I give my hard molting chickens this recipe once a day. 1 small scrambled egg 1tsp each yogurt, crushed egg shell, rolled oats A small drizzle honey A pinch of a good multi vitamin ground up Infant D3 liquid (1/2 dropper) Scramble egg and crushed egg shell together put in bowl and add remaining ingredients. And yes I feed each bird 1 tbs cat chow complete. Once a day. I have been rehabbing baby birds for years and cat chow will keep them alive. It is okay to use a small bit of cat chow. I have one this year who dropped 3/4 of her feathers over night and immediately got deficient. I brought her in and started this treatment along with keeping her warm, quiet and resting. Lots of water and her crumble. This works for me when it gets really bad. I hope it helps someone else.

I agree with you. Let chickens be chickens. No light in the winter. I feel they have a longer happier life. Good information. Thanks Susan NW Georgia

I’m so thankful for this video! I’ve been so worried about my chickens because they’re going through their first full molt. They’re about 17 months old. I knew molting was normal and that egg laying would decrease, but we haven’t had any eggs in almost a month now where they used to average 2 a day (out of 3 hens). And the one who’s on the top of the pecking order has been just awful to the others, especially the one just below her. I was worried because the rooster and head hen have been so mean to her that she’s started sleeping on top of the coop (still in the enclosed run that’s very safe) and not on the roosting bar in the coop with the others. She’s the only one who can fly well enough to get up there, so I think she’s doing that so they can’t harass her! This gives me hope that things will get back to normal before it gets too cold. We’ve probably still got 3-4 weeks before our first freeze. Thanks for your great video!

My chickens are 24 weeks and haven’t laid yet. I do have to clean up feathers constantly and it’s super hot here in FL. Could that be the reason they haven’t laid yet?

24 weeks is on the later end of laying but not uncommon. They will lay when they are ready :)

@@purelychickens I just saw the gleam of her feathers, and my barnivelter is lovely like that in the sunlight. Of my newest mixed girls my golden laced whyndote is officially the first to lay.
