Oh thanks for saying this. I've read about 1/5 of the book and I think I'm quitting because Theo is freaking disgusting. First it's a whole chapter where he is telling about the friendship he used to have with the future dictator when they were young, but it wasn't really friendship because neither of them cared. Then he complains about the whole apocalypse situation, but concludes that it's mostly okay cause he doesn't care. Then we get a story about his family and turns out he didn't love his mother because she didn't properly grieve his father when he died of cancer; but it's not that there is any hint he felt anything about his dad's death himself. Then we learn that actually Theo unintentionally killed his little daughter !!!! but it's fine, he doesn't care too much. He did love her, he says (which I don't buy at this point), but he could have loved her more had she been prettier !!!! Then right after his daughter's death he proceeds to describing how they moved to a new house where he liked architecture better. Like. Really. Then his old teacher asks if they could live together so he and his sick wife don't have to die alone, and guess what, Theo doesn't care. Idk, I'm maybe not that interested in spending more time with Theo. Worldbuilding is great tho 😅

Yes, Theo is kind of the worst... He's very robotic, but an interesting choice for our "guide" to this world, don't you think? If you can, try continue reading, the plot is good and after a while it's not so Theo-focused anymore. But I can understand if you can't stand him so much that you can read about him anymore...

Yeah I’m pretty sure that it is dystopian because the movie depicts it as a dystopian so

I know, it was a joke... I don't like kids so for me not having any around would be a good thing, and when I think of all the bad things humans did to this planet their extinction might not be such a bad thing... But obviously, it's dystopian, I'm just a cynical person.
