Chess Hustler Said He Was a ”Grandmaster”…

Ойындар

I played against a chess hustler in Washington Square who said that he was a grandmaster. I offered to buy him a chess clock if he won! Hope you enjoy the video :)

The humility and grace required to let an obviously inferior player win not once, but twice, is truly admirable. He proves once again why he is one of the most humble Grandmasters alive.

Love the fact that your response (up until now at least) just has a couple of likes. Not that I dislike it, quite the opposite (I love it) you nailed it. It's just the fact that it also seems to prove that the s.k. smart bunch who loves to see videos like this one (self-proclaimed smart chess player), aint particularly bright when it comes down to it. Your comment should have had ten times as many likes if they understood it. (Instead, most people seem to take your comment literally.) Irony only works with smart people if you use it in text, right?!😉 Good social experiment weeding out GM in here too, mate.😃👍

This is so stupid. The titles aren’t for us. The titles are for the normies. I‘m here for the chess, but I by started with videos like this. Chess hustler is pretty much a term for the KZread search. The same way you search for Minecraft survival if you want to see that, you search for chess hustler if you want some over the board chess in public places. The chess community is probably one with the lowest amount of native English chess speakers. I personally never had a concept of a hustler, especially not a negative one. All the hustlers Anna or also Andrea and Alex play are sweet people who have fun playing chess. I think most non native speakers associate the term chess hustler that way and not like a person who tricks people scamming their money or shit. I don’t get why you are upset for this sweet old man, fighting his fights for him in the internet. It ain’t that deep guys, it’s a KZread title

@@chrisiver8506 I went up against an old 87 year old NM about a month ago who said he hadn't even played casually for 10 years, and haven't been to a tournament in 50 years. I'm 1300 or so on chesscom and I beat him all 3 games we played. His openings were still good, he was very tricky with all the traps. I had to play super carefully and take my time, it always felt like I was getting crushed.... until he dropped a piece, which happened every game. Point being, he was nowhere near NM strength at all, but I could see that he was probably really good in the past.

Maybe she really needed that queen swap and felt the need to force him to accept it, even at the cost of a knight and rook (which could've been captured)? She did mate him shortly after so I'm guessing it's that, but just seems strange to me. I'm a beginner though

@@scottbrown411 Close - she played strong, and when he made a mistake, she punished it. The move where he ended up exchanging his rook for a knight was very weak, but even before that she picked up a pawn, which would have likely been decisive anyway. I suspect this guy would beat 9,999 out of every 10,000 Americans who know the rules of chess, and possibly more like 99,999 out of every 100,000. It wasn't a complete walkover, and she'd have been in serious danger of losing, if she played weak on purpose. Incidentally, weaker players often play very aggressively. My old chess tutor used to say to my mom, "What are you feeding these boys?" implying that we were too aggressive, which was true.
