I'm going to get a brooder plate once my chicks are closer to hatching. You've given me great reasons to not use a heat lamp.

I brought home some of my chicks last week. Six of my 7 granddaughters are making sure they get plenty of love! Because of Avian flu outbreaks in Nebraska, chick supply is very limited. We have to sign up for specific breeds that are available, then pick up when the orders are filled by the hatchery. Also number of chicks and breeds purchased, name address and phone # are kept on file so if there is an outbreak the chickens can be traced. Unfortunately there was a flock destroyed about 10 miles from my home last year by state officials. We are right in the middle of the Central flyway migration route so there are thousands upon thousands of wild birds in our area.

First time chicken family, and we are so excited! We are wondering though, we have a ton of wild turkey on our property. What do we need to be concerned with as far as potential illnesses being passed to our chickens, or the turkeys attacking?

hi I'm getting my chicks soon, I have a couple questions: is it okay to keep them inside if you cannot provide a safe outdoor space yet until they are ready to go into the coop, i dont have a garage? Also if you do have an open brooder, is there a alternative way to keep them safe from jumping out? How do I keep bugs out of the brooder?

I’ve been seeing people say this brooder plate is way too hot. Have you noticed this? I got the same one and I’m nervous to use it.

How much do chicks sleep when you first bring them home?

How long will you keep them in that rabbit cage? Until they are ready to go out to the coop, or will you transition them into a larger container before the coop?

Since there are 8 of them, they need to go to a bigger container. This would be good for 3-5 until grow out

My chicks are coming in a couple of weeks apart. Can I put the newer chicks in with the older ones or will they be picked on?

I don’t have an answer, but just wanted to say I am so sorry about your baby chicks. Make sure you let Hoover know. They may have a guarantee on them for a couple days.

Do you pick the baby chicks up and hold them close to your body do bond? Or do you just let them climb up and down your arm and to let them learn they can trust you? Total noob here. We won’t be getting chicks for another year or two 😭 but I can’t wait so I am learning everything I can now 😊 my children will want to hold them close to their body and not just let them climb up and down their arms though 😬

That room is going to be covered in dander floor to ceiling. You should keep them in a shed or garage or something.

If you watched the video I talked about how I usually do but it’s cold here right now. They go out by week 2. This bedding also is dust free so no worries there
