Thank you for the feedback! I will be posting more videos very soon, so please continue to stay tuned. Unfortunately for George (checkercycle), his wife passed away and he has not made any new videos since. I did hear a possibility that he might be making more videos again soon, but I am not entirely sure. His videos are fantastic, and I really enjoy them, too!

Is there a variation for 9-14, 22-17, 5-9, 17-13? If so, do you have a video explaining this variation?

Hello azcheckers, can you explain the bronx express at 1:30, and why white can't move from 9 to 13 at minute 5:20, please ? Thank you!

Great questions! The Bronx Express is sound, but having a piece trapped in the doghole early on for white is not ideal. White cannot move 24-20 at 5:20, as red will cover up with 8-11, and later white will run out of moves.

Thanks! If white goes 24-20, then red can suffocate the white position by moving 8-11 next.

​@@nunorodrigues9781 Yes, waiting moves and the importance of tempo (all falling under the timing component of checkers) are topics I plan to discuss in detail in future videos. In general, I do think "waiting" moves are an advanced and difficult concept to grasp, as they are usually subtle and appear at first glance to not have any bearing in a position. Stay tuned!

Why is it a better strategy to attack the double corner rather than the single corner?

Attack with the single corner and protect your double corner is a very good checkers strategy. Probably the best explanation for attacking your opponent's double corner is because it's more vulnerable and easier to crown.

azcheckers I grew up playing checkers with my grandfather. As teenager my brother and I learned chess. After the searching for Bobby Fischer movie was released in ‘92 I only played chess. I spent nearly 3 decades playing chess and ignoring checkers. What a shame! I play chess weekly at a local club. In the past I’ve dabbled in chess tournaments and coached scholastic chess clubs. A little over year ago I began to rediscover this great game of checkers. I’m really terrible at it, but I’m learning and improving. Your channel, the checker cycle channel and Richard Pask’s book has really helped. Thank you keep making those videos. Keep promoting this great game of checkers.

​@@BigLewBBQ Fantastic! My story is almost the complete opposite. I grew up playing chess (I really enjoyed Searching for Bobby Fischer), but then was introduced to checkers as an early teenager, and have been exclusively playing it for more than two decades now. There are not as many platforms to coach or mentor checkers (KZread is great, though!), as it is not as popular or widespread as chess. There are still a good number of tournaments, and I'd recommend checking one out if you are close to an event ( www.nccheckers.org/NCCA/Tournament%20Dates%202020.htm ). I do appreciate your kind words, and I am hopeful checker cycle will return to creating new videos. You certainly cannot go wrong with Richard Pask's literature, either! If you would like to see a specific topic or opening, or just have any questions, I'd be more than happy to cover it in future videos! Thank you again!

azcheckers i don’t know what my chess rating now is but I am very comfortable playing the 1600-1800 fellas at my chess club. I’m pretty sure my checker rating would be well below that I feel like I would be under 1000, the App I play checkers on gives me a 1400 ELO. I think it is bogus. But I’m much better at checkers than I was last year and in proving. I live less than an hours drive from Vidor, TX. I think there are checker tournaments there every so often. I might be better at straight checkers if I would quit dabbling with pool checkers every now and then please keep posting checker material it is helpful.

@@BigLewBBQ Thank you! Official checkers ratings use a unique formula to calculate (not ELO), but I do know that a chess rating of 1600-1800 means you are a good player! I do recommend the website playok.com (I believe ELO is used there), and you can really get an idea of your skill level in checkers there. They also offer chess and pool checkers as well (which I agree, is fun to play)! The person who runs the tournaments in Vidor is a great promoter of the game, and I'd be happy to connect you two if you'd like!

@@IamHamzaAthar He stopped producing videos after his wife passed away. He has received encouraging words from both the checkers and KZread communities, and I am hopeful he will return to making more videos in the future.

The double corner is the name of an opening (9-14) but it also pertains to your entire right hand of the board.

The 'why' part is why I am debating making some vids. Checkers is such a great game and gets no love.

I agree -- and diving deeper into the "why" is something I am trying to do in my videos. The issue is there are so many exceptions to basic principles in this great game. There are general sound and good strategies which I highlight in my videos, but sometimes there can be many layers of the "why" that differ from situation to situation.

You seem to be doing the best job out of all the videos I have seen. I am only a master level player, you seem to know quite a bit more than I do for sure. You must be a GM, no? I can tell you one thing that bothers me about instructional checkers videos is that in comparison to chess, it seems primitive. In chess they have nice programs where they can save variations and tactics off of the main trunk games, arrows and highlights to help emphasize the moves. Since you seem so well versed in checkers knowledge, is there any program like chessbase or scid that exists for checkers? Also why the hell is checkerboard only on PC? I cannot find an engine for Android for the life of me. Anyways, keep up the excellent content. What site do you play on? I just started the other day on flyordie, but I'm not too impressed. When I learned checkers 25 years ago, Yahoo.com checkers and pogo.com checkers had tons of action. I was so used to 30 seconds a move that these 10 minute full game time limits are kind of killing me. Took me over 50 games to get a master rating.

I appreciate the feedback, thank you! You are a master level player? Congrats! There are not many masters in the game today, and even fewer grandmasters, unfortunately. Officially, I hold the title of Master in the ACF, and I'm a member of the U.S. International team. Most of the tournaments this year have been canceled or postponed, which has been disappointing, but also understandable. I also recently started playing on flyordie.com, and while it's a decent site, playok.com is where you can find other professionals. I think you will enjoy that site quite a bit, and I'd love to hear your feedback and see what you think of the level of competition there. There are several programs available (Nemesis, Kingsrow, WCC) that are comparable to chessbase. For Android, I have had some requests to try out some of the programs available, but I just haven't had the time. I've watched several chess channels, and I agree, they are more professionally well done, and I've explored making those types of videos on my channel. It is on my roadmap, but what is more important to me is building the foundation and teaching rudimentary strategy and tactics using the viewpoint so it's like you're sitting across from me. It is a tough balance -- I have been told even my beginner videos are too advanced. I am working to improve my channel and videos, and it's really all coming from feedback from viewers like you.

All the apps I keep finding on Android are just play apps mainly, and they are not that great. I had little difficulty beating the GM and Champion levels on them. None of them seemed to be like checkerboard though where I could study and learn. Claiming your beginner videos are too advanced is nonsense. They are pretty well done and thorough. Acfcheckers website and checkerboard are what turned me into a monster. I think it is now USAcheckers. Just going over first position, second position, etc has definitely netted me a few wins, and Payne's draw has saved me a loss or two. Checkerboard is really what helped me get very good very quickly. (That and just tons of play). I will join that site and hope to see you on there. From what I can tell you have much to teach me OTB. You have so much knowledge in obscure lines.
