I was lucky to attend a 5-day workshop with Bobby McFerrin and his then-vocal group, Voicestra, at the Omega Institute about a dozen years ago. It was like being in the presence of a not-yet-ascended master whose prayers were all musical vocalizations, which we were led to participate in. There were professional musicians from all over the world who'd flown in for it; some couldn't even speak English, but they understood the music. I'm a total amateur with no professional aspirations, but I've always wanted to be freer about singing than I had been, so I participated with gusto and mostly on-pitch. Five of the best days of my life. And twice a day, we sang w/Bobby - and yes, one of the songs we worked on was Autumn Leaves. But it never, ever sounded like this!

(which is the whole point and goal) on a monk tune, "mysterio" i think, just opened my mouth and did some very not interesting scatting and Bobby goes, "uh,,just go ahead, man" and then cut me off... oh well...:p
