Jayy, they were still setting up the drums when the song began. Yep, trumpet, sax and trombone. The lead guitar player, Terry Kath (RIP) is so underrated, he never got the respect he should have. Peter Cetera's vocal was amazing as well.

I love Terry and wish we could have had him around longer. He's underrated because he's forgotten to many but not me. Didn't Hendrix go back stage at one of their shows and tell everyone Terry was better than himself?

@@MRCATL3 Totally agree about Terry Kath. Very underrated, and yeah, the story goes that Jimi said Kath was his favorite lead guitarist. I saw Chicago with my best friend in the summer of 1972 in Rochester, NY just as "Saturday in the Park" was a big hit. Great show. Great band (esp before Kath died WAY too young).
No auto tuning , no backing tracks, just real talent and real musicians.

I saw Chicago with Terry Kath 8 times. Seeing Terry play was a mystical experience beyond words. When he left the world too soon, it changed the dynamic of the band. This performance here is just unbelievable. Look at trumpeter Lee Loughnane's face in amazement while he's soloing.

I love seeing other people appreciate this band and their musicianship. Very few bands can play live like this - very few.
Top notch musicians every one of them! Terry Kath is the most underrated/overlooked/under appreciated guitarist in pop/rock history. There, I said it.
Thanks so much for this one.. Jimmy Hendrix (THE GOAT) thought Terry Kath was the best guitarist he'd heard and now we all know why. RIP Terry!
This one performance alone puts Terry Kath in the annals of guitar greats. Imagine being in the audience that night.
The whole Tanglewood concert is magnificent, a tribute to a fantastic band filled with incredible musicians. Someone should remaster THIS video and audio and put it back on the big screen, nationwide. THIS is a concert, folks. "Only theatres who can turn it up to '11' are allowed to show this film."

The best guitarist I've ever seen. I saw him 8 times and it was a spiritual experience. That guitar needed a cigarette after this solo.
" I cant believe this is live", pauses right before possibly THE greatest live guitar solo ever.
If your out of breadth, you entitled. This live performance is among the most important film in the history of rock. Terry Kath, the guitarist, is an excellent singer too. He has a voice like ray charles.
Terry's daughter was almost 2 when Terry died. She did a film about him called "The Terry Kath Experience". It is a daughters search for the father she never knew. and in it, she is trying to find the guitar that people had been looking for, for decades. (not the one in this concert, but you can see it in the Rockin New Years Eve Chicago video. The one with the stickers not the bass he played in Wishing You Were Here.) The day he died, he was booked into a recording studio with a new 4 piece band. That just added to the speculation of what he could have done with his own band. RIP 🙏
They played instruments, they had soul, they were outstanding!!!
Make Me Smile is another excellent Chicago song.

Terry Kath lives! This version has one of the greatest guitar solos ever. What a tragic and senseless loss. Jimi Hendrix once said that Kath was a better guitar player. He was the heart and soul of the band. After his death, they became a lamish pop band, nothing like this. I am impressed that you found this gem.
I’m with you! I have seen this a thousand times and love it every time! RIP Terry Kath
The Legend of Terry Kath
So glad you cared for this version. Terry was a gift, for far too short of time.
Just one of the greatest live performances ever recorded. Terry was phenomenal....RIP.
Trombone, and you're not dumb! This band was the band that all the rock musicians would go see play at Famous clubs. They were so amazing and they had different sounds throughout the years, followed by different lead singers. That being said it did not matter, because they just rocked no matter what. I was lucky to catch them about four years ago and meet them. They still sound flawless!
The Brass. Omg. Trombone Baby!
...and about 9 months later, the world was full of baby stratocasters. RIP Terry K.
Love this song! I had this album back in the early 70's.....I am now 67 yrs. old.
Terry...effin...Kath...RIP Brother and thank you for all the great licks.
Let me tell you, I saw them live in concert in the 1980s, and it was the best live concert I have EVER seen! I love the horn section and they are TERRIFIC! Love watching all your reaction videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊😊
I have a special place in my METAL HEART for CHICAGO
In the beginning of this the drums were still being set up. They were contracted to start on time. Terry was riffing while the drums were still getting set-up. They smoothly rolled into “25 or 6 to 4”.
Originally named "Chicago Transit Authority" before they shortened the band name to just "Chicago". Amazing guitar and horns! Deep rabbit hole with all this band's hits!

Yes, the actual Chicago Transit Authority, the company that manages the city of Chicago's public transportation system, threatened a lawsuit against the band if they didn't change their name. That's why their first album is Chicago Transit Authority, and all the rest are Chicago.
OH WOW ! Fantastic ! You did the Tanglewood concert when Terry Kath (Guitar) was on FIRE ! He was also on FIRE in "Ballet For A girl In Bachannon" in the Tanglewood concert. He was also the Lead singer for that one. Just be sure you get the whole 14 minutes and not one of the cut-outs. Chicago never recorded a song called "Make me Smile" or "Colour My World". They are both 2 minute cut-outs from "Ballet" & they both hit the top of the charts. The Girls really loved the "Colour My World" section.
Saw them live in 1970. They blew the roof off the joint! 😎
Tanglewood is an amazingly beautiful performance venue in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. I live about 40 minutes from there and it's a favorite summer destination to hear some fantastic artists perform!
I was watching a documentary, and one of the horn players said Jimi Hendrix was watching Terry Kath playing a solo, from the side of the stage, and he said "Man, I wish I could play like that!"... 😳
They were just amazing 😍. All the band was on. And terry just shredded the guitar. He was the best ever
Love this group!!! Guitarist is out of this World!
Best band back in the day!
Awesome awesome group! The brass section may have been a stand out or even Cetera on vocals, but for me, it will always be Terry Kath. Underrated by far, underappreciated by so many. He was a beast. Thx Jayy, this is a classic. ❤👍🏽

Top 5 guitar solo of all time, only exceeded by 4 others he did.
The greatest live guitar solo ever.
Not only is it "Live" but it was 50 years ago. I had been playing drums at this time for about three years, and almost quit because I was bored. Then I heard Chicago...still playing to this day.
"Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon" live (Tanglewood 1970) is a must! It's 13+ minutes of AMAZING!! The 7 tracks together in "The Ballet" are: "Make Me Smile" (Lead vocals by Terry Kath) "So Much to Say, So Much to Give" (Lead vocals by Robert Lamm) "Anxiety's Moment" (Instrumental) "West Virginia Fantasies" (Instrumental) "Colour My World" (Vocals by Terry Kath) "To Be Free" (Instrumental) "Now More Than Ever" (Lead vocals by Terry Kath)

Make me smile is one of their best songs.
CHICaGO! One of my favorite old school bands
You should enjoy the entire Tanglewood concert. Chicago like all the bands from the 60s and 70s performed everything with minimal studio effects so live versions were essentially identical to what you got on the record. Trombone, trumpet, sax, keyboard, drums, bass and Terry Kath. All 7 are immensely talented but Terry played rhythm and lead guitar simultaneously. His early death was truly the beginning of the end of Chicago as a rock band and the transition into a ballad band.
One of Chicago’s best songs.
The Old Bands were the Best Bands ! Their is nothing today that can compare with these Pros !
I live near Tanglewood. Great shows there, this was back in the day. Chicago never disappoints!
What I love about these reactions to pure Talent without sound booths and effect's, Is that Smile and dancing in the chair.x no manufactured boy band.. Musicians with Feelings and Guts! Great channel. Stay Strong Decent People. Cheer's 🇬🇧
Terry AND that guitar needed a cigarette after that solo!
This concert is Rock music history 🎸🎶
OMG Chicago reminds me of my childhood!! They were the greatest!!
Rock N Roll at it's very best. "CHICAGO".... Great Reaction
The guitarist and KZread teacher Rick Beato once stated that Terry Kath was almost a forgotten figure in guitar music, but that nobody ever forgets THIS video. The first time I saw it, I admit I was more than slightly drunk. So I went back and watched it sober, because I was convinced I must have made some of it up in my head. Great band, great vocals, still not given their due.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! Terry Kath is my hero and I love it when I get to watch people experience probably one of the best guitar solos ever played. There are a few documentaries on him, super talented guy and his daughter is rad to. Huge deal about his guitars and what happened to them.

More more!! I know the songs, but can always hear it again. 60s 70s with Terry Kath a part of their band only for me. Totally complete pkg. Love brass and add Terry Kath. Top 3 bands in my Era. Stopped listening after Terry passed away. Band became more bubble gum like songs. They lost their heart of t h e group.
Oh they are SO much better today!!! Consummate professionals! We saw them play with Earth Wind and Fire in concert at the Hollywood Bowl and they brought the house down!!!
Saw Chicago in Pittsburgh WAY back. KILLER concert! When the concert was over, I was waiting for the crowd to disperse...all I could smell was their amplifiers...that's how hot they were that night.
Jayy, This Video takes place when Chicago was still named the Chicago Transit Authority, and due to a threatened legal case by the actual City of Chicago’s Transit Authority…They were a very hard driving ROCK Band, with Terry Kath, as Lead Guitarist, as well as, one of their Three talented lead singers…After Kath’s accidental death, the band changed direction and became more of a pop love song band with numerous Top 40 hit songs…
I grew up listening to this song along with so many others from this era and can't get myself away from the past. I haven't been able to comment on anything for the past month because I have been in the hospital. I am finally recovering from what put me in there. So now I am back in full force listening to what the younger generation is listening to. Thank you for listening to this amazing group. Also Terry Kath could play the SHIT out of a guitar RIP. My brother and I played the crap out of the album until we couldn't play it anymore.
Hi Ms. Jayy, A good song from a great band.. ♠W.G.

Greatest guitarist ever
Chicago is the goat . Thanks for the memories.
When first hearing Terry Kath play, Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying that he thought Terry Kath played guitar better than he did. It was later on reported that Jimi Hendrix also called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.”
You have just experienced what what going through the mind of Jimi Hendrix when he saw them playing at the Whiskey A Go-Go and Jimi told the band "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs and a guitar player that's better than me!"
Jimi Hendrix thought Terry was better than himself, being a humble man. He gave Terry the credit & loved his style. He said it appeared Terry was playing.....backwards. Terry was a Big man & Strat shredder!!! And he Sang, that's difficult to do. He truly was an ACE AHEAD OF HIS TIME! The camera should have zoomed in closer. Thanks Jayy 🥰💯
Oh, such a great song!! Since you seem to dig old Chicago, I humbly suggest their song "Beginnings," a lovely and awesome track!! 💜
