Chester Bennington singing Adele! "Rolling In The Deep" Vocal ANALYSIS!
I have been loving my journey with Chester Bennington and Linkin Park, but you all called it on this one. This cover song of Adele's by Chester is absolutely magnificent (have I mentioned that I adore Adele?) Chester truly gets to show off his wings in this one, and I'm absolutely here for it!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Linkin Park covering Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" for the first time.

Chester had a lot of dynamic vocals and was a powerhouse, but I hardly think he's one of the best vocalists. He has bad pitch in every live video I have watched and in this video he had breath control issues. I felt it was due to unfamiliarity with the song since I haven't seen it in other live performances, but it still highlights that he is not a vocal god that some people think he is. Wonderful singer and fun to listen to. Not one of the best vocalists of his time.

It was so emotional. Like he wasn't singing it for the audience, that was purely for him and for whatever healing he needed in that moment. Man, still brings me to tears thinking about him being gone. I am watching this at work and crying. Good thing the people I work with know I am an extremely emotional being and they are used to it.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Chester was the friend we all wish we knew but had through his music. The kind of friend that recognised the struggles we were going through and would have done anything to help because he could relate. If he was missing a lung or his vocal cords he would still have got up and given the best and most sincere performance because that what he done and how he knew to reach people.
God called on Chester and he said, "Do you want the voice of an Angel or a Demon?" Chester replied, "yes please"
There's something really moving for me about an entire crowd singing with any artist. It makes me super emotional.
Actually, Adele does that a lot. In the most emotional moments of her songs she likes to be every so slightly off the pitch, and we all know that she can do it. The result is, at least in my mind, that it helps to make the listener understand the struggle. The pain is so much to bear. And that makes it so much easier to feel the music.

It didn't help that the audience singing along with him was pitchy too. The two clashing is more than likely what she was hearing.
This truly shows Chester's vast range of emotion and technique. Such a truly sad loss to music and humanity!! Chester was one of a kind!!
Once I saw this “Screams like a devil. Sings like an angel", and this is absolutely true. He was the most powerful singer of my generation.
I really miss him. He will never know how much he helped me.
So goood! And they only did it once before at a Summit (Fan event) that weekend and only just learned the song. Chester is even reading the lyrics of the last verse a lot on a sheet down below. They just went for it on the fly.... And it made up for such an incredible moment.
Chester was always eloquently inelegant and it makes me smile when I hear something like this. It was tragic when we lost him, and he is missed.
For a long time I stopped listening to Linkin Park because I thought I had "outgrown" them. Which in a way is true - I had grown out of the way that I related to their music. Now that I'm older and have matured out of the me that thought one just passes on their favorite bands at certain stages of life I've really come to appreciate that raw, soul-baring quality of Chester's singing. "Cathartic" is absolutely the word for it.

You can feel the emotion in Chester more than ever especially towards the end of the song. The other band members even mentioned sometime later that during rehearsals Chester couldn’t even get through half the song multiple tries up until very close to the show, but still managed to absolutely kill it on stage.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction. I miss Chester's music soo much. Amazing talent and a devastating loss to his loved ones and also to everyone who lived his music with him. I pray you are at peace now, Chester Bennington. God bless.
Thankyou for doing this one! This truly highlights Chester’s amazing talent, and also, when people think of metal/hard rock fans they think Neanderthals etc, but here you have a heavy band covering Adele and the crowd singing right along and cheering and loving every falsetto and just truly appreciating Chester’s range/power/control - true music lovers know and appreciate this sorta stuff and in turn, we love and appreciate you breaking it down and watching the joy you get from doing so!

Linkin Park is such a huge part of my childhood. Hybrid Theory was one of the first albums I owned, I used to listen to that album all the time while I was going to the cabin with my family. 2 hour drive and I was always asking my parents to play and repeat In The End and Sonne by Rammstein. I was too young to know english but I did my best to sing along! Looking forward to this reaction. Chester had a lot of emotion in his singing, which is understandable considering who he was as a person. P.S. If you get the chance, please check out Means End - Nox Aurumque!!! The band disbanded after their first album and never got any real attention so this won't be a "popular" request. But I'm quite certain both you and the audience will love it! It's basically "prog metal takes on opera", a collaboration of sorts with Eric Whitacre who composed the original Nox Aurumque.
I've watched a lot of your vocal analysis videos and this is probably the best in my view. Critiquing Chester's voice provides great insight, however in this video I really enjoyed how you delved more into his art and how his expression of the song stands apart with how he can pour his emotions out through his delivery of the lyrics (or as you said it "something is being torn from inside of him and is exiting through his mouth"). This is a great analysis of what Chester delivered in his live performances and one of the many elements of what made him such a great artist. Thank you.
Rip Chester, he had so much pain and darkness from being constantly bothered by the voices in his head. Mental illness is such a hard thing to deal with, but he pushed through and left something behind to be remembered.
The first live performance of One More Light after the passing of Chris Cornell is beautiful and heart wrenching. There’s a scream in there that you can see come the deepest pain in Chester.
I'm a big fan of "When they come for me" by LP - you get a lot of different musical roles and vocal style, get to hear both Mike and Chester doing their stuff, and it's over 6 minutes to boot :)

One of my fav songs right now...
Im so glad you did this song! Thank you for your analysis.
I stumbled upon your channel last year and absolutely love your appreciation of different genres of music. You somehow make me feel like I'm showing a friend my favorite songs.
There are clips out there of this cover done backstage with just Mike on an acoustic guitar and Chester unplugged! Miss Chester ❤️🥺
I've been binging your videos for the last few days. I love your appreciation for all genres of music and the singers within them, but also you stop to point out how good the other musicians are, your reactions and emotions to what you hear in the music as a whole is so wholesome. With that being said, I know there's no vocals to analyse, but I'd love to see your reaction so Polyphia, something like Playing God
Thank you thank you thank you for analyzing this one on behalf of myself and others!! I'll admit i had a mini excited freak out when I saw this video pop up lol, and I think it's the first time I've seen Elizabeth forget to pause, because Chester's performance is just absoultly mesmerizing lol. Love the channel, and love the positivity, it really brightens everyone's days, and we all need that bit of joy sometimes, thank you so much!!
Cannot recommend Crawling from the One More Light tour enough, just him and a new piano again surrounded by fans and was filmed only a few weeks before his passing, always makes me cry!
beyond happy you're diving more into LP - I believe I'm not the only one feeling this way when I say you appreciating his voice and him as a person (his vulnerability on stage, his pain) is helping us (fans) heal❤ because even after 5 years hearing One more light or Roads untraveled live (this one was sang only by Mike, they never managed to sing it live together..) still makes me cry.. So THANK YOU for appreciating him❤ And some song suggestions: My December, One more light, Pushing me away (piano version live), Leave out all the rest + from Grey Daze Sometimes and Saturation (Strange love)

My December and Leave Out All The Rest are some seriously deep tracks. Love them.
I truly enjoyed this - the performance, and the analysis.... I learned things ! Thank you for covering the cover... truly beautiful delivery of a great song... hard to sing song, too!
Love Chester! RIP
I know it's because of my Bias towards LP, but I think he was one of the most talented singers of his era. Not because of range or vocal talent, though he had it in spades, it's because he poured so much emotion into things and its heart breaking so much more now. He died but his voice echos forever. #MakeChesterProud
Chester, one of the best voices of all times. RIP.
There are some performances by artists I love which simply tear me apart, and this is one of those. Chester and Linkin Park got me through some hard times. I love that you said this performance is such a gift, because this is how I've always felt, not just about this song but, about all of their music. RIP Chester. You are missed deeply.
everytime i watch anything of chester singing live, the emotion he manages to portray is captivating. Always has me close to tears everytime!
You definitely need to check out their performance of QWERTY. It’s unbelievable

Finally someone who ask for Qwerty live in Japan!!
I'm almost 40 now and there has been 2 celebrity deaths that really effected me hard.... and Chester was one of them. It took me a long time to start listening to Linkin Park again after his death, cause hearing him would just make me cry.

Chester absolutely had an amazing voice. Especially in this song. One of a kind
Thank you for bringing to light many performances from singers/bands that truly capture their brilliance (whether it is their song, or a cover, like this analysis). I still find your enthusiasm for such a broad array of music as refreshing and catchy. Be well and thank you, again...
Chester's entire career was raw with emotion he was one of the only honest artists who valued his privacy and he suffered
Check out Alice in Chains "Love, Hate, Love" Live at The Moore. Its a black and white video. I was named after Layne and he has guided me through live with his art. This is my favorite song by AIC and I think you will love it too. The only way to describe it is hauntingly beautiful. ❤
