John Oliver Fears For Humanity While Eating Spicy Wings | Hot Ones

Ойын-сауық

John Oliver is the Peabody Award-winning host of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, a show that's won more than two dozen Emmys since premiering in 2014. Catch new episodes Sunday nights on HBO at 11:00 ET, with past episodes canonized rather conveniently right here on KZread. But how is he with spicy food? Find out as the former Daily Show correspondent discusses the problems with cable news, his love for the Muppets, and his iconic (in his own mind) free kick in Soweto.

Cool John Oliver story. I met him at JFK airport. Told him I really liked his work. He seemed to genuinely appreciate it and said "Oh cheers thank you". Shook his hand and went on my way. Turns out we were on the same flight to the Bahamas. As I walked past him and his family on the plane he recognized me, smiled and waved. Thought that was so cool. I didn't want to come across as a weird fan so I was not planning on saying anything to him again. But at the baggage claim he went out of his way to tell me and my girlfriend "have a great trip guys!". Such a class act and completely down to earth. I don't agree with all his stances but will be a life-long fan anyways.

I think interacting with people in an airport really shows you who they are as a person. More often then not they just want to get to the destination and be done with travelling, hardly anybody is in a great mood because everybody just wants to be at their destination. So the fact that he was super chill and polite like that speaks volumes to me.

A friend and I met him a couple times in NYC, more than a decade ago. We met him once in Union Square and once outside of his comedy show. Celebrity status aside, it was pretty cool talking to him as a person. Smart and funny, and down to earth like you said.

His "stances" are non-existent. Let's say His Family stood to suffer from any of the things he reported on. Would he make a video pleading with the decision-makers in charge to please tyrannize us slightly less or try & get immediate solutions? Thinking "things *should* be better" when you have the capacity to _make_ them better isn't a stance. In fact it's a great illustration of avoiding taking one. He's waiting for "someone" to "do something" which no one suffering immediate consequences has the luxury of doing.

John Oliver is part of my sustained hope and faith in humanity. The more I see and hear from him, the more I love him and appreciate having his voice in this world. So often he both makes me face the horrific truth of where we are at as a society, while simultaneously giving me hope that there is strength and compassion still working hard in this world. Loved watching this- hot ones is always a lot of fun, but this interview in particular was beautiful. also? HOW did he get through this without any drinks to the end?!

I was honestly surprised by how well he did. This somehow was simultaneously both far less unhinged and far less interview-like and more like a regular conversation than any other Hot Ones I've seen before. (I'm one of those people who don't watch every one, though.)

Never watched the show before, but the guest is one of my favourites and the viewing was well worth it, for both the premise of the show itself and for the view of John beyond his regular format.

His answer to the last question was perfection - and pertinent to every day in which we're faced with doom and gloom about so many aspects of this modern life - you only need to seek out those working to make any kind of difference, big or small, to know that there are people that aren't giving up on this experiment called Earth.

What a great interview with a great guy. Enjoyed every bit of this, especially his reaction to Da Bomb. When I was a kid, a few of my friends tried it, just a drop or so each--an immediately regrettable decision 😂

You can say all you want about how Sean is a good interviewer because he does his research. It’s clear as day that his research is a product of his dedication to really bond with the guest. It’s one thing to do deep research as a gag or a gimic. It’s a completely new class of act when Sean does it from the bottom of his heart. Sure he probably does it for the views at the end of the day, but keep up the genuine acts of kindness, Sean.
