Anybody notice that Gambale starts taking a solo at 5:30 when he's not supposed to? He starts soloing, and then Chick Corea plays the melody over him, and Gambale and Patitucci look up at 5:36. At 5:50, Gambale and Patitucci are laughing about it, and Marienthal gives Gambale the ol' eyebrow raise at 5:57. I never noticed it the first time around. Funny stuff! Even the masters can make mistakes!

Sax player kills it! Bass player shines! Drummer syncopation and chops - wow! I have always respected how Chick allowed his individual band players to grow and expand their talents - letting them take the center stage from time to time. Its the characteristic of a mature player and TEAM player. Additionally, it takes so much pressure off of Chick to have to lead every night. While Chick is gone, his contributions to music lives on!

Hoo man shivers of pure joy from that audience callback. Nailed every tasty note he slung at them... had to be a houseful of musicians lol. Really wanted him to keep upping the stakes with increasingly bonkers Chick runs till they tripped, but oh well 😄 You enriched my life and musicianship like you'll never know and left an indelible impression, maestro. You are with us always. Rest now 🙏

And the cast= NO WORDS NECESSARY, OUTSTANDING AND BRILLIANT PLAYERS, ALL OF THEM EQUALLY. Rest In Peace Chick Corea, we will all miss you, and thank you for sharing your music with this world, you made it a much brighter and better place. Your legacy lives on until the end of time. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🎼🎶🎵🎹❤️🎵🎶🎼

FYI: "Spain" was composed by Joaquin Rodrigo in 1939 with a long history of instrumental adaptations until keyboard genius Chick Corea wrote the jazz fusion lyrics in 1971 and released the album "Light As A Feather" with Corea (Rhodes electric piano), Flora Purim (vocals and percussion), Stanley Clarke (bass), Airto Moreira (drums), and Joe Farrell (flute), and made it a jazz standard by 1973. "Spain" was recorded in several versions, by Corea himself as well as by other artists, including a flamenco version by Paco de Lucia, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin in the 1980s, and a progressive bluegrass version by Bela Fleck in 1979. Corea also performed it as a duo with Japanese pianist Hiromi Uehara. Corea thereafter corroborated with Artie Marten and Al Jarreau to rewrite the song, and Jarreau made this popular during his world tour in an album titled "I Can Recall" in 1980. The phenomenal ensemble Manhattan Transfer also did their own version that captured the attention of those who were not really into jazz. The Light as a Feather version of Spain received two Grammy nominations, for Best Instrumental Arrangement and for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Group. In 2001, Corea was awarded the Best Instrumental Arrangement Grammy for "Spain for Sextet and Orchestra".

@@julesdevera8359 With all due respect, Concierto de Aranjuez for classical guitar was composed by Rodrigo in 1939. Jazz artists such as Miles Davis and Chick Corea have adapted parts of that Concierto in different works in reflections of Spain. But Rodrigo didn't compose such a piece AFAIK, it is the Concierto he created. It is an awesome piece BTW and all 3 movements are a joy and an homage to Spain in their own right.

Legend - sounds of my youth - energizer of my better evenings out; who didn't play this man's music in clubs from NO, LA to the largest cities of TX, and Albuq., NM.
