Same lol. My only theory is that this segment is a huge meta-joke because everyone expected him to talk about the Mueller report or something. This feels like one of those "And now, This" segments except stretched into a main story. That's the only guess I have. I mean, the story's vaguely interesting, but it's not only unimportant, it's aggressively unimportant. The video doesn't even focus on the impact on the city - the city's reaction is just mentioned tangentially. This feels like something that might interest his younger writers but I can't really imagine Oliver's actual opinions about this are as strong as he's making them out to be in the video, given that he's a 41 year old British man. If it's not a meta-joke maybe HBO just wanted them to come up with a story that would go viral and attract attention to the show across the world. Otherwise... I'm just confused. Maybe it's just because I'm out of touch.

I fell down the rabbit hole of KZread back to this video. And now why am I crying like a baby?! Has 2021 been so hard that the story of an otter mascot making friends with different an international otter mascot makes me feel things again?!!

Chijohn’s story was the most wholesome thing I’ve ever seen. John Oliver is the best man on this damn planet for making this mascot.

I like that Chiijohn has the look of an old 30's cartoon mascot, or even the old anime inspired by them to go with Shinjo's more modern look.
