a young girl. I know my husband needs the help and I help as much as I can. I heard the other day from a neighbor, she will miss the goodies and Christmas basket. My heart sunk, tears filled my eyes, so it really didn't mean a thing. Yet, that was from my heart and family. I look forward to the move for my husband's job and the community. Thank you.

I watched a city that I loved go from one of the most beautiful cities in the US, if not the world, and turn into a vision of a third world war zone in less than 5 years. I had to "retire" a year and a half ago because I wouldn't comply with the vax mandate, and I've just watched it get worse with no bottom in sight. Thank you for standing up and saying the hard but true words that few around here will speak. Here's hoping they don't de-monitize you for speaking out. God bless you both!

I called them out: made them aware that Temu was Chinese owned. They were very defensive of their action because Temu gave them a few cheap gifts for them to review.. They didn't seem to have a clue about what they are doing to their own country.I unsubscribed from their channel. We all have to stand strong and support other Americans who are like-minded. Great topic to talk about. I have been a city boy all my life. I am now 70 years old. My wife and I took a vacation to New York four years ago. While walking around Manhattan we came across three people just laying on the sidewalk and everyone just walked right over them. The biggest problem is there is no room in jails to arrest them and not enough places for rehabilitation for all the drug addicted people. It is very sad. Love your podcast.

Thank you so much for such a great and heart felt discussion. We took our children to San Francisco about 25 years ago, we went downtown and not know what was between us and the bus station we needed to get to. Homeless, tenta, filth, human excrement, and drug use everywhere. We were concerned about our children and safety. The drug use was rampant, we have not gone back and never will. The area has alot of beautiful things to do and see, but not until things change there! The future for California doesn't look good. Just sad.... Thank you to the both of you.

I grew up in Western PA in a town of around 15,000 and it was awesome.Lost 30 years of my life I'll never get back living in Cleveland, moved here nine years ago. Never felt more at ease in my adult life. I KNOW my neighbors and I KNOW my neighbors have my back, the sense of community and RESPONSIBILITY is incredible.
